As horrible as the vietnam war was for all parties involved it is romaticised so heavily that I wish i was genuinely there to experience it. This edit is amazing and I pray all the vets find peace someday. It's so sad that they had it rough and then it only got worse when they got home. God bless

All heavily documented events generally end up being romanticized. However, I find this to be a particularly "Western" tendency. Many other cultures simply view war and conflict as just part of human existence and while they may remember it, for example, in their memorial ceremonies and so forth, there is no romanticizing it.
I fought Jihad against the Soviet Union from 1980-1982 in Afghanistan as a volunteer from neighboring Pakistan, as did many Muslims worldwide who answered the call. A lot of us were very young (I was 16) and what you Americans call "fired up" and had no fear of death or dying. We were part of the irregulars called the Mujahideen (Ronald Reagan was a great admirer of them and likened them to the American freedom fighters of 1776). They later changed their name to the Taliban.
Most Americans are quite ignorant of world history/affairs and simply swallow all the propaganda their media feeds them, no different from the Nazis but a lot more sophisticated. Most Americans have no idea that, for example, Saddam Hussein and Manuel Noreiga were both puppets of the US and were removed when they appeared to become "too independent."
The US is an empire and engages in empire-making just as any other empire has in the past, no different. But the American people are sold these wars as a fight for "freedom & democracy." What is indeed different is the control that American corporations and government have over their people who think that they are "free." Hedonism and consumerism are NOT freedom.
I am an old man now, but I do not suffer from any "bad dreams" or PTSD. It appears to me that young Western men seem to think that "combat" is some exciting game and they will have some "halo" around them when they come back and would be thought of as "bad asses." I suppose this is why I see so much overdone hero-worship of your Navy SEALS and such groups.
The average Taliban fighter can outperform any of them. These people live at high altitudes and subsist all their lives on basic food. They have no air conditioning/heating. They walk long distances every day (no cars). Their daily lives are extremely tough, and their harsh environment makes them exceptionally hardy, both physically and mentally. Just because they cannot bench press 500 lbs. does not mean you can defeat them in combat over the long run. The US discovered this fact as did the British empire and the Soviets.
It was what it was, and it is over. I have memories of it and a few photographs and that is about it. My faith and belief in my religion has carried me to this day. We truly fought for the freedom of our Muslim brothers and achieved it. Just as the Taliban recently did. Hopefully, the US will not enter this new war in Ukraine.

Canister rounds alongside with incendiary napalm munitions served a good job that time, though they were phased out in favor of precision strike munitions. Henceforth when huge masses of enemy troops advance, old school munitions should be taken from the stocks and laden up to pods of aircrafts. We see that kind of hostility today and it reminds any army of having their munitions stocks replenished unless they have to contend emboldened and desperate invaders.

most of them could be converted to things like JDAM though, you don't really need to come up with completely standalone weapons for precision strike

Your footage of all of the action is great! But since, at that time, while Black Americans comprised only about 11% of the total U.S. population, but about a full 33% of ALL U.S. combat troops fighting in Vietnam, why is there no "action" footage of them which also honors THEIR great bravery and sacrifice?
Soldiers like black Marine Pvt. 1st Class James Anderson, Jr., who, on August 21, 1968, in heavy fighting near Cam Lo, threw his body onto a live VC grenade which had just landed right in the middle of a tight group of he and his squad, which was returning fire.
As directly witnessed by his fellow Marines, Pvt. Anderson, with no hesitation, threw his body onto the grenade, clutched it to his chest and curled his body around it. Although Pvt. Anderson was, of course, instantly killed, he saved the lives of 5 or 6 of his buddies immediately around him who would have CERTAINLY died.
For his gallantry, Marine Pvt.1st Class James Anderson, Jr. received the Medal of Honor, posthumously. (Look it up.)
