"Dumb It Down" viral music video
1st & 15th/Atlantic Records - Hudba
His wordplay is no joke. Lupe is one of the best MCs, ever.
KiN CAMELL EVEN SCOOBA STEVE WILL FIND IT HARD TO BREATHE
Easily
riveting as rosie... dig into to that one...
Him n Daylyt the two greatest lyricist of my era period, pac my favourite rapper.
Best mc huh what's speedrun time
Lupe is the epitomy of intelligent rap......................
+jennevaa epitome
+Andrew Urena ....you're right...just got to typing too fast and didn't pay attention...if it lets me correct, I will............
+jennevaa :)..
jennevaa Absolutely 👍👍
Clearly you haven't listened to immortal technique
Gotta come back to Lupe, even in 2022. ❤️
Yea I have most songs from food and liquor and the cool in my playlist
I love you.
Not dumbing it down for nobody n 2023
2024. this is still the shit
This is absolute genius and the irony is this song won't get the respect it deserves as one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time because its too genius. Lupe is a top 3 MC all time in my book
This song is hot! His style is not for everyone, but that's okay. Lupe doesn't need to "dumb it down." Most people just need to "smarten up."
@Opal Lewis mad late but true
"You'll sell more records if you DUMB IT DOWN" This can't be more of the truth of how today's rap has become.
that's how rap has always been. the most popular rap songs are usual easier to understand
+cooleojordan50 thank you.. shit rappers always existed... vanilla ice anyone?
Exactly my thoughts! Almost all of the rappers have dumbed down their originality to sell records.
yeah but today is reaching a new low, back then rappers still had more flow style and punch line, they had alot more integrity, how many people you know gives vanilla ice respect. Nowadays they don't even try, no effort at all.
Ryuujin1078 I don't believe you
This shit a mfkn classic that almost touchin the knees of stewardess and the pilot bar always make me play the whole song over
This whole album is one of the best hip hop albums of the past 40 years.
"With no neck left to hang the chain with, Which makes me necklace-less, like a necklace theft."
I remember the first time hearing that lyric like "whoa!"
His mixtapes have TONS of lines like this
And they say Kenny brought hip hop back. Lupe been trying to bring it back for years. it's just at the time he was doing it they weren't ready.
Can I ask who Kenny is? :)
Kendrick
b145701s kenny rogers bro
Jesse Webster
listen to sing about me
Exactly, if Rap Genius had been around during Lupe's come up, he would have been so much more appreciated even if Lupe was the reason they had to create that website lmao
So many people forget that part of being a great rapper is wordplay. Lupe is ALWAYS playing with his lyrics and ends up somersaulting.
That’s why most new rappers can’t freestyle
I cannot believe I never really took this guy seriously. I just knew him as the dude who made "superstar". After listening to his crazy freestyle on Sway I started listening to his music and have been listening to him for the past 2 days straight. He is one of my favourite rappers of all time. This song is an absolute mind fuck, genius.
This really made me happy.
You might just save hip hop, thank you. Lasers and FL2 have to be taken for what they are, but don't ignore Enemy of the State and Friend of the People - which came out to showcase his lyrical proficiency during the time Atlantic wanted him dropping 3-4 singles an album.
Nice. Finally somebody with a good taste of rap. You should listen to Hurt me soul, it's my favorite track of Lupe.
Superstar is lyrical too.
+mhhs313 you should listen to "the instrumental" blow your mind
15 years later, this couldnt be more true..
"Even scuba steve would find it hard to breathe around these leagues.
My snorkel is a tuba, LU the rula around these seas.
West side Poseidon,
West side beside 'em,
Chest-high and rising, almost touching the knees,
Of stewardess and the pilot,
Lucky the make you flight wit,
Personal floating devices, tricks falling out my sleeves."
Just came for my yearly does of Lupe and jesus if those aren't some of the best bars I've ever heard.
Top Tier lyricism...
still one of the best written songs ever.
One of the the greatest hip-hop songs of all time.
I love Lupe's irony, song's called 'dumb it down' but the song is about as deep as a Russian novel, man's on a whole another level with the words he spits. Love him!
One of the best lyricist ever 🤔 👌🏿💪🏿⭐
The wordplay is the song is too sick and ten time higher than most lyrical content. You have to really pay attention to get most of the metaphors and reference Lupe is spitting 🔥🔥🔥🔥. I still enjoy listening to the song till this day
Caless Davis Killah Priest - Atoms To Adam ?
I spinx like Leon or lion in the desert.
Very few has mastered the art of rapping. Lupe is one of the very few rappers that has mastered it.
Its crazy that in 2016 this song still holds true. Nobody wants to buy songs that aren't about money, cars, or about treating women like shit. This is the reason Lupe is so underrated. Nobody wants to hear the truth.
100% agree 👍 with you
Shut most rappers that can actually rap don't think to much of people so they dumb their music down. Also A&Rs usually tell their artist to do so.
Agree, brother! Hip-Hop is moving away from what was supposed to be a pure artistic lyrical exhibition, to something that's cringe worthy; Do you think people are willing to listen to albums like T&Y? They need catchy songs full of consumerism and materialistic shit; They need a guy talking about drugs, treating women like objects. That's messed up.
I will never be impressed by a rapper who brags about how many Jordan's he has, and how his women does dirty things to him like a slave. Do you think that a song like that reaches a hardworking student who's trying very hard to pay his bills? Nah I don't think so. But this Lupe's work, this shit is REAL ART. GOAT. #Respect
+Paneesh PunIntended Hell yeah! Like he said we need to take it back to the lyrics.
Todd Hodges shit nobody was listening then, def aren't now. I heard this in highschool, changed my life
And this is why Lupe will always be my favorite mainstream rapper.
Same.
Charbory Belton same-r
Logan Hollis MC Frontalot's "A little Bit Broad"
Logan Hollis MC Frontalot's "A little Bit Broad"
Logan Hollis Yeah a then he releases Lazers, lmaooo he couldn't stay true smh.
i love it. Never diminish your intelligence, talents, or make yourself smaller so someone else can feel better.
*Masterclass*
Lupe tried to warn us. His commentary on the sickness and pursuit of the superficial is superb. At the expense of knowledge and morality "they're starting to think that smart is cool Lou...so dumb it down"
Why dont our people enjoy music that makes them "think"??
These LYRICS though. ...FIRE
This man is talented intelligent beyond his time.. a real MC lyrisits
I hate simple music ... Cant even call it music
Dope!!
*p.s. its 2018 by the way*
Jupiter Stars "you're making em wanna do right Lu"
U beautiful btw
every time i come across this song, gotta replay 3 times
Of course this song is super dope but this video cracks me up.
I just realised Kendrick got a whole lot of his style from Lupe.
BrowneVisuals facts
Very true that shit is real
Yep. Lupe even inspired me💪🎤🎧🔥
BrowneVisuals They are both conscious, but their sound is different.
@Ramz Channel No, mumble rappers just starting showing up in the last 3-4 years, the Lyricists that are older than them, like Kendrick, J. Cole, Sean, Wale, etc were already being credited with bringing back lyrcism earlier in the decade around 2011-2013, before mumble rap blew up. Lupe was before all of it though.
First hip hop song I ever heard when I was a kid was a Lupe song, ever since then I loved it and he'll always be GOAT to me
kick push?
+Parker Knight Show Goes On and then I listened to the cool album
+J WG nice!, that's my second favorite song by him! I really like him! but I always preferred Childish Gambino... Idk Childish is really funny and I just love his essence,(not to mention that Donald is also my favorite actor and comedian)
Parker Knight Yeah I like Lupe, Big L, Royce, Dyemond Lewis, Joey, Mos Def and shit like that
+J WG same!
Can’t believe this was 14 years ago!
He basically predicted this generation with this song
Ramona park Legend faxxx
nah.... this has always been honestly.... back then there was snap and crunk like soulja boy and unk...... not that theyre bad or anything but as according to lu its dumbed down
Raygz
True tbh. I remember when drake waa coming up. He got SO much hate that we was a soft fake rapper. Now he runs the game....
drake's music isnt really "bad" at least by majority of the people, its just that drake goes in on different genres besides hip hop, usually r&b and now pop dancehall/soca.... but people like lil pump i guess is socially considered as a "bad artist", kinda like soulja boy, where people would note their use of jewelry, drugs, women and repetitive lyrics...
@@Marc98338 but doesn't that prove his theory incorrect? then he got hate for dullness/emptiness,now praise?
Even though i don't jam lupe as much these days he will Forever and always be my favorite rapper of all time. lupe hands down is one of the most underrated artists of all time. Lupe is one of the best of all times and never got the credit that was owed and earned but Lupe has my support and has had my full attention since 2002. And I will be listening to Lupe till the day I die. A legend in my opinion. Much love fiasco you a king my dude
Reviving Lupe Fiasco is what life really needs, GQ Man Of The Year, Robots and Skateboards
Lupe is ssoo talented and very intelligent, it tells in his music.... keep up the great work and continue letting the truth shine through .
You would think, at my age, that I don't hear or connect to this artform. I do. I hear everything that is said and played. Art has no age. Love this.
Nostalgia from like 07,08
Well all who appreciate good uplifting and strong lyrics with meaning. I cannot stress this or say it enough.... STOP BEING BABIES GROW UP BE RESPONSIBLE AND TAKE TIME OUT OF YOUR LIFE/DAY, & encourage someone to be who you see them as or just do as you expect to be done to the ones you LOVE THE MOST IN LIFE.
Gah damn! Still straight 🔥🔥🔥 I hate that the current music industry don't even know how dope Lupe is. One of the greatest. Easily top 5 fasho and his name never gets mentioned smh. I miss this man. Bouta run back them mixtapes and albums entire week. Who's listening in 2021?
This is easily Lupe's hardest track ever. He's unbelievably underrated.
Dumb it Down ok.
Still top tier 🪖🫡p.s they still don’t get it😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥 This that high I.Q ish🤝🏽
💯this shit will open doors in your brain🤯
That word play at the beginning, Lupe is criminally underrated
Words cannot describe my love and appreciation for Lupe. I knew I had something special when I bought Food & Liquor back in '04. I was a senior in high school then and like the only kid in the whole damn school rocking that album. Lupe is the fucking truth!
'06*
you're right, on that note, I was fresh out of high school, probably 19 years old at the time.
I swear people sleep on intelligence. Lupe is a 🐐
“And wtf is go yard nigga?” Lol almost 15 years later and niggas rockin that shit heavily
Still one of the greatest
Still one of the best at the word play 2022
5 years later and 'the Cool' is still one of the greatest hip hop albums of this era.
Lupe was one of the few new artists I dug when hip hop was in the dark ages (2005-2009). He was pivotal to the genre's turnaround with tracks like this. 👌
when hip hop WAS in the dark ages? IT STILL IS, DA FUCK YOU TALKIN BOUT.
It`s still bad but i think the dark ages are over.Even the most commercial rappers are a bit above trash like Lil Jon and the crunk punks
And look at some rappers like Kendrick! He`s one of the best and he`s one of the most popular around
NejiRulzzz
THE MOST POPULAR RAP SONG RIGHT NOW IS THAT PANDA BULLSHIT
+leerey14 bruh that's not even rap. them artist got no talent
Treetops97 I could name several, u gotta search man
16 years later and this song is still 🔥
Lupe was way before his time. THIS SHOULD’VE RELEASED TODAY IN 2018
The Cool is one of if not the best hip hop records ever written!
LUPE DON'T NEED TO MAKE ANOTHER RECORD. HIS MUSIC ARE FROM THE FUTURE!!!!!! THESE CATS COMING OUT STARTED TO JUST CATCH UP. KENDRICK CANT TOUCH THESE LYRICS
False, Lupe always needs to make a new album. Shits like crack, always need more.
I agree lol
Lupe fans obsessed with kendrick lol
When people say Lupe has changed that is what we are all suppose to do. It is called growth, and once you know one cannot stop knowing and you don't understand why everyone else doesn't see it. Intelligence/genius is a gift and a curse.
I was randomly bought tickets by friends at Keene State College a few years back now. I threw my red hat on stage for you to keep cause you brought the house down with this song. Listen, you are a warrior poet. A MC after mine own heartz. Who dat? That's Lupe.
Welcome to 2022 and Atlantic did make artists dumb it down
💯💯💯. Lupe should have been a superstar without compromising 😢🙏.
damn i first heard this song when i was 14. I'm 19 now and I finally understand every word. Amazing song from one of my favorite artists
This brotha is the real deal
jnefitema yep Do you mind checking out my music?
SAYVON SHAW of Treehouse Arcade checkout my music
This is so nostalgic, OH MY GOD. How did I ever forget about Lupe and this brilliant song?! Wow wow wow.
"Took both pills, when a bloke in a trench coat and the locs in the chair had approached him here" It took me forever to figure out that was a Matrix reference.
that line is sooooo hard. maybe one of the best ever
Honesty never thought about that til you just said that
+B-Mint1994 Bruhhhh.
bro this whole song is a lyrical dissectors wet dream.
well done! of course. Matrix
He is always the best Lupe Fiasco !!!! AWESOME.
+Natalie Zarrin Taraziyan you're beautiful...do you have IG?
dam bruh at least EASE the stalker shit in...
I still get chills when I hear this ish 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Lupe is underrated in my generation. This song pretty much sums up their thought processes in 2015.
2023 and this song is even more relevant today. So fire!!
2019 and this song still holds truth.
One of the best hiphop albums in recent years no doubt
I liked this song when it came out. But I didn’t think that today’s music would sound like it’s dumb down
I remember when I first listened to F&L1 back in high school. I was 15 back in 06. Been fuckin with Lupe every since. The realest and my top 5 favorite artist of all times of any genre. I put Lupe up there with Big and Pac real shit. Idc what anybody says.
Lupe is the greatest lyricist of all time. Best rapper is arguable, best lyricist is a given.
They still sleepin on lupe. He paved the way for alot of rappers.
I love this shit still one of my favorites. They tell him dumb it down so he made a song so ridiculously intricate most people heard it over 20 times and still have no idea what he's saying. There is no rapper alive or dead who could have wrote this. If you think you I'm wrong you're probably one of those people.
I love that Lupe is a rebel
KingZander88 GZA could of wrote it.......
This song was so hard to break down
KingZander88 mos def probably could
Lupe never gets the credit he deserves. Lyrically one of the best out there
Lupe saw it coming and here we are!
Saw what coming... its been going on before this song thats why he rap about it
@@mistanderson The song originally came out in 2007.so yeah he Saw it coming
@@BARON2695 DUDE, it was already going on lol
Lupe is so underrated because most people aren't smart or wise enough!
damn your lyrics are powerful
hey gorgeous
this guy^^
Lyrically speaking this track is on another level, ridiculous from Lupe. Many years ago I downloaded this song on my mums phone cos mine did not have the capability. To this day she still has this on her phone.
This song was real then and even more real with the recent "hits" as of late. I'm in love with the CoCo? Really, all that shit is garbage. We need real hip hop to come back stronger than ever.
Lol
i concur Alec Santi. I heard a lil boy sing " i got baking soda, i got baking soda" and i smh. on a lyrical note. A lot of rap is shallow now a days. a few lyrical minds but a of shallow stuff
Nathan H its all on purpose !
Truth
but, but, baking soda, i got baking soda !
Remember when this classic 1st came out 😊 good ol NYC days 🎼💖💛💚🏂
1 of the greatest rap/hiphop songs of all - time
Still one of the best hip hop tracks to come out. WAY ahead of its time.
Lu is a hybrid of sorts and never changed to fit an era. Lu is nas to younger gen, lu is jayz to younger gen, lu is DOOM to younger gen...Lu had the mental persistence of ice cube but when the brain met pen....
Awe man...
Take a bow OG/Sensei
13 years later. I'm still catching up to Lu. Truly ahead of his time ("The clock is all behind me, now I'm feeling old again" - Lupe Fiasco)
Such a shame his music is so beyond the normal person's comprehension. Guy is underrated as fuck.
^Trust me fam, I feel your pain
King Capital Lupe and STEEZ are all time greats. Sucks he only made one EP capital would have blown up.
+Yaya Bam 100% nigga, #LongLiveSTEELO
Theo Tarver truest shit. i've still never met a true lupe fan in person, had way too many conversations trying to explain the capabilities of lupe and people are deaf to it.
+Theo Tarver ik right only 15 and i still get lupe better than any other crappy ass rapper on da radio now, he's so legit i don't think i ever herd him use profanity
I just discovered Lupe! Better late than never.
This is what rap was supposed to be like right? Anti establishment, hard truth, no unnecessary profanity...this is awesome.
A bit late eh? check out MURALS, and Words I never Meant
koustav de Mural, Strange Fruition, Body Of Work, T.R.O.N (ft Ab Soul), Sittin Sidewayz, Boss Playa, The Instrumental, The Cool, The Coolest, American Terrorist, Go To Sleep... dude has an EXTENSIVE catalog.
lol I forgot how Mural sounds i'm about to check it out again
you had me til the last part lol but yes
Classic right here happy 14 years Going strong
daaamn, the fact that this still bangs 10 years later and is even truer today than it was then is absolutely phenomenal! Lupe go hard 4eva!
this song could have 1000 different interpretations for each line and they all probably apply lol
+Nola504 nerd rap
+Suge Knight lol what a poser the real suge would fuck you up
+Suge Knight u ah Whole Bitch On GDN Don't Come To Chicago
Camkutta FDT you're gay
WTF, all these people talking about how good of a lyricist he is compared to other rappers? None of that matters, just listen to the message!
Atlantic asked him to dumb it down, we got this...and this is the man Royce thought he was in the same building with? El Oh El!
Lupe is one of the best lyricist every touch the mic. Let’s argue..
THE BEST, not one of
Another slept on Pharrell beat 👑👑he was surfing 🏄🏄 on this bih
Except he didn't produce this.
I miss being a teenager. I should have listened.
Fuck,in 2 weeks this song is gonna be 10 years old and probably more relevant than ever
Didn’t realize how insightful is music was. Definitely one of the finest with his wordplay.
If you understand this song.. you understand life... Lupe is a G...
Very dangerous music with a serious message that worries me about this world thank you lupe for speaking up on this and not been a coward
To be fair, Kendrick and Lupe collab would be FIRE. What we need right now 😭
this is why i love hip hop. this whole song is pure genius. music you have to think about to understand and appreciate. not just a catchy hook and a bunch of watered down lyrics.
