• The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, and also known in Vietnam as Resistance War Against America or simply the American War, was a Cold War-era proxy war[citation needed that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1 November 1955 to the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975. This war followed the First Indochina War (1946-54) and was fought between North Vietnam-supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies-and the government of South Vietnam-supported by the United States and other anti-communist allies. The Viet Cong, a South Vietnamese communist common front aided by the North, fought a guerrilla war against anti-communist forces in the region. The People's Army of Vietnam (also known as the North Vietnamese Army) engaged in a more conventional war, at times committing large units to battle.

The Vietnam War (1955 - 1975) should be remembered for being the world's very first televised conflict, and most of it was all filmed in glorious technicolour as well.
How can I ever forget? I was in Vietnam with the U.S. Army in 1969, and I recall seeing reporters and a large Channel 7 news camera not too far from us.

America did not lose . There was a peace Treaty signed in January 1973 , NVN agreed to stop all hostility against SVN if America left . Actually the South lost the war not the U.S. The US just left because the South was too chickenshit and corrupt to actually put up a fight and didn't really care. So the US decided it was time to go. there's no way you can accomplish your objective when your own Ally that asked you to help them in the first place is stabbing you in the back in the middle of the night. Truth be told the United States was less than two weeks away from total victory and an unconditional surrender of North Vietnam after operation linebacker one and operation linebacker II. The North was forced back to the negotiating table to sign the Paris Peace Accords. It was a peace treaty. They had no choice because they were being bombed into Oblivion. It was the only way to end the war without losing face and being completely destroyed, and they knew it. History shows they could not be taken at their word even if signed in ink. a few years later they violated the Peace Accords and invaded the South as they agreed they would not. of course by that time the United States had long pulled out all of its combat forces, all that remained were a few Embassy guards and some minimal amount of personnel. if we're going to discuss history please be honest. I have been to Vietnam several times myself in fact I'm married to a Vietnamese woman. I love my in-laws my wife and our daughter. I have nothing but respect for the Beauty culture and the history of the Vietnamese people. Lets just be honest, we owe it to the memories of the fallen and survivors on both sides. ✌
