Hey everyone. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to show you how to factory reset a JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker. Restoring your Flip 5 to its default factory settings restores the speaker's settings to what they were when you took it out of the box for the first time. Specifically, everyone who is paired with your portable speaker will kicked off of the device, and if you changed your speaker to play audio in low frequency or some other mode, the Flip 5 will return to its normal mode. But restoring your JBL Flip 5 to its factory settings isn't just good for kicking people off of your Bluetooth speaker. You should restore your JBL Bluetooth speaker's factory defaults before selling it to someone or giving it to a friend or family member, and it's also one of the standard troubleshooting options you should go to before moving on to more drastic measures, such as taking your speaker apart. Resetting your JBL Flip 5 to its default factory settings only takes a few seconds.
And now let's walk through the steps to factory reset the JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth speaker.
Step 1. Turn your Flip 5 on, and then make sure the device is powered on. You can tell the device is on when the Power button has a blue backlight.
Step 2. Hold both the "Volume Up" and "Play" buttons down until the device turns off by itself. This will take roughly five seconds. You can tell the device has powered down when the blue backlight behind the Power button is no longer on, and when you hear this power down sound. At this point, you have successfully reset the JBL Flip 5 to its factory default settings.
Step 3. Press the "Power" button again to power the Bluetooth speaker back on. The device will automatically be in discovery mode, which is indicated by this pinging sound you'll hear after turning the device on, and by the blinking of the backlight behind the Bluetooth button. At this point, there are no devices paired with your JBL Flip 5 speaker, and you'll need to pair a device with the Bluetooth speaker to hear audio through it.

I was having problems with distorted (popping) sound on my Flip 5 (volume typically set at 60%). The factory reset seems to have resolved that issue for now. Not sure if/when the problem will return so I'll enjoy it while I can. Thank you for posting this video.

Damn it actually worked, I bought a flip 5 and maybe 2 months after I got it (I take very good care of it) it started doing this thing where it pops every 2 seconds. Noticed it the first time I tried to pair my new phone. I thought it was my phone but now it works perfect.

Thx for this tutorial! I decided to do this factory reset of the Flip 5 today because as it was playing music from my phone, it first was doing a crackling sound, and then it started blasting loudly with the sound of a foghorn. *That was freaky.* I turned it off. Then did this reset. As I'm typing, I'm trying to pair the Flip 5 with the phone again. In the Bluetooth setting, it made me delete the Flip 5 that was listed there. Now the phone isn't "finding" the Flip 5 even though they're sitting next to each other and the Flip is doing that search thing it does. I turned the Flip off again and then turned it on (again!). Now the phone recognized it. I hope I don't get the loud foghorn sound again. The steps start at 1:02

Try “Forget this Device” in your iPhone or where you are trying to pair it. Let it become discoverable again. It worked for me!

i was about to get rid of my second jbl now because my first one had a popping sound and i got the 5 and then it started turning off on a full charge, as well as not making the power up/down noise. But it fixed it for now!

Thanks a lot. I could not play via my Win10 machine. connection but no sound. Could play music over any other machine but not this Win10. Resetting to factory defaults did help.

Great question. That’s always a risk when you do something like that. I’ll show people how to do it, and I’ll advise that they avoid cranking up the volume because it will damage your speaker.

My flip 5 is automatically turning on and off what's the problem with it

same. Im having a huge issue with other devices being connected to my computer and the JBL refuses to work - its just skips and stutters with my bluetooth mouse, keyboard - there is no reason this device should be doing this.

I don't think so. There's a specific button combination you'll need to use to cycle through the speaker modes. You'll have to do some digging, as I'm not sure what that is for the Flip 5. I avoid messing with that.

Just having an issue after having it since last october. It will power off randomly even with music playing. And has still had charge. Ive noticed the batt life bar not illuminated when on when it has before
#maxdalton *When I plug JBL Flip 5 with the charging port it turns on for sometime but after 1 or 2 minutes it turns off. Please make a video how to fix it.*
I can't be completely certain, but it sounds like your battery may be done for. If you want to replace it, you'll have to remove the cover from your speaker, and then there are some screws you need to remove to get to the battery. I've just seen other people do this on CZcams, but I've never done it myself, and I'm not sure what a new battery will cost you.

I bought one 5 days ago, brand new (Walmart) , I left my speaker charging about 10 hours and just have a half battery charged, when I turn on and play my music at med volume it turns off after 30 or 40 minutes playing because the battery is empty? I doing something wrong when I charging the speaker or I need a refund?

L had messed around and disabled DSP. Speaker didn't sound the same. This reset has restored it to it's original quality

When connecting more than one flip 5 together, after about 30 min it automatically disconnects if I do not have both simultaneously connected to my phone via bluetooth (since this causes disruptions in the sound if further apart). I have heard several have this problem. Do you have an fix for that issue? It's not the particular speaker itself either as I have experimented with 4 different brand new flip 5s.

You may want to exchange it if you still can. You can take the cover off and make sure the buttons are lining up, but that's gonna be a headache. I don't have anything other than that.
i think there is something very wrong with this flip-5. i followed your steps in this video. The problem is the blue back light never comes on no matter what I do. Thanks for making the video I think it's telling me there is a defected component inside.

Hi,
I'm a bit confused about "LF" and "normal" mode. I have two Flip 5's (TL version) and a lot of my friends too. They all came out of the box with "LF" mode On. Once, out of curiosity I disabled LF mode and speaker sounded shallow like an empty tin can, terrible.
Can you clarify to me what is "normal" and what is web trash talk.

Eventhough I guess the video helps out a lot of peeps, its definately showing that in my case, the JBL Flip5 just arrived broken in the box. This is the second JBL product that lets me down. Never JBL again for me....
nothing of any tips worked but as soon as I accidently was warned that my file sharing was turned off and I turned it back on, my jbl was responding for the first time since yesterday. I had not been able to charge it or turn it on or any blue light or anything. Now it it just started, is now charging.

Here’s a thing I’ve never used the speaker and it’s almost 2 years old it’s been in a box. It shows it has full power but it will not stay on. I can turn it on and immediately turn itself off. I have done as you’ve instructed on this video of resetting the JBL five flip but it automatically shuts off before I can actually pair my phone to the speaker.
