    Very powerful, very emotional story. Kate Woodcraft is a lucky little girl to have such a determined, courageous and thoughtful mother. Astra, your story is inspiring. Scientology may be powerful, but not as powerful as a mother's love. I wish there was some way that every member of the Scientology organization could watch this video. I keep wondering how anyone, with even a semblance of a conscience, could be involved with an organization that would countenance such evil behavior. Yet, Scientology continues to retain and attract new members. It is indeed a cult; apparently one that has developed a very effective means of brainwashing its members.

      Religion is Man's idea of God.
      This is why there are many different ones.
      There is only One Creator and One Truth, One Savior
      God our Creator, The Bible and Jesus Christ.

    Crazy to think that “baby Kate” is about 20 years old today in 2019. I think Astra said she had her in 1998. You know though that Astra having gone through what she did & having her childhood stolen from her she made sure Kate had every fun, childhood experience that she herself missed out on. It was smart of Astra or get pregnant even if it didn’t go quite as she expected it to. In a way, Kate saved her mother from Scientology by being born. 😉

    What bothers me is this; people who think of Scientology as a religion or faith, and are abused and misused, they turn their back on it and walk away. That's great, and I'm glad for them to escape. But do they then apply that to all other faiths? Are there any former Scientologists who are Christians, or muslims, or catholics, or mormons?
    Does Scientology cause its former members to close themselves off to meaningful worship in other, more genuine forms?

    • @TheHellSpawn000
      @TheHellSpawn000 Před 10 lety

      Every single person has a right to pick and chose their own religion and everyone has a right to worship. There is nothing that says the moment someone leaves scientology that they need to immediately lock themselves onto a religion as some people when they leave scientology that doesn't mean they lost their faith or belief in the ideals of scientology they just don't believe in the crude way people are treated. And the fact that in your mind you believe that someone has to be Locked onto a religion is quite close minded and a broadly offensive way to think. Atheism doesn't mean someone Doesn't have belief it means that someone has made their own choice of their own free will to Not openly worship, and to Dispute some claims different religions make.

    • @overmortal
      @overmortal Před 10 lety

      ***** "close minded and a broadly offensive way to think"? What kind of knee-jerk reaction is this? I never said someone had to be "locked onto a religion", as you put it. I said I hope that leaving one religion doesn't sour them on all the others.
      Also, your definition of atheism is, according to 99% of the atheists that I know, have had fantastic conversations with, and am even friends with, a dramatically non-standard definition of atheism.

    I Feel for her, However, She clearly stated that she used her husband whom she didnt love nor want to be married to, to have a child in order to have a reason to leave scientology. Then at the end she starts talking about how she realized she needed child support. She could have left another way instead she chose to use this man for her way out then turn around and make him pay for it? If you keep listening she thinks its okay to make her husband go work and pay her child support while she goes to school. Clearly she did not want to work and wanted another free ride. She chose to leave and she chose to be a mother in this case it should be her sole responsibilty based on her own confession to take care of her child.

    A total disappointment. I notice she didn't talk about her time before she joined the Sea Org - a choice - at the Cadet Org. We went to zoos, took Karate lessons, went to the local AMC theaters and comic stores, had garage sales, went swimming, had cookie sales and went to the beach and parks. No, it was not perfect but I am tired of people doing a one-sided rip on my religion.

    • @thespectator3368
      @thespectator3368 Před 10 lety +8

      What? Did you even listen to what she said? This family was torn apart because of Scientology and you have the temerity to suggest she talk about how much fun she had as a cadet? Of course, you don't mention how much time cadets put into physical labor and how most of them received little or no education. But life as a cadet was not perfect (as you said).
      I'm tired of Scientologists lying and covering up for their corrupt group. It's not a one-sided rip on your religion it's only people telling the truth about Scientology. Scientology sucks! I know after foolishly being a member for over 30 years.
      Take an honest look at Scientology for a change. Watch the videos here on CZcams, read the various blogs, read some of the excellent books starting with "Going Clear". You'll enjoy life much better once you've left the toxic group of Scientology.

    • @mtlosardo
      @mtlosardo Před 10 lety +6

      Jerlana, your comment sounds angry. What is missing in scientology is that little human right known as 'free-will,' which is a bit more important in a person's life than movies and karate. The angels of this world try to reveal any organization that spreads fear, because the true spiritual path - regardless of the religion one chooses - is filled with Love. May you find self-mastery, free will, and joy sooner rather than later. Of course you are free to feel as you wish.

    • @Jerlana
      @Jerlana Před 10 lety

      My family wasn't torn apart. I saw my mom every day. We had fun with the physical labor. I ran little kids on picking up trash around the property and we had the time of our lives. We took care of ourselves with a bit of help from the adults, not the other way around. Yeah, sometimes we didn't get paid. Wasn't perfect. And WTF is 'Scientologists lying and covering up for their corrupt group?' That's pretty much akin to 'I'm tired of childsex loving Catholics ruining my neighborhood'. I can say with reasonable certainty that everything you know about Scientology, you got from people who take pleasure in spreading venom all over the place. I seem to recall that Astra was one of the older kids that got to go on a camping trip to the Smoky Mountains that I would have DIED to go on. All the little lies and exaggeration add up.@WanttoKnow, you sound like a bit less of an ass. I exercised my free will all the time when I was there. I went to the New Years Event (gorgeous), I decided to go work at their Central Files building by the Fort Harrison for a bit and had a BALL, I went sailing and went to the library and checked out too many books on wildlife and veterinarian medicine, I bought comic books when I had money some times. I got into fights, I cooked my own food, I was a hairy little toughie and I was damn proud of it. Have a more detailed posting on my blog, Check it out: coyotewithoutamap, it's on wordpress. It's also just screwball, occasionally philsophical fun. If you care, that's my story. I'd like to get it out there.

    • @mtlosardo
      @mtlosardo Před 10 lety +1

      Jerlana Jerlana, are you still active with Scientology?

    • @Jerlana
      @Jerlana Před 10 lety

      WantToKnow I still study and read Scientology books. I am not able to currently go to an Org.
      And slog63, I went to school at the Cadet Org. Same as Astra and her sister Zoe. As to never receiving any schooling, I learned more there of ACTUAL ACADEMICS than I learned in the next fifteen years at 'proper schools'. I enjoyed the working because I didn't feel like I had no value and if by 'parent's rules' you mean don't think, don't ask questions, don't learn about the world around you and stay in a nicey-nice safe little box and don't be anything but a pretty, ignorant little doll, yeah.
      My mom taught me about discipline, focus and logic. She was fully involved in my life. And Scientology doesn't do JACK ALL to make people feel bad about anything but attacking them, calling them evil and worse. The fact that you apparently think they should just sit there all Meemie-weemie martyr while people sling poison and lie tells me just how much I should value your viewpoint.
      Scientologists refuse to be victims. They're not perfect, but that one thing proves they are more intelligent and more worthwhile than 90% of the people I talk to. I would listen if anti-Scientologists actually had anything worthwhile to say. It's in my nature to look at things objectively to the max, so much to the point where people think I'm weird.
      But people who attack Scientology never tell me anything that doesn't have a slant, they always have an agenda, they are almost always sadistic and when I ask ONE QUESTION. ONE QUESTION. They verbally cut my throat so badly that it hurts and explain how worthless I am as a human being.
      Astra had fun. There were good times and bad times but she NEVER said that. Listening to her words, we were all beaten, chained up in rotten basements and basically uneducated orphans in a poorhouse. She was supposedly a white hat, the adults were black hats and all out to get her. THAT is what tells me that what she says has no merit.
