My Goldie was floating and we thought she was dead but I came upon one of your videos and she’s perfectly fine now back to herself 🥰 🐠 thx for the advice we appreciate your videos!
You are literally the only person I go to to get information about fish and your fish. I used to own fish, and your information really helped me take care of them, so thanks!
I used to have two beta fish that I fed dry pebble food. They instantly became bloated. I tried everything, cleaning out the tank frequently, getting rid of plants putting plants in but nothing worked. Finally I tried soaking the pebbles before and also gave them soaked krill. The bloating wasn’t as bad but was still there. The fish lived for about 2 years but sadly died. Later I got two more fish. I completely cut out the e pebbles and started giving them flakes. Now there is virtually no blotting. One fish died of old age but the other is alive with me for 3 years now (assuming she was not that old when living in the pet shop). I love her very much and am happy she isn’t bloated.
I am so glad to see that it's normal practice to let the pellets soak! I do this with all my aquatic animals, including axolotls. They rarely get pellets, they get worms mostly but sometimes, I spice it up with a little variety and soak the pellets. That's mainly because they be one buoyant and get sucked in the filter before they get eaten... Which is annoying. Anyway, glad to see I'm not wrong for doing it!
I started keeping aquarium back in 2007 and the first fish that I brought were tomato capped goldies. Since I was a beginner I used to give them pallettes directly and in large quantity. Most of them died within 10 days because of swollen bellies and Bloating. Like this I lost 2 more batches of fish. I searched for it with other good sellers, and they told me the same trick as soaking pallettes will release extra air and this way it becomes big just like Sphaggeti or rice. After that hardly any fish died because of this reason
It’s selective breeding and Im pretty sure it is actually a survival disadvantage cause they’ll just die without a human taking care of them so they don’t exist in the wild
I'm sure their ancient ancestor just had a tiny pad of skin that protected their noggin when they bumped into stuff, those goldfish survived better than ones without the bump, female goldfish might've liked how it looked so it got a little bigger over generations, until finally some breeder with zero restraint went "I CAN BREED THESE GOLDFISH TO HAVE FACE TESTICLES"
To avoid swim bladder problems, I usually not only soak my pellets but also use a rafter to put them underwater and crush them to make a paste. Call it excessive, but brings me peace of mind after my tilapia and about 6 goldfish died these last 2 years
I knew that soaking was good for Goldies with swim bladder issues because they would sink and thus the fish wouldn’t gulp up any air whilst trying to eat food floating at the surface, but I didn’t know that it was also to increase the density of the food by replacing the air pockets within them with water.
I do this for my beta fish. Makes it easier for them to eat because I was worried they were choking. I’m glad it has other benefits that I did not know.
Something cool. Dogs can have problems with the air in their kibble too. I dont have a dog yet but have been studying dogs and dog health and found out a lot about food for animals. Lots of dogs don't tolerate kibble like people think. It has too much air or grain or not enough of uncommon meat products. Some dogs get bloat and can die from it. I didn't know that, I'm so glad I found that out now so I don't have to have that heart break like that.
So from what I understand soaking the pellets can prevent issues and it doesn't seem to take very long I guess I would always soak the pellets if I had goldfish🐟
Or you could just buy different food for them that's not designed to float. The point of pellets is to float so that fish who feed off the top of the water eat the food before it sinks to the bottom and rots.
I really wish I knew this before I bought a beta on a whim at a pet smart if owned them before so I knew what to do I got him all comfortable and his water prepared and everything. I’d thought I’d bought a pale white, with a red stripper one, so a few days in and he couldn’t eat a single thing. So I bought a new type of food, he liked the dry pellets the flakes, so that worked I finally got him eating two weeks go by and he changed colors to vivid blue red with a hint or green, beautiful, but then he started swimming straight up and down, so I did some research and sure enough he had swim bladder issues I did everything I could for him but he ended up dying after only about a month in my care, it was way more upsetting than I thought. I put in a lot of work to make sure he was warm enough getting him live plants and a huge tank and he died without much warning.
I just feed flakes and mix them arround the tank. They are easier to digest and they all end up in the rocks so the fish keep busy pecking at the rocks looking for little pieces of food.
People swear by sinking pellets, but there's a reason that floating fish and swim bladder issues are insanely uncommon with POND kept goldfish which almost always eat floating pellets.
You can put pellets in a syringe with some water, then close the opening with your finger, and pull to make a vacuum. After you let go, all of the air is gone out of the pellets
Back when I was able to keep goldfish before moving into an apartment I used to feed New Life spectrum, it was a sinking food that you could actually clump together like Play-Doh so you had the ability to select pellet size for different fish.
Peoples always says that having a fish as a pet is easy Thats why gold fishes die every day cuz they aren’t getting treated like the way they have to be Massive respect to the guy ❤️❤️🙌🙌
Your goldfish are so beautiful and healthy looking. My father had Orandas and Fantails in the 70's, he had a mirror made for the bottom of the tank. It was really beautiful at night with the light on. Too bad there is no goldfish emoji. Why isn't there?
You can also do rhis with puppies to transition them into hard food. I usually let the hard food soak in water until it's puffy and soft, so that the puppies can eat it easier. Then I slowly transition into hard food for them, that's what I did with the litter of puppies I have currently
Fastest way to soak the pellets is to put the required quantity in a big syringe body with some tank water. Then put the syringe back pushy thing inside. Close the front nozzle with thumb and pull the pushy thing backwards. Coz the pressure inside the pellets get filled with water instantly and the pellets become water soaked. I use this method coz I don’t have patience
and my friend called me crazy because i did this for my goldfish lol they are fat and very prone to a swim bladder issue XD i love them P.S. if your anyof your fish get clogged up feed them a peeled pea, itll make them poop faster than chiptole
It's always better to give "Sinking Feed" to Goldfish because the digestive track of these fish is not developed properly and hence they get bloating problems easily. Also "Floating" pellets have high air content, so it's better to use the way suggested in above video.
If anyone is asking if its ok that the fish is out of the water and it probably can't breathe it's ok to take out a fish out of a water they can still breathe as long as there wet
One of the worst things for your goldfish is to let it surface gulp. Goldfish are a type of carp and are bottom feeders. Had an ex who fed her goldfish non sinking flakes and floating pellets, and she lost many goldfish. I told her exactly what she did wrong but she didn't listen and now she has no goldfish cause she "knew what she was doing"...
Not Only goldfish but also bettas and certain cichlids too. Always have frozen and flake foods on hand If you are in a hurry and don't have time to soak pellets.,
I love how they just quickly spin around and around to get their food. Imagine having to forget any problems for like 5 seconds and eating free food and living in fresh, clean, wadurr. Edit: wait they can remember things for years?
Cats should also be fed wetted food. They're a desert species and biologically speaking, they're used to getting all their water from the food. Try offering your cat 2 dishes. One with wetted pellets
I got 6 goldfishes from a guy once in a fish bowl..The next day all of them died..for no reason absolutely..I went back and he told me that you might have over feeded them..Then I bought some more fishes..And feeded them accurately..They too died after 2 days..Then I felt bad so I stopped getting fishes from then...
I actually like this video because I used to have a two goldfish and both died so maybe this video was helpful to me so next time I get a goldfish I will do that.
When fish swallow dry pellets, the pellets will swell inside them as they absorb the fish's fluids. The pellets are smaller when first ingested so the fish eat more and don't realize that the pellets will swell up inside them and cause problems. I always soak my pellets for that reason.
