    Man that line about conflicting oaths was so good, reminds me of Jaime talking about his oaths to King, his father, and his oaths as a knight. Great callback.
    Also "dragoncock" definitely sound like the nastiest std in Westeros 😂

    It was a wonderful premiere! It’s actually insane how they managed to find moments for every single character in the show in various different places/dynamics and it didn’t feel bloated. We were able to have the usual slow paced chatty scenes and even an edge of your seat section at the end like I am really impressed overall and so excited for the rest of the season!

    Overall the episode was very well-written.
    I just dont understand the choice of taking maelor out of the equation.
    I think it would've been better moving forward and would have provided more of a shock.
    "Ohh you want this kid to die, let me kill the other one😅.
    Maybe they did it for time as having another character will pad the runtime for this episode and also for the aftermath.
    But barring that, I think the episode would've been better with Maelor in it.
    What do you guys think?

    I have to say I'm a fan of what they did with Chud and Bleese. Neither Daemon nor Rhaenyra ordered the death of the children, it was yet another "accident". They recklessly released the rats, much like Aemond recklessly spurred on Vhagar.

    • @J_ads2000
      @J_ads2000 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I liked it. Aemond or Aegon being the primary target was speculated in fire and blood anyways. The change people are upset with was not having Helaena choose between her kids.

    How do you feel about them changing the final scene from what is in the book? The scene in the book is far more vicious, cruel and downright awful. This scene was bad but it should have been so much worse.

    • @RTDKRunner
      @RTDKRunner Před 2 měsíci +2

      The book scenes we're retold by unreliable narrators. It is likely the Greens exaggerated the horror

    • @LienesLibrary
      @LienesLibrary  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I think the show has overall been good at being measured and considered in its use of horrific imagery, I appreciate that they don’t do it just to do it, they do it when they feel the story really calls for it or it is necessary or will have the greatest impact, I think the way they did it was horrifying enough, any more might have cheapened it

    So happy you enjoyed it. To be honest, I just can't bring myself to care. I was a huge fan of GoT (until about halfway through season 6) and this is right up my alley, so I should love it. Except, I don't. At the end of season 1 I just didn't care. I failed to connect emotionally with any of the characters. Maybe it's the cast? Maybe it was so dark that I couldn't see any expression on the character's faces? Maybe I have PTSD from GoT? :-) Whatever the reason, I just don't care and that makes me sad.

      I think it's time jumps. The story needs it but it detaches us from the characters. At the same time, there is not much plot to interest audiences in between the big moments of the dance, so they have to rush to retain attention. Being live action makes the jumps even worse with the weird casting changes.
      I just don't think it's a very adaptable story, at least not in this format.

    It was a decent episode, but woof did Ryan Condal really whiff it on that Blood and Cheese ending. Such a letdown compared to the books and definitely did not live up to the hype. Kind of mid episode with a couple of shining acting moments here and there

  • @Fenix-lr6ez
    @Fenix-lr6ez Před 2 měsíci +4

    The episode was so good until the ending.
    I don't want to see a child killed on screen, I'd just like that the child's mother placed a bit more value in him than a collar. And showing right after Criston and Alicent having sex is dumb, we are supposed to be horror-struck by the killing of Jaehaerys, and they show us that. Like what?
    And for me Criston Cole's dead tbh, the only thing going for him is that he at least wasn't a hypocrite. Now he's that as well. Really the writers seem to have no idea how to write him, because in the books he's, imo, one of the top 5 characters.

    My wife and I started the show a couple weeks ago and a few episodes in it just felt off to me. I don’t seem connected to the characters in any way. I don’t care to root or hate any of them. There is a lot of exposition and a lot of telling not showing. Telling us fine if you do it right and creatively. And lastly the pacing ruins the show for me.
    As a fan of Name of the Wind and slower books and stories, time jumps really kill any character development. And with each time jump I become more and more disconnected. I want to sit with these characters and watch things unfold naturally.

    No maester was in the room recording shit so this drives home the banality of evil. The book version was nothing cartoonish sadism. Brutality for the sake of it. This was more practical and straightforward. What they wanted was a d&d style heavy handed shock value bloodlust & gore to score sympathy points for your sports team...instead got an actual bleak, mellow, creeping horror tragedy. Which is what I always wanted from asoiaf. The more purists cope, the more I know it was good.

    • @VinnieMF
      @VinnieMF Před 2 měsíci

      Sadism was the point, here they wanted to whitewash Daemon and didn't go through with it. Putting the whole premise of the choice aside (which was dead from concept) they weakened the scene by having the whole walking around bit, fumbled it with the comical "which one has a penis" and then completely ruined by ending with Alicent riding her pony, all that carried by an actress doing extremely little. It's unfortunate since silent shock can be great but this ended up being a prime limp dick scene - I blame the directing here, not the actress.
      Audio visual media audiences have such low standards it becomes a bit baffling at times.

  • @StanleyMabonga
    @StanleyMabonga Před 2 měsíci +5

    Thought it was a great premiere. Book purists are angry that a woman wasn't tortured on screen. Insanity. I will say that Alicent and Cristen's relationship is still a weird choice for me. Like why?

    • @husskies9700
      @husskies9700 Před 2 měsíci +7

      I don't think they really wanted to see any torture, I think it's more about the Sophie's choice that Helaena has to do in the book that they removed from the show. Being asked which of your kid to have killed in front of you would really have upped the ante dramatically. That being said, I'm personnally fine with how they dealt with it in the show, it was already dramatic enough I feel.

      @@husskies9700 I mean there was a Sophie’s choice. She could have lied about who was the boy. It’s just a toned down choice.

      The story related in House of the Dragon has all the reference material already published for it. There's another book we're waiting for that goes into more Targaryen history in the later years but that has no impact on the part of Targaryen history the show is about, which is strictly the Dance of the Dragons.
