  • “We wouldn’t talk about diversity and inclusion unless it was about difference, yet what’s happened to it is… diversity has become a tool of conformity, the imposition of rules.” Simon Fanshawe OBE in conversation with Eileen Gallagher OBE.

    One thing that really irks me at work, is gay people being described as 'queer'. I'm only 35 and even I had this used as a slur against me, but apparently we are all part of the 'queer community' now.

      same from me, a homosexual man in America. I will not stand it and *correct* anyone who uses it around me (and always with a simpering smile thinking they're being oh so "inclusive" and "diverse"). I'm NOT a queer, and I'm NOT in your creepy little pronoun club.

      technically gay means happy..perhaps homosexual is more correct....queer used to be the 1960's term

      @@nathancarr3916 Have you ever been beaten to the ground and kicked with the word “queer” spat in your face. It was the word used in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and so far in the 20s by homophobic bullies. What’s your point?

    This was an enjoyable video. Certainly respect for the diversity of all employees in companies is essential.
    In the past, I thought that a flimsy argument was made that having a diverse employee population would improve the work process and the business. Somehow, our customers would appreciate our company more if we expressed open support for our diverse workplace, and choose to do more business with us.
    I guess there are some workplaces where this might be true. I had a 40 year career in worldwide chemicals manufacturing and marketing. I guarantee you that our customers (other chemical companies and manufacturing companies) couldn't care less if we got a Stonewall Diversity rating of 100 or 0. All they wanted was a secure supply at a good price.

    Can we have a speaker who doesn't get an anti-Brexit dig in? Believe it or not, there is a diversity of opinion among homosexuals on the merits of the right-wing, racist, pro-transgenderism EU.

    • @80PercentScottish
      @80PercentScottish Před rokem +2

      I agree. I voted for Brexit and not because I hate immigrants (my longest relationship was with a Hungarian). I have many reasons for my vote and I find it annoying that gay people are expected to have voted Remain.

      @@80PercentScottish Glad I am not alone! I think it is part of a more general problem that the LGB Alliance needs to take the idea that it's an "alliance" to its logical extent and consciously exercise considerable sensitivity. Another example was Bev Jackson's jibe (when introducing speakers) against the two-party system. Same thing - some of us may crave a switch to a multi-party, coalition-based system and some of us may be strongly against such a change for many reasons. Nothing about our political views on other issues can be assumed; if they are, it can "get our backs up".

      @@gladiator652004 yes and ultimately a lot of the basis for the LGB Alliance is not pigeon holing us along with the other letters, so it should be extended into each of us having our own belief systems and political affiliations.

    That’s fascinating that Simon appeared on a panel with Jacqui Gavin, I am male exclusionary for women’s spaces but I blogged on Jacqui and they were quite charming and nuanced in their thinking. Not to say that they would agree with or approve of my stance which is necessarily defensive of single sex spaces.

      LGB people have our own issues but we work with straight people who fight for sex based rights & safeguarding for children & vulnerable people. If you expect everyone to have identical views to you on everything, then I'm afraid you're in for a shock. Many LGB are more likely to try to build bridges than gender critical who seem to want argue, we are more used to old school transsexuality but not our new TQ+ overlords who want to abolish LGB. It's understandable to feel rage, we are all at the end of our patience with the gender identity nonsense. 😂

      @rz correct, it has been made all about transgender people while activists exclude gay men and lesbian women from thier own movement. Gender is a made up bunch of non Universal's about how men and women should behave. Sex is unchangeable. Why lie to those who are struggling to find their way?
