Hiya! Welcome to my wee channel. In this video, I tell you all about adopting our new greyhound, Lenny. I hope you enjoy this video! It was quite a fun one to make. Back to Animal Crossing soon, I promise!
Please note that I am by no means a videographer. I'm a uni student with an iPhone is all, and so the filming for this video is quite low-quality. Also, I am not an animal behaviorist; I am simply sharing my experiences with you.

Hiya, everyone!
Just a wee update - I really want to make a video about how Lenny has been over the past couple of years. I'll have some time off after I sit my veterinary boards exam in April. He's currently doing well but had a long stay in hospital due developing a septic joint. He's still a bright, happy, hungry boy and he never fails to make us laugh every day.

Whats with the muzzle? Doesn't seem like an aggressive dog.
@@frozencanuck6764could be a comfort thing. Muzzles usually aren't necessary for greyhounds once they become a family pet because they are usually very gentle. But when they're racing they need muzzles so they get used to that and because they are a very sensitive breed that doesn't handle changes in routine well he might feel more comfortable with it on while on a walk. He definitely looks quite comfortable with it on in these clips.

My wife and I have adopted ex racer Greyhounds for almost 20 years and was lucky enough to adopt a whoops puppy, racing pupps are very expensive. Racers know nothing but the runs they live in,dirt for floors and a few handlers that work them. They almost universally love affection though if you go to the farms. Grey's zooming are a great experience in your living room,just pull your legs up to save the tailwhips. They love to talk and howl with reason. Always gravitate to the couch, neat to hear Lenny felt comfortable on yours the second night. They can play rough with the other dogs ,they are so fast,you just have to control it when necessary. Lenny is a beautiful white with spots,never have I seen that much white.
I can tell you a big part of the reason he made quick progress... he's found a family who sees the best in him and is giving him the love he deserves. None of this happens by accident. I hope they are both doing well!
I've had 5 greyhounds. I had to teach them all to walk up the stairs. There is no sweeter creature than a greyhound!
My son adopted a retired racehound too. It took her a month or two to be acquainted with humans. Lian likes people, places, and getting petted. Lian loves attention. Good luck.

I love that u took in dogs that weren’t necessarily “loved” by there owners anymore and u can see that he loves u guys and is learning his way!
Had retired dog from Wimbledon in the seventies,and one from Hove in 2005, absolutely 💯 legendary pets,I'd recommend to all nice guys to re-home,they deserve the very best,as do all dogs, but I adore the greyhound.xx
Greyhounds are so cool. They are so laid back. They enjoy being with their human.
Rescue dogs are awesome and thank you for being such an awesome dog mom.
Rescue greyhounds are just the most wonderful! We saved our Molly girl back in December and it’s been so rewarding watching her grow and develop her personality. Best of luck to you all in giving Lenny his forever home!

Wow Billie you have all my respect! I too often see people mindlessly get a dog without knowing the first thing about raising one, but you have so much knowledge about how to train a dog WITH issues. It makes me so happy that Finch and Lenny now have a happy, loving and caring home with you and Jack! Give them some cuddles from me :)
Oh my, your boy looks just like our dog. He sadly passed away at the age of 13 just a couple of weeks ago and seeing this video almost made me cry. I miss him so so much. Cherish every moment you get to spend with him. I’d give anything to have my boy back with me.
We have had rescue dogs and fosters my entire adult life, including a retired racer! Thank you for the honest and open video regarding the adoption of “pre-owned” fur babies and how they acclimate. Both of your babies are so cute and look very happy. ❤️

Greyhounds do their own thing- leave music on - that will help with separation anxiety-he’s been abandoned twice in his mind-so time will also help- and yes greys very athletic- so don’t leave anything in his sight!

Gorgeous! That’s very similar to my own experience. I adopted a rescue, seven years ago. He‘s a Parson Russell Terrier, who was abandoned in France, and obviously, he‘s from a hunting line. Fortunately, I didn’t know anything about that, when I first got him, I simply fell in love with him, and love wins, even if things get pretty challenging. He‘s a people’s dog, but very insecure when it comes to meeting other dogs, which often led to barking or jumping at them, and it took me a while until I realized, that actually, he‘s scared of them, especially when they are taller than him. Going on walks with the same two females was a game changer. He made friends with them, was so much calmer, apparently he felt protected, having them around. So once I discovered that he had a soft spot for a collie type of females, I embarked on looking for a companion for him. We went to see several rescues, until we found one, he instantly bonded with. She is the complete opposite: Not a people’s dog at all, very scared of humans, but pretty easy around other dogs. She was returned three times from people who wanted to adopt her, especially because she’s difficult with smaller kids. Mr Terrier brought her out of her shell, while she managed to calm him down a bit in the house. Being a Canaan dog, she needs plenty of „quiet now“ in the house. We‘ve had her for almost four years now, and while I didn’t need a second dog for my personal happiness, my first dog absolutely did. Life is often easier, when you’re not alone, be you a human or a dog 😉

You will never go wrong with a sight hound. I have three whippets and love them all so much. Lenny is a very handsome boy too.
Three years ago I got a dog and he was this stray dog they found in Mexico. We named him Joey and have loved him since. He had baaad separation anxiety. We went on this trip for 2 weeks and he pooed all over the rug we had(we did leave someone to take care of him). He would bark at everyone. But, he's better now and not like that any more. This past summer he has treated me more as an equal and I have a special bond with him now😁🐶
I can’t believe that the first family returned him after the first week because he was a little stubborn and stopped at shops?? Since beginning of February we have a rescue dog from Romania and the first month he would stop every time when we passed pedestrians (We think he was looking for his foster mummy). He also had really bad diarrhea at the beginning due the stress of adjusting to a new home. But now after this first month he was not doing any of this anymore at all. The dog first needs to adjust to it‘s new home, it can take a while.

God, he’s beautiful! 1) leave a radio on a dog relaxation channel 2) leave him a shirt with your scent on it. This helped my Whippet a ton when I left.

You seem to be very aware and interested in dealing with whatever abnormalities you may encounter with a greyhound. Lenny is very lucky to have had you, and Finch to help him adjust.

What you said about having 2 dogs is like having 1 is 100% true!! When we got our kitten Oliver almost a year ago, it was a bit of a challenge to have him fit in with our other cat Onyx (rip sweetie), but when we got cat 3 (Oscar), it was actually pretty easy and absolutely goes along with what you mentioned.
Also Lenny is absolutely precious 🥺 you're doing so good with training him so far :DD

Adorable greyhound! This showed up in my CZcams recs (given my watch history lol) and I’d love to know how he’s doing. They can take time to acclimate for sure. One of mine is almost 11 and his stubbornness never went away completely 🙈 Hope you are well! Exam season is definitely tough!
My Mum and I had a Lurcher (Greyhound x Collie) for almost nine years and a Greyhound for almost a decade. They were off lead hundreds of times over the years in non enclosed areas without incident and there were no requirements to muzzle them (again no incidents as both had excellent bite inhibition). We now have another Greyhound (who we adopted on the 24th of September of this year) and she does not need a muzzle either. We are still working on getting her to the point of being off lead in non enclosed areas. I also know of plenty other Greyhounds who can be off lead and unmuzzled. I am sick of adoption groups/rescues who insist on all Greyhounds needing to be leashed and muzzled in public (and they seem to be more prevalent in the US and Canada - we are in the UK) . It is grossly unfair to the dogs and it sad that will be required of beautiful and mild mannered Lenny for the rest of his life.

I adopted a pit bull a few years ago and it’s so exciting but a lot of work! He’s so happy and healthy now, much better than being left at the shelter of course :) Wishing you luck with your new dog!

Congratulations on your new fur baby! We adopted our retired racer last March. She is a beautiful wonderful love bug. Her name is Rainy and she had been racing in Daytona Beach Florida. I wish you many many greyt years with Lenny!

He is beautiful I have had two greyhounds and will get another one next week My 2nd greyhound Winstin passed away 6 weeks ago at 13 years old. My 1st greyhound Maxmillion passed away 7 years ago at 14.5 years old. Maxi would never stand to be left at home so I would have to get dressed outside. Winstin loved the attention although he did not panic when I would leave. Both of them were freaked out over stairs and they never were good with tiled floors as they would lose their footing I have not stoppied crying over Max and now Winstin

We've had her for 2 years and she would bite herself when no one was in the room( we have cameras in the living room) , but she has gotten better!

Beautiful, what some people don't realise is that retired Greyhounds are very curious and are let free when retire... Lost my boy Cecil 2 years ago (retired and 3rd time rescue after abandonment)... he was 13.5 years old, RIP sweetheart.
Heck! My dog never went though what Lenny has and she stops at every storefront, nearly every house, she'll even hop her front paws up onto walls to see inside people's gardens, she's nosy as hell, I find it pretty funny personally.
