What a cracking video and show from the pair of S160s Phil, plenty of grunt too lovely stuff, need to visit again soon as not been on the steep climb, Steve . 😊👍

Thanks Steve, a great show! Yes, well worth going up the steep bank. It's like 2 different railways, a gentle trip through the valley, then a battle up to Ipstones 👍😀

Quality video Phil. Takes me right back to the double headed, and heavily loaded holiday specials climbing Talerddig in days gone by

Great video of two great locos, good to see good use of zooming, many people hardly use zoom, thank you for the entertainment, Pete

Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed it. Yes i love the long zoom lens. It also allows you to get shots, that are not other wise easy and get away from the crowds on a platform.

Yes, it's good to get punch by filling the lens at distance and winding back keeping the loco large, good videoing
      Best wishes, Pete

Lovely stuff Phil; it’s great to see and hear something different (the S160s) to the usual fare. The sound of them working together is amazing, I love how the exhaust beats slip in and out of sync; like something written by Steve Reich.
And the sound of an American chime whistle echoing through the countryside! Absolutely brilliant.

Awesome sound! I was due to have a footplate experience there as a retirement present but Covid got in the way, still trying to fit in a visit.

Yes it was! A disappointment, but hopefully you still have it to look forward to soon.

Dirty devils😃 I visited the Churnett Valley in April, expecting a steady bumble along the valley, which on the whole it was.... then we turned sharp right and all hell broke loose, brilliant. An interesting railway.... track wants a bit of fettling up the bank but definitely worth the ride😎👍

Very good video. Never been to the line. Cannot afford to go to any. My fault. Sorry.😥

I would have waited for Pendennis Castle to take me back, on the return journey, If I'd been there. Rule no. 1: when an S160 hauls your train, stay at the very back so the chime whistle isn't so loud down your ears. You can capture her if you want, but no zooming in, if there are too many heads in shot. It's better that way and less risk of earache.
Rule no. 2: stay at the end of the line till a different steamy, like Pendennis Castle, comes along. You can be at the front of the train on the way back, and listen to her bark and shrill whistle loud and proud. That's the way to do it when it comes to a steam gala.

Only one problem Kelly! You can't get off the train at the end of the line. No station, just a run around loop. I prefer the middle of the train, and get the best of both worlds, apart from a few heads maybe lol.

Fantastic sound. Looks like they were working hard on a steep gradient. The line is not easy for me to get to, I would like to see what it's really like there.

    • @philclarke3203
      @philclarke3203  Před 25 dny

It was, and they were Colin! I in 39 at the steepest. I'm sure you would enjoy it, but as you say, not the easiest to get to, by public transport. About an hour's drive for me, but each time I've been I've got lost somewhere

@@philclarke3203 That is steep 1:49 on NYMR is gentle compared to that. Shame it is out of the way and not many busses go near, also they go from Hanley so would mean getting there from Stoke.

That was a bit different. The strange noises those locos made. I guess it was their Westinghouse gear ?
