I went through something similar when I bought a f150 from a dealer in Corpus Christi. Never received a title and went to the dmv, ended up not being the only one being scammed by him. Thankfully I had all the paperwork, so even though it was stolen I was able to get a bonded title.
That sucks. Not sure how it works in USA. But in UK if you do one of these checks(HPI in UK) and something comes back wrong like in your situation. You can actually put a claim against them for damages. Not sure if you have that option in USA though

Keep your Head up you did everything you were supposed to do when you bought the car... a small set back it would have been worse if you were charged for grand theft auto and it not being your fault.. Everything happens for a reason I always say ....life has something bigger coming in your future
