Alys Rivers being scottish made me happy as a scot ahah you just don’t hear our accents often on these kinda shows so I was really pleased
I LOVED this episode. I think what I loved most was A.) Aemond has consistently been a daemon foil, and now he has officially been set apart in my mind. Daemon has always been a ruthless wild card, but his one limitation was his love of his brother. As much as he disagreed with him and would poke at him, he would never harm him. Aemond has NO limitations now. He would kill his brother.
B.) Cole I think finally is seeing what he created with Aegon and Aemond and he is losing control. He is responsible to a large degree for what they become. He underestimated dragons and he underestimated Aemond.
Added to that last point-Alicent thought she could control Aegon, and Cole thought he could control Aemond. If Aegon lives, he will become even more bitter and untrusting. Aemond even more ruthless. Alicent and Cole have no power over them now.
the actor playing Aemond is fantastic, definitely delivered on the chills this episode

OR as Aegon's partying days are obviously over, maybe he'll gain wisdom during his recovery. Kinda depends on Alicent as she'll be nursing him. She told him he was essentially a puppet king, hence his near-fatal mission to prove himself as a warrior king. Maybe he'll have an opportunity for a new sobriquet: "Aegon the Wise" or something like that.
If he didn't lose his memory due to brain burn, it'll be interesting how he handles Aemond as Prince Regent.

Didnt like Aegon much from just the books but the actor is doing a fantastic job at making him feel like a real complex character. Actually felt bad for him this season, he never wanted any of this.

Thank you for so much common sense! Everyone keeps saying that the prophecy justifies Rhaenyra's actions when in reality, if anything, it mames her actions worse - a war cannot unite anyone, the realm is weaker and weaker by the day, and she would do much more for uniting of the realm if she gave up her claim and tried to impress upon her half-brother the importance of peace, at least tried to. Maybe that is the grand sacrifice. She keeps saying that her father's stance in succession gives her the moral right to "loose horrors", but she never once asks herself a very obvious quesion - if Viserys knew that his choice would result in dead family members, dead dragons, dead innocents and soldiers, what would he say now? She is being selfish, and the prophecy does not soften that what so ever. None of this justifies the Green coup, obviously. But we're talking about Rhaenyra, not them. They all need to go to Harrenhal. Every single one of them. And drink some potions made by Alys to face their demons - the best therapy Westeros seems to offer! Though jokes aside, I'm now so hyped to see what happens to Aemond there and what Alys's agenda is.
Rooke's Rest was phenomenal. It showed SO well how when dragons go to war, no one wins. Both sides have lost massively, with Aemond being the only one who has clearly come out victorious for himself - and the shot of him when he looks down on fallen Melyes and the absolute devastation to all troops, his men and enemies both, with prideful satisfaction just catapulted him into stratosphere of threat. And we needed that to happen. He's terrifying. And seeing Christen feeling this terror when he finds him next to Sunfyre is so satisfying. They all took war to be a game, just like the audience was begging to see cool battles. This episode clarified for everyone - nah, war ain't cool or fun.
yeah, Viserys would be beyond horrified if he could see what happened after his death
The song of ice and fire in this story is part of the Winds of Winter. My guess is the Targaryen part of it dies with Rhaegar. It has been said throughout a Son of Ice and Fire that Rhaegar was obsessed with the prince that was promised prophesy. Which will probably be the reason Rhaegar marries Lyanna in the first place.

I dont understand why the song of ice & fire must be a secret. I really liked it tho when Viserys tells his daughter about the prophecy. It felt grand and epic but in this ep I didnt get that feeling. It felt a bit flat IMO. Surely Rhanaeyra fighting for her brithright is enough. We didnt need her ham-fisted attempt at justifying her actions.
I have seen some ppl question Rhaenys' sacrifice in this ep. They are confused why she doesnt turn and flee from Vhagar. To me its very clear. She isnt going to be humiliated by Aemond. She's a warrior, she volunteered for this mission and she will see it through or die trying.

I have to say, for book readers that have a lot of info and clues about the magic of the trees, the different deities, and tons of theories about what green seers can and can’t do and their motives and possible purposes, I bet the entire Harrenhold scenes must be existing, and I think the scenes are absolutely well shot and acted. Having said that, for non book readers, whom will miss many of the possible clues, these scenes are just mostly confusing and frustrating. We want Daemon to help the blacks get some ground, even for a little bit. 😢

The crippled torturer who's an absolute master at reading people, finding weaknesses, and political maneuvering, @@LienesLibrary he doesn't hold a candle to the real Glokta but I feel like they took inspiration from Glokta in how they chose to portray Larys.

Well, a good reason to fight for the throne is also to stay alive. While Rhaenyra, if not usurped probably wouldn’t have hurt her half brothers, now that they have taken the throne, if she wants to live she has to win the war.
Speaking of people coming up with justifications, enters Otto, when he claims that staging his coup is for the betterment of the Kingdom, when in reality is just for him to keep power.
i also don’t mind the prophecy justification. i understand the use of it, i just think it’s getting a little repetitive? but that might also be bc we just heard it last episode. i think the problem for me personally is that I cannot guess the direction of her arc moving into the second half of this season.
Hopefully Myseria as Mistress of Whispers will step up her game. Seems like at least one of her network would've known One Eye and his aircraft carrier sized Meemaw had left the landing.

I do not know the book, so this thought might be a SPOILER. Anyone think Miss Rivers is feeding Damon hallucinogens? I'm sure the place has big bad curses on it so maybe I'm wrong. Completely agree on the Ice and Fire point, Allicent really passed the "gaslighting yourself into sanctioning violence for your own selfish reasons" baton to Rhaenyra in that secret meeting lol

Outstanding episode. it had everything, epic battle, surprising betrayal, and solid send off to a amazing character. I feel that Daemon should be the king, not Rhaenyra. It feels as if Daemon has prepared for this war for decades, only for him to be relegate to the sidelines. It as if Rhaenyra taking a moment from him. Daemon would have seen the Rook Rest bait. it doesn't help that her council is starting to turn against her and I can’t really blame them. Rhaenyra reign began by sending child to negotiate alliance with the storm lord. Sneaking into King's landing to speak with queen's mother in a ludicrous attempt to stop the war. She gets baited by her teenage brother half her age. People say that Ageon should not be king but neither should Rhaenyra. She has been too slow to act. It feels as if we are missing the point in this conflict. It is not about two rulers fighting for their claims. This war is the result of two people both unworthy of the throne.The end result of the Targaryen dynasty growing too big, too soon while not establishing succession laws ended up being their undoing.
I do not agree at all that Daemon would be a better ruler, he's hot headed, short sighted, and petty. that doesn't make Rhaenyra perfect, far from it, but I do not think Daemon would be a better choice
@@LienesLibrary in times of peace, Rhaenyra would be a better ruler but fighting a war absolutely not. Rhaenyra wasn't trained in tactics or fighting, unable to forge coherent strategy she is getting humiliated by her teenage brother Aemond. He has already killed two dragons at the war inception. That doesn't happen under Daemon. He understands the importance, of striking first and setting the tone early. That is why he lashed out on her season one finale. Her inaction guaranteed a long brutal war allowing the green to strike first putting them on defense.
That was a damn solid episode
My only complaint is that there was no Helaena. Other than that, this episode was stellar.
not the bigget fan of her personally, but she does certainly add a bit of tension and mystery whenever she pops up with her predictions

Loved it, yup - Daemon the greenseer is awesome, HBO is just the best at this, to the degree that it should be illegal for any other studio to have Fantasty rights. At all. If i had a nitpick it would be more of the battle tbh and less lead up talking but, I am a man so, that's hardly surprising.

Whether it was executed well or not, it was not fan service. People are just far too critical of individual points. The failure of the last few seasons wasn't individual points, it was an abandonment of details and effort to make payoffs feel earned.
And this is why u dracrys ur enemies when u have them at ur mercy.
Finally rhneys gets what she deserves for her pacifism.
While I get that argument, it's exactly what Tywin used to justify the Red Wedding: Rather kill a few at a dinner than thousands in battle.
