My experience of having owned a few ex-racer, in order of importance, wide leather sighthound collar with return details tag, two metre lead (not cheese/trip wire extending type, no control when a cat appears).
Extensive first aid kit, Hibiscrub, sterile dressing for pads, savlon, adhesive elastic bandage lots, and other stuff, they are very thin skinned and almost hairless, to fast for their own good, I am looking at our hound asleep legs in the air, I can count 5 scares on just one leg without looking to hard but they are great patients.
Tooth brushing daily with meat flavoured dog paste, buy yourself a new brush, the old one will do for the dog.
Wire stripper pliers type nail clipper and a sharp knife, clip the fronts and par the underside, I do this roughly every three weeks, small amount and no bleeding regularly, the quick shrinks back nail nice a stumpy short.
Two waterproof coats, one thin single layer and one for warmth, if you walk briskly and don't stop you don't need a coat at all in any temperature, coats in houses and cars not needed, if your dog pants take the coat off. Coats must confuse their moulting reaction,
kenneled greyhounds have really thick dense hair.
Bedding, keep old duvets fold up put in material sack of some sort, they love then, two around the house and something for the garden also, they can be sun worshippers.
Stuffed toys, ours have never touched them or balls, my view best not to encourage ripping the stuffing out of things, like your soft furnishing.
Spend your money on roast chicken and sausages if want to see a happy greyhound and save for the vet bills.
On a very serious note read up on hyperfibrinolysis syndrome, quiz your vet on it, if they don't know about it and don't prescribe Tranexaminc acid or the like pre and post operational procedures, then take your dog elsewhere.
It's stopped raining now (hence the long comment) time to turf her out of her bed and do some walking, raincoat in my pocket just incase.

Oh yes, I'm still buying more toys and coats! Like a new baby. Mine is 3 months old. Still on the crate and potty training. But he is a joy. Good luck with your boy.

The kongs can be dangerous. Some dogs tongues get stuck in them and they lose their tongue which is basically a death sentence.

Any follow up on Widget? I’m sure there’s a lot to report after three months!
