Three Dog Night, the chillest rock band of the 70âs. Every song a crowd pleaser! âShambala,â âOne,â âBrickyard Blues,â âThe Show Must Go On,â âIn The Country,â âLiar,â âJoy To The World,â soooo many greats!
Iâll second Shambala!
I haven't thought of "Brickyard Blues" in years.
There's a really fun video of them doing The Show Must Go On that I like to watch when I need a smile.
@@kencliff9914 I'll third Shambala!
That tune rules.
Brad & Lex, you'll love their "Shambala", "Black & White" and "One"!!
Three dog night, big part of Radio days.
Also their song Out in the Country.
âPieces of Aprilâ.
Shambala gives such a feel good vibe.
Out In the Country.
This , in my opinion, is one of the greatest songs ever written. Originally by Hoyt Axton and covered by many including Three Dog Night, Elvis and Waylon Jennings. My favorite will always be the original, but they're all great.
Hoyt Axton... I remember when he was on WKRP. I should dig further.
Three Dog Night has better songs though.
@@MusicMissionary Knew him as a kid. His oldest son graduated H.S. two years after me. Nice guy, and Hoyt was really easy going and kind. He gave my friend his first electric guitar when my friend had started playing guitar. I started playing drums at the same time and we of course started a band, but it was just fun. We were only thirteen or fourteen, so gigs were usually high school picnics and suchlike.
Axton has a bunch of great songs. Nazareth does a cool cover of his song Busted.
Hoyt was a pretty prolific songwriter.
"Eli's Coming" and "Shambala" are both _seriously_ "take-you-to-church" songs by Three Dog Night that I'd love to see you react to!
This reaction made me smile as usual. Three dog night was one of those bands that it seems like every song they did was just fun to listen to and move to. What a great band.
The best Three dog night song ever IMO. You have to turn it up when this song comes on.
Country music singer Hoyt Axton wrote both this song, and Joy to the world, for the band.
He also wrote Steppenwolf's "The Pusher".
@@padfolio Hoyt also wrote "No No Song" for Ringo Starr in 1975.
@@padfolio As well as Snowblind Friend, been a fan of Hoyts song writing for ever.
â@@amb2745if you go to a town first time. Play the no no no song. The regulars will determine if you can score blow.
This one is so sultry in the beginning! Iâve always loved their harmonies. So many fun songs.
A beautiful, calming song they have is Out In the Country
Ha ha ha. Love this song.
Brad, just sitting staring at a dark screen.
Lex grooving.
Too funny.
Team Lex on this one all the way. How do you keep from bopping your head in that groove?!
My favorite by 3DN is "Mama told me not to come" a song written by Randy Newman for Eric Burden in 1966 but covered by 3DN @ 1970.
Brad and Lex reacted to it with Lex's Mom.
My first Album. Three Dog Night with Never Been to Spain. You picked a winner
They had so.... so many hits... and great albums.. Saw them on their reunion tour in 84..,,. its was amazing how well they pulled it off...
I made this lyric video! Love from Oklahoma to yall Brad & Lex!!!
Cory Wells sure could sing. Added such grit to the sound of this band.
"Black & White" is a must listen from Three Dog Night. There is too much hate in our world right now, & we need to spread the positive message of that song! It was a #1 hit in 1972.
Amen dude â
In grade 5, we studied the song and meaning, probably one of the best lessons I learnt in school. âźïž
Underrated comment!
Chuck Negron, Cory Wells and Danny Hutton had voices that blended perfectly yet each had his own very special and unique style when singing lead. Three Dog Night was my favorite group.
song is simply about being happy where you are in life no matter where that is
This is a song where it doesn't really matter what the lyrics are, you just groove to the music.
My favorite was, "Out In The Country". A soothing refrain that will calm the nerves.
Itâs one of those songs that as a young Metal Head , I always acted like I was too cool to like , but secretly knew all the words to and often sang out loud while doing chores alone
Lex ur such a free spirit. I'm 62 years old and I grew up with my dads music Opera & the crooners of 50's & 60's. He was from Italy and my mom was a southern bell. Grew up in Kentuky. Her music was the groovy 60's & country. My whole teenage years was in the 70's. To me the best decade ever. But I get u both. You understand the music easily. Which is rare. Keep it up and I'll be tuning in.
Wife here..Been listening to this alot lately.., Great song!!..I think it's the steel guitar that gives it a Country sound..He's "slick"..well..said..Brad..!!
One of my all-time favorite songs of all time. It will always remind me of being at my best friend's (RIP) house and playing cards all night long drinking iced tea with Spearmint Schnaps. Chuck Negron's voice can just carry you away. Love 3 DN!
Great choice. I Saw Three dog Night and the James gang in Akron Ohio in June of 1972. it doesn't matter what channel your radio was on, Three Dog Night was on it in the early seventies. great reaction!!! keep that 70s music and metal coming!!
I loved this band. They were huge in the late 60's to the mid 70's. My favorite songs are Celebrate and Easy To Be Hard. You should react to both of them.
"Easy to be Hard" is fantastic.
Lex is worth watching every time!
A little trivia. One of the writers of this song, his mother wrote Heartbreak Hotel for Elvis Presley. Elvis also performed this song in Concert during the 1970s.
I saw Brad smile when they said "they sure no how to use it" the 2nd go round.đ€Łđ
A real groover --dancin, drinkin, and chillin-- Love it
Listening to some of my old favorites is just so much better with that ear to ear grin that Lex has. Classic.
Keep on going! Three Dog Night was one of the best bands of the 60s/70s. They had 3 lead singers and cranked out hit after hit.
so glad I got to see these guys back in the 90s at a county fair, they played with Steppenwolf and I was pretty high on acid at the time...was a great time to be alive...lol
This was by far one of my favorite songs when I was a child.. still is. Love the change ups, the singing and thereâs something about the sound of the guitar, driving, powerful, but held back, restrained
And donât forget âCelebrateâ. Great harmonies. They dominated pop music for a few years. A guilty pleasure. Happy Fatherâs Day!âïžâ€ïžđ¶
"Stopped and got Slushees at the gas station." That's the detail I'm here for. I can picture it. Great reaction. Thanks for sharing.
3 Dog Night had a great run. They deserve their bulletpoint in music historyâŠ.
"Pieces of April"
"Family of Man"
"An Old Fashioned Love Song"
"Night in the City" (a Joni Mitchell cover)
Yes!! I had completely forgotten about Pieces of April. Great tune!!
Cory Wells... one of the best voices ever.
Three Dog Night. " One" is a must to listen to. Black and White also. These guys are amazing. Proud to say I grew up with this great music.
Great song! One of my favorites! Great reaction!
"Black and White", "Joy to the World", "Old Fashioned Love Song" are a few more great songs by Three Dog Night. đ„°
I was a senior in the late 70s in a small Texas town. Besides the parking lot behind Jack-in-the-Box we hung out in a park ... dark, off the road under the trees, radios blasting. I can SO see Lex there, hanging out and grooving on the tunes. I officially designate you one of the "cools".
Three Dog Night had 3 lead singers and their songs always gave you an uplifting vibe. They were HUGE in the 70s, so many hit songs. ONE is my favorite, but Black and White is killer too.
Three Dog Night had 3 singers who took turns taking the lead with their songs. They were absolutely huge with lots of big hits when they were making music but for some reason classic rock stations rarely if ever play their music. I've never quite understood why that is. Joy to the World (not the Christmas song) was one of their biggest hits.
As an Okie, the late great Hoyt Axton wrote this song and Joy to the World, So I have a place in my heart for those songs.....great reaction.....
As well as The Pusher, Snowblind Friend, the No No Song, and Della and the Dealer and Cat named Kalamazoo.
That guy was or is the most unknown artist of 60s,70s,80s. He was just 20 21 ran into. The highway men guys, cash , I think Bob Dylan was one who saw his talent. He ended up in Hollywood fast lane and his Oklahoma spirit got him off track. He righted the ship and the guy is playing at Royal Albert Hall in London. Not bad for a kid from Oklahoma. He wrote pusherman for Steppemwolf. Then gave Dog the joy to the world song. I can't see zeppelin or stones bringing joy to the world with hermon making you joyful.
Music back in our day was SO eclectic....It was truly music. Glad y'all found The Night... đ
Sweet! "Never Been to Spain" was a top ten hit for Three Dog Night in 1972. It's my favorite song of theirs. Waylon Jennings notably covered the song as well. His "Live in Texas - September 1974" version is worth checking out too. Three Dog Night featured three great vocalists fronting a great rock-funk-soul band circa 1970. They ruled pop radio in the early seventies with over twenty top forty hits including three number ones. When you're ready for more from Three Dog Night, check out some more of their songs -- "One", "Shambala", "Eli's Coming", "Celebrate", "Out In The Country", and "Black & White", "Try a Little Tenderness", and "Ain't That A Lotta Love" among others that you haven't checked out already.
My favorite Three Dog Night song...deserved a much longer fade/outro IMO...but this track still instantly improves my mood.
Always loved their version of this song. Even though it sounds simple, it's not an easy song to sing Imo. The first verse is quite and mellow, but then they crank up the volume and intensity for the rest of the song.
Easy To Be Hard is next for you. JUST A FABULOUS BAND! As fabulous as your reaction!
True story, I've never been to Spain, never been to England. Never been to heaven. Been to Vegas and needles. I've been to Oklahoma. I was born there, but I don't remember. Needless to say, I love this song!
One of my favorite TDN tunes!!! đ
It's a country song written by Hoyt Axton, awesome song. I sing it many times a month unprompted when I'm doing stuff.
You guys are great, I enjoy watching you guys, Three dog nights, Dr Hook, and the band, or three of my all-time favorite garage bands because they can play anything country rock blues and soul thank you for your reaction black and white is a very good song too
I saw Three Dog Night in concert in 1972. They put on one heck of a show. Great reaction to a great song!
Agreed, a great song. What made this great band very successful was 3 great singers. Cory Welles, Chuck Negron and Danny Hutton. Their first I believe was Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding. Cory was on lead was phenomenal. My favorites are this, Shambala, Easy to be Hard, Eli's Coming and Joy to the World. Had more tho. Keep up the good work
Eliâs coming is a favorite of mine, but itâs written for a tenor, and Iâm a baritone;(
Thanks for reminding me of Easy to be Hard. That one goes deep in the soul. Eli's Coming is a powerhouse song. Love, love, love Three Dog Night.
Love TDN! They have so many great songs. â€â€â€â€â€
This is drivin' in the car, nice day, windows down, head up, singin' out loud! Enjoy!
Random. In 1995 or so, I was leaving a mall as it was closing and 3 dog night had some sort of benefit concert at the Silverdale mall outside of Seattle. I stood outside the door and listened to them for a good 30-40 min.
Agreed with the other comments âOne of the greatest songs ever â. !!!
They were my favorite band when I was a youngster.
Mike Allsup's solo is what really makes this song, IMHO. Pretty smooth vocals too.
"Never been here, never been there" okay Brad cracked me up this time.
Something very soothing watching a young woman rockin' out to a classic song from the 70s. You would have fit right in with the flower children of the 60s-70s!
My dad used to sing this in his band back in the 70s and 80s.
They jamming at the end.
The best advice that I ever got from music was from this band. They told me, quite truthfully, that Jermiah... was a bullfrog! Greatest thing you can ever say to anyone.
Hey you two..... 4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60âs Psychedelic Era Trust meâŠ. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song.
âTIME HAS COME TODAYâ- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, then Live. PLEASE and Thank You. 1,595,589 views
so far. YOU will like it too
I loved this song, way back when! Great time to grow up!
Sounds country because it was written by Hoyt Axton. Good ear Lex.
Great song from my distant youth. And there is so much great music from then up to today that I can't keep track of all of it. But watching y'all listen to and enjoy some of it always puts a smile on my face.
Until you guys cover these songs, I forget 90% of the real great tunes that ever played across the airwaves of an FM radio.
Favorite of 3 Dog Night remains their cover (all songs are cover) of Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness. Especially done live. Cory Wells vocals are worthy of an Otis cover.
You go Lex get into that music you can tell Brad is just busting at the seams
Love it when a song gets Lex boppin.
3 lead singers ! 2 drummers! Chest Fever!
What a joy to watch the greatest of Lex getting happy and dancing, And name is Brad also.....so I love u guys. Lol
This is my favorite Three Dog Night song. They have a ton of great music, but the building crescendo throughout the song really rocks my roll.
Thank you for doing this one. Great song!
"Hoyt Axton" wrote this song you should do some more of his "No No Song - Ringo Starr", Lightning Bar - Hanoi Rocks", "The Pusher - Stephenwolf", "Joy to the world - Three Dog Night". Oh yeah and his mother "Mae Boren Axton" co-wrote the song "Heartbreak Hotel - ELvis Presley" which was a big hit.
I had forgotten how good that song is Thank You
I remember listening to them while cruising in my Mustang in the 70's. They always had fun music. Love how Lex gets into the music.
My #1 all time Three Dog Night favorite. Hands down.
God, I love her FIRST reaction
The country lick was a well place emphasis on Oklahoma which is more known for it's downhome country. Love that Lex was feelin' it. I can't sit still through this one either. I grew up on this.
Hey Brad, now you're going to have to go to Spain and get ''slushies''....lol. Great reaction Lex!
I haven't heard this song in years! I'd forgotten how much i liked it.. Thanks for your reaction.
More goodness from the early 70's. So much talent in this band. They were so hot for a few years. Top of the world Ma!
Another Hoyt Axton gem. Great songwriter
Killer Song. Itâs great to have 3 Lead Singerâs all in 1 Band.
You definitely need to check out Three Dog Night: One. My favorite song of theirs.
They have SOOOOOO many great songs. this song, mama told me not to come, liar and many more great songs.
You will love a LOT of their songs. They are awesome!
Like Joy To The World, this was written by Hoyt Axton, who played the father in movie Gremlins.
In case anyone doesn't know, in the line "The ladies are insane there," "Insane" is short for "insanely beautiful" in that context.
Definitely a slang term for beautiful..
You would love their song called The show must go on!!!!
They did so many great songs, you lose count. There's a hidden gem tucked away in their 2nd album: Suitable for Framing. It's a classic blues number called A Change Is Gonna Come. Check that one out!
Listen to pieces of April from three dog night, a beautiful song! You can never go wrong listening to them, they have many hits and out sold the Beatles at one time!
Great song. Lex knows what's up.
A fantastic take on a brilliant Hoyt Axton tune.
And it was a huge hit, along with alot of others, mentioned in the comments by name already ;)
