  • Want a Land Cruiser in America? The Lexus LX is your only choice. Of course, that's not really an issue since the LX has outsold the Land Cruiser in the USA for ages. For 2022 the LX gets a ground-up redesign with a new frame, new body, new engines, transmissions, seats, interior, everything. I asked an engineer if anything was shared with the outgoing model and was told "maybe some screws." So there you go for the doubters in the crowd, the LX is all-new, but is it any good? Let's find out!

My dad told me that Toyota stopped selling the Land Cruiser in America because the Toyota Sequoia is Toyota's big SUV segment model, for the North American market.. It's based on the Tundra pickup platform, and both Sequoia and Tundra are built in North American facilities, exclusively for the North American market (Canada and the US).. So it obviously makes more sense than having the Sequoia and 300 Series competing for the same segment on the same lot..... Even North American consumer demand for the 300 Series can't change the decision, because with the Sequoia being based on the Tundra chassis, Toyota has everything to build it already in North American manufacturing plants, so will be saving a lot of money!!... The Land Cruiser is built in Japan, so has to be shipped to the US to be sold... Makes sense to me!
Before my father retired, he held a pretty significant role with Toyota Motor Corp Japan, as did my grandfather and my father's grandfather etc, dating back to when before Toyota sold cars... So I have learned a lot about Toyota, over the years! Lol... However i don't know if the new LX can be equipped to be as off road capable as the 300 Series GR Sport, with front and rear lockers etc... I'd buy one, if yes.

@@rich7447 This has nothing to do with sales numbers.. Toyota has had this planned for years... Import taxes make the price of the LC too high in North America.. They stopped selling the LC in Canada, back in 1996, and made it clear the 200 Series was the last one the US would get.. Sequoia shares Tundra manufacturing parts and facilities, so was planned to be the sole North American full size SUV, long ago.. Cheaper, no import tariffs, and built in Texas... Toyota is an "affordable" brand, and Lexus is their Luxury brand, so they sell it to Americans as an LX lol

@@rich7447 The GX is a mid-sized SUV that is the western version of the Japanese sold Prado, and has nothing to do with the LX or the full sized segment.. It is irrelevant actually.. Also I'm Japanese and my father worked for Toyota in Japan and the US, from my childhood until my teens.. You have no idea what you are talking about... Toyota was always cancelling the North American sold Land Cruiser, after the 200 Series gen.. Import tariffs make them too costly, when badged as a Toyota.. Rebrand it as a Lexus and people are willing to buy it for that type of money and more, because Lexus is a "luxury" brand.... Why would Toyota want to continue to sell 2 full-sized segment SUVs under the Toyota badge, competing with each other, and confusing potential new buyers?... The Sequoia is cheaper to manufacture and sell in the US because it is built in the US.. Again, this was always Toyota's plan, for nearly 2 decades, and nothing to do with sales number
Anyway, you don't know anything about Toyota, or business models

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 Před 2 lety

@@lunamaria1048 Your argument is that the LX is too expensive to import from Japan. The GX is built in the same factory as the LX/Land Cruiser 200, is not significantly smaller (LC200 was 3" in longer than the GX and has always been small in the Full size SUV segment) and is at a price point that makes it competitive (about $5k more than a US built 4Runner). So it is not the tariffs that pushed the price of the LC200 up to the $85.665 (2021) MSRP starting price (vs the 2021 LX 570 at $86,930).
The way Toyota priced these two vehicles makes the Lexus more appealing to most consumers which is why it sold more (that whole perceived value thing).
Lexus has only been around for a little over 3 decades. If this was the plan why would Toyota delay for a vehicle that sells less than 4,000 a year in the US?
Toyota is a company that is notoriously cagey about their plans and rarely shares anything that isn't imminent outside of their core leadership in Japan.
You have no idea what I do and do not know. However I am pretty confident that a person who takes their YT name from cartoon that wasn't around 20 years ago has very little insight into the long term plans of a Major Multinational that long ago.

For example, the 2021+ GLE can tow 7700lbs but has a less than 1100lbs payload which assuming a 600 lbs tongue wt gives less than 600lbs for passengers and cargo in the car. Adding insult to the injury is there are some news roaming around that production of several models are ceased for undefined time, issue seems to be mechanical and in the basic design of engine which needs complete change in its design.
New platform seems to be good but this time Lexus/Toyota cheaped out with plastic covers underneath the truck, aluminium in suspension area, and above all going with twin turbos is huge eye brow raiser
It need premium 91 fuel which will compensate the fuel average cost as outgoing models require regular fuel
The only thing that is going in its favour is touch screens front rear and apple android support and getting rid from controls in central rear console
Old navigation control for infotainment was a mess, and sinking seats is also a good addition
But most of them are cosmetic arrangements, engine mechanical design issue is serious issue because no software can manage it they need individual shafts on the head chamber rather than having a single huge big piece and i dont know what they gonna do with Twin Turbos.

Interesting vehicle. It seems as though Toyota took the best things about the Land Cruiser, put some nice interior touches on it and a new grill and back end and decided to call it the new LX 600. It definitely isn’t as luxurious as the navigator or Escalade but I’m sure it will last for 1,000,000 miles. For the money Lexus IS asking for this however I’d go for the Toyota equivalent or one of the European options.

It depends on the consumer. Buyers in this market either go for leased or short-term ownership of Range Rover's or Germans and Escalade, or for long-term and drive it for 200k+ miles before selling it. Don't know about in the US, but here in the middle east (one of the biggest market for LX) they sell like hotcakes because they are just so well built and tough for harsh environment here. While it does cost $86,000, its easily justifiable as this car will far outlive its competitors and you get your moneys worth in low running costs as well as higher resale value. Our 13 year old Land Cruiser is still driving like a tank and never spent a penny on mechanical repairs other than basic maintenance. Its easy to find LC's as well as LX's with 400-500k km selling for like $15-20k because they will still drive to wherever you want. Even with all the money the locals have here there's always at least one Land Cruiser/LX as a daily in their garages. They usually don't drive Rovers after they're older than like 6-7 years max.

The Toyota equivalent was not significantly cheaper. The two vehicles were priced so competitively that 75% of LC200 platform buyers in the US opted for the Lexus variant.
