- Sometimes you've just gotta cross something off the bucket list! This was actually our second visit up to the locations from Home Alone, starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, Catherine O'Hara, and John Heard. We had not done it since starting the CZcams channel, so it was great to get back up there. This time we added a couple more spots. We visited the usual locations, we got into the gym where the sets were built and broke down exactly where everything was, and attended a Home Alone screening event in the church. This movie is a childhood favorite for many and many videos have been done on the locations, so I hope enjoy our take!

Ever since I was a kid I was obsessed with finding movie locations. There is a surreal feeling of seeing something you know so well, in person, knowing that that iconic moment was there and you are in it.
I agree. I think that's what first drew me to London as a teenager. Felt like magic to be stood in those places for some reason.
I'm 40 years old and it was only through your video that I found out that most of the scenes were shot in the pool I'm shocked I liked your statement about your passion at the end of the video that you love trips and visiting film locations rub what you do because you do it very much well, first of all, you are very accurate to the details, for which I appreciate you, greetings.
For me, finding a movie location spot... It's bc in the movie you feel like your are actually there, but you know it's not real real.. Until you find the place. Then you are actually there where it all happened! You feel like you're a part of it.. like it was real
One of the things I forgot to mention is the feeling of watching a movie again but after you've visited the locations. It's like getting to see the movie from a whole new perspective and I always get a kick out of that part of it!
@@GoingtotheMovies I totally understand 🙃
Your comparison shots are the best I have ever seen! You did an excellent job. Thank you for making me relive my childhood! Inspecting and analyzing the location makes you appreciate the work and fully immerse yourself in the story. 😍
Thanks for the nostalgia friend. You showed thoroughly during filming and in real time. This is my most favorite movie. I always watch. I think it was not necessary to touch anything and leave everything as in the movie. Hello everyone from Kazakhstan.
Hello to Kazakhstan! Thank you for watching, Nurik!
I just wanted to say thank you for recording this amazing film location. We are so excited about the location where the movie was made. Also, thank you for being so soft-spoken and detailed with the address. I have not seen anyone more detailed than you. I encourage you to continue this journey with your wife. I hope you visit my favorite movie location of "The Breakfast Club" high school in a similar kind of location."
Banging mate that is the best home alone location video I’ve watched cheers for your hard work and bringing it to us! Respect 🙌🏻🙌🏻🤟🏻🏴
Thanks so much, Alex! Shoutout to England!
8:35 is the money shot. Reminds me of a water plug in Toronto
I call it pizza cracks
Love that the neighbors took some clips to enjoy later. I can see why they'd move the garage, probably gives a bit more privacy. I had no idea they used a school for the set. This is all super interesting, so glad I just found your IG this morning and even more happy that you're on YT ❤
Great video very detailed. Those gym pictures from when they filmed are crazy cool.
Thank you my good man.
The locations matter to us because they allow us to connect with a feeling or experience. Great movies do more than entertain us. They can transform or change us by seeing things from a new perspective or inspire us or give us hope. To think.. .this is WHERE it happened and I am standing in that spot right now! I'm a big fan of "The Shawshank Redemption" and the guide took us to the very spot where Andy tells Red that you either "get busy living or get busy dying”. I think about that quote all the time.. this is WHERE it happened. it's like hallowed ground. And it's not too different than connecting with our history and our past by visiting historic sites. That's my 2 cents. Thank you for all you do in finding these locations.
Well said.
I completely agree!
I just got so nostalgic. I grew up in Evanston, IL which is like a few miles from this spot and yet I never visited the home alone home.
It’s worth a visit around Christmas time!
@@GoingtotheMovies Ahh will do
Your comparison shots are better than any others I've seen, and I watch a lot of filming location vids. Well-done!
Thanks, Jay! Doing those are my favorite part of the editing process.
I visited this one once. But you did another great work with lots of informations.
Thanks, Herve! Always appreciate your support and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Another great tour! We've been here twice, but will add some of the locations this Christmas. Thanks for the help!
One of my favorite series of movies
Phenomenal job lining up the shots of then and now!
Great job!!! Thanks!
First. Watching now . Will finish comment when done watching. Hold steady.
Holding...

Best video ever love love thank you 💖💖
Thank you for this video! It was so well done and I enjoyed every minute of it. It made my night. I just subscribed based off a shout out from a buddy of yours in a comment section of another video. I can’t wait to dive into the rest of your content. Thanks man! 🙌🏼
Love it!!!! I totally agree with you about why we love filming locations - the adventure, travel, seeing how much or often how little things have changed; and every ONCE in a while that “eureka, I found it!” Amazing video, Ryan!!!!
Thanks, Dana! Movie locations add a whole new dynamic to traveling. We've found so many great places to visit that we would have never otherwise experienced!
I love how you do the overlay showing what it looked like in the movie. Very cool. Great job on the video!
Absolutely fantastic video, thank you for this! I’ve been to the house before once but it had a large construction fence around it that you couldn’t see through. Good to see that it’s now finished and people can walk by. Keep doing what you’re doing, dude!
Thanks, C J! I'm guessing that was around 2017?? Glad you liked the video!
Just started watching your videos, i like the comparison and shot match up! Thank you
Thanks, I appreciate that! More 90s stuff on the way soon!
As usual amazing job! We love filming locations because we love history.
Very true, David! Thank you!
Amazing video! Thank you so much. I love Home Alone 1 and 2. Takes me back to my childhood. I'm the same age as Macaulay Culkin so I related to the film's massively.
👌🙏🏻
Awesome video as always Ryan!
Thank you for the support, Randy! Looking forward to meeting up again!
I really enjoyed this. I'm going to share it. I can't believe you don't have way more subscribers. If you keep up this quality work I can see you being a large channel. Thanks for this video. It's one of the best movies of my life as I'm in my mid 30's so it was a childhood favorite and remains to be. I've always been very interested in movie shoot locations. I've been to many of the locations used in Forrest Gump. Keep up the great work!
You killed it on this one Ryan, well done. I especially loved the shots inside the school, that’s what really sets your video apart from others that have done this movie. And I 100% agree with many of the points you made about why people like you and I do filming locations. I know some people don’t understand it, but for those of us who do, it all makes perfect sense. For me personally, I also find it connects me to the movie in a much different way than simply watching it over and over or memorizing lines. To walk and stand in the exact spots that these movies were filmed really adds an entirely new layer for me personally. I’m sure you agree.
Absolutely agree, buddy! I feel like it really connects you in a way that's unexplainable. Movies man... (We've got to meet up this year! I'm hoping to get a lot more videos out in 2023 compared to this year)
I love your detail you find and show, well done
Best detailed home alone location video. Awesome!
Hell yes Ryan!! Watching as soon as I'm waking here! Such a killer job man, dying to hit these spots one day!
You have to visit. You will LOVE them!
This one was spot on btw! Keep getting better and better! Thanks for taking us there
Thanks, AVC-Works!
Had to comment again, YOU HIT IT OUTTA THE PARK!! Well spoken, heartfelt and informative 👏 had to watch a couple times.
Thank you for the support, brother! 🙏
Great job!! Loved it!
Thanks, buddy!
This is the best one I have seen. Very informative. Glad you showed the old kitchen and the aerial shot.
Thanks, Adam! Glad you enjoyed it!
The production quality on your vids are really good! What a great watch! Thanks
Thanks, Steven! Glad you like them!
So cool! I love the then and now comparisons the most and these were some of the very best 👏👏👏
Thanks, Tim! I love doing those!
Very interesting ❤thanks
Fantastic filming location video! Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Thank you! Merry Christmas!
Another great video! Looking forward to more
Thanks, Quiz Chris! More definitely on the way!
Classic film. Way to bring your audience along and I really liked the structure. Story is king. Another excellent job.
Thanks so much, Cary!
They updated it nicely, I understand changing the driveway and garage.
Donegal man here , found your channel today and now I am hooked ❤ 🇮🇪 another favourite film of mine . Best wishes from Ireland
Thans for filming the locations. I hope i can visit Chicago to see this house. Greetings from Holland.
Thanks!
I love this movie
in some of those last photos with your wife you remind me of oberyn martell
very nostalgic video for me, brings back good and not so good memories, that being sad it was a delight to watch a very thought out perfectly made video on the locations of a iconic film
Never got that comparison before, but I’ll take it! 😆 Thank you for the kind words on the video. It is much appreciated!
Yes, New Trier High School for the film crew and production offices. It's not surprising because this school was one of the schools John Hughes used in his famous 80s teen films. And again, Hughes proudly filmed repeatedly in towns outside of Chicago, as well as in Chicago. A great video and project - a treat for Home Alone and John Hughes fans! Thank you!
Another random thought: Another cool thing, I would imagine, about figuring out filming location matchups is the same satisfaction as when playing "find the hidden item(s) in the picture" puzzles.
It can definitely feel like a puzzle at certain locations
Great video brother your old vs new comparison shot was really amazing thanks for making this video home alone is my favourite Christmas movie love from India.
Excellent work. You are the main man.
No, YOU are the man, Thackmeister. Thank you!
New subscriber. Found you through a comment left on Jordan the Lion's channel. Can't wait to explore more of your content!
Awesome! Glad to have you along for the ride! Gonna have some big videos coming in 2023!
Happy Holiday ⛄⛄⛄
Great video!!!👍
Thanks, Giuseppe! Glad you liked it!
Wrapping paper transitions were great. Also enjoyed the gift tag graphics. Excellent research on the changes to the house over the years. Interesting about the sets at the school. As always the shots were lined up perfectly. Overall excellent video.
Thank you! Creating the motion graphics is always one of my favorite parts of the video making process. They can be the most tedious at times too, so I'm glad you liked them 😆
I INSIST, THIS GUY IS AMAZING!
😆
This is the best one on the net, great work!
Wow, thank you, Aidan!
the train shown in the movie are old Pullman Gallery cars built in the 1950s and 1960s
Great video
very cool video i was enjoy watching
I seldom comment on CZcams but this video is just fantastic - incredibly well researched and presented and love the thoughts on why movie locations are so special :)
Much appreciated, OrangeDoseOverJuice! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it!
awesome job man
Thanks, Rico Suave!
This movie is still a favorite! I saw a lot of filming location videos of it but you surprised me with the photos of the interior sets....never saw them! Great work, love your channel!
Thanks, George! I dug all over trying to find set photos and couldn't find anything. A friend at work was really anticipating this video because of how much he loves the movie (he even had me FaceTime him when we were at the house, haha!). I was telling him about how much trouble I was having and of course after only a couple minutes he'd found that site with all the set photos 😆
You enjoy doing filming locations (I believe) is because it's like you said "treasure hunting". But this is treasure hunting of pieces of history, documenting, and the cherishing of memories. You do a great job 👍.
❤
Excellent job of filming, narration, and matching up this great film. I have the same reasons you do for being interested in these locations. I don’t film them but have chased many. I’m a new subscriber today. Keep them coming.
Thank you, Kenny! Glad to have you along for the ride!
great work!
Here’s a challenge, if it’s even possible, Two Lane Blacktop. Love your channel !!
I will certainly look into it! Thanks for the support, Martin!
There were also other movies that were filmed in that area. John Hughes chose that area to make his movies.
Excellent video!! I love hearing all about the sets even though I saw that Netflix show. You did an amazing show with this, and talked about some interesting points we(film tourists) all ask ourselves. I really wish I could of attended that Home Alone event…maybe next year!
Thanks, Leslie!! Definitely worth doing!
@@GoingtotheMovies you’re welcome :)
Best filming location channel!
I don’t know about that, Charles, but I sure do appreciate it!
You do such a great job with these filming locations videos!! This is my favorite movie so was so excited to see it. It didn't disappoint! I've been to a few of the filming locations myself. Went to the Pharmacy/Exterior Church/train station this year. Was an awesome experience. I've been to the house as well. My favorite location I've been to. I need to hit up the inside church filming location and a couple others I haven't been to. Thanks for sharing! Hope you had a Merry Christmas!!
Thanks, man!! Good to hear from you! The inside of the church was definitely a cool experience. They should show it annually in there.
I remember this movie and it's on Disney plus. This comedy makes me laugh.
I love ya work.. you’re actually better than most filming location vids
I just need to add your production and the then & now comparison views are just perfection 👍
Thanks, Rich! Glad you like them!
Thanks , I watch Home alone, Christmas vacation. The Grinch ( Jim Carey ) and A Christmas Story every year...
Thanks for watching, Tom! I'd like to do some videos on a couple of those too!
@@GoingtotheMovies The Christmas vacation house was torn down... :( it was a studio lot house
@@toma2667 oh wow, I didn’t realize they already torn it down. I was hoping it might somehow get saved… 😨
You're in my old neighborhood!! We lived about four blocks away before moving to warmer climes.
BTW the Married With Children house is just west of there about six miles.
I love that area so much! Hopefully Virginia doesn't see this comment because she might kill me if she finds out we missed the Married with Children house 😂
@@GoingtotheMovies It's nice, but I don't miss the cold and snow!
Wtf, how you have so few views? your content is amazing.
Another Great project ! Great Match Up shots. I too find it a rewarding challenge to locate filming locations (the obvious and the obscure). I think in previous lives we were Location Scouts.
Thanks, Felix! Wouldn't it be so fun to be a location scout!
10/10 vid bro.
Thanks, Delboy!
Hey great video 📹 👍🏻...won't be making the trip to sew the house due to the weather..so instead I just ordered the lego version so ill build my own ! 😁👍🏻....Merry Christmas 🎄🎅
I definitely thought about getting that Lego set too, Marc 😂 Thanks for checking out the video!
@@GoingtotheMovies Your welcome..well its almost 4000 pieces and in 24 bags !! Eeeek !! Happy Holidays 🎄🎅
Noice. Great walk and talks.
I've been watching a lot of Entourage
I only even thought of looking this up because we're currently watching HA with my 3yo as I speak. I wanted to see what became of the house, but on Google maps you're not even allowed to go down the street and the visible houses are blurred. I knew a video like this would exist. The owners remind me of the guy that bought Paul McCartney's childhood home in Liverpool (it is and will always be a little terraced house that goes straight onto the street) and then tells people off for standing on the grass, etc.
Great video dude, how far are most these locations from Chicago airport please?
Thanks man! It’s around 30 minutes-ish. McCallister’s definitely would have missed that international flight in real life.
I still can't figure out why your channel doesn't have 500k subs. Keep up the awesome work! Have you considered doing Uncle Buck? It was also filmed in Illinois.
Thanks, James! That means a lot! We didn't do Uncle Buck, but I'm sure we will get back up there soon. Hoping to do all the John Hughes movies at some point!
I actually like the new look of the home where they removed the looped driveway and did a metal picked fence because this offers the home better security which is ironic considering that "Home Alone" was a robing houses.
Joe Pesci was renting the home next to mine on Hillside Road in Northbrook, Ill while making this movie !
Sooooo….
Sandlot locations coming?
The answer to that question is...
YES. (But when I don't know)
When r u going to do part 2 of home alone lost in new york
Scott beat me to it lol! I watched first then comment. Congratulations on your new job and thank you for this. I totally agree with you on why these movies and locations mean so much. I appthe previous owners more than the sprinklers turning on fans and remodeling new ones. Love the bts footage and Kevin's scarf movement in the reverse shot lol. I hate that street view has been blurred on Kevin and the Murphy's houses. Didn't Uncle Buck use New Trier High School too? Merry Christmas you filthy animals everywhere! 🎅 🎄
Uncle Buck used new trier high school on happ road in Chicago for the drop off scene . There are two new triers in that area I found out. So this is the same school yes. I had no idea when I was there!
@@SCOTTONTAPE Thanks, buddy! I didn't know there was more than one. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Kind Sir! 😇
@@crush41gb same to you man have a great 2023!
Thanks, crush41gb! It really does suck that there's only really one year of Streetview in front of the house and half the houses on the street are blurred out. Seems like that's just going to make more people want to come see it! And, Scott's right on the New Trier's. The west one is just 9th grade and admin and the other is 10-12
@@GoingtotheMovies Absolutely! You'd think it would reduce traffic having to go to the house to see it lol. Thanks to you both for being so talented and awesome! 🤘😁
Whoa I'm blown away it wasn't a real house in those shots
@goingtothemovies can you cover the house from "Stepmom"? The house that belonged to Susan Sarandon was 👍
HA! This house is 5 mins from where I live in Winnetka...anytime of year and every single weekend when I (unfortunately) drive by it just...people, people, people, and...more people and in fact its gotten so out of hand that our local PD sits outside the house and watches
Cool but did you know interior scenes of the house took place at a different location , a. School gymnasium that they made a reconstruction of the house at the gymnasium some people dont even realize that.
Skip to the 5 minute mark 😉
Make A Video On Rocky (1976) & It's A Wonderful Life (1946) Movies Locations.....BTW Love From India 🇮🇳🇺🇲
Thanks, Ashutosh! I will certainly try!
👌👍❤
Here's a movie location idea, follow that dream by elvis presley
What happened to the cute Gazebo?? Was that just for the movie or did the town get rid of it I wonder? How can you get rid of a Gazebo? 🙀
Didn’t they film the interiors of Uncle Buck in that same school?
And where is the Location frome Alone in NY ? :)
