  • Today we're looking at an EVAP Drain Valve. The Drain Valve is an emission control device. The Drain Valve simply controls the ambient air to be introduced to the EVAP canister. (A link on how to remove the evap canister is listed below.) The drain valve shown is from a 2010 Subaru Impreza.
    A number of trouble codes are deal with the evap drain valve, included:
    P0442 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Small leak)
    P0447 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Open
    P0448 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Shorted
    P0456 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Very small leak)
    P0457 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel cap loose or off)
    P1443 - Vent Control Solenoid Valve Function Problem

    EVAP Drain Valve Operating Conditions:
    Battery voltage - 10.9v
    Atmospheric pressure - 75kPa
    Total time of canister purge - 120 seconds
    Engine speed - 1050 - 6000 rpm
    Fuel tank pressure: -4kPa
    Intake manifold vacuum: -26.7kPa
    Vehicle speed - At least 20MPH
    Fuel level - 2.54 gallons or 9.6 liters
    Fuel temperature - 14-113 F
    Intake air temperature - 14F and above
    Air fuel ratio - .76 - 1.25

    Can the motor be serviced or replaced separately? The assembly is quite expensive

    My car always smells like gasoline! Could this be the reason!? I got those EVAP codes! And my car is not revving pass 4k RPMs, i drive a 2006 Subaru Outback!
