    My gripe with the more recent AC games is that they don't feel like genetic memories anymore. Why not just make a new franchise that's connected to AC instead of using the animus premise without really committing to it? I remember how grounded AC1 was. Every mechanic has an explanation that ties it in to the fact that it's memory being simulated through the animus

    • @peacemaster8117
      @peacemaster8117 Pƙed 17 dny +3

      It'd be a shame to keep doing the same thing, right? The animus mechanisms change as the animus technology changes. Black Flag isn't animus-based at all, you're a playtester playing a videogame based on the genetic memories of an assassin. Origins and Odyssey both rely on portable high-powered animus tech that creates weird glitches, like fighting the Gods of Egypt.

      @gemgem-hl7ii Pƙed 16 dny +3

      @@peacemaster8117 They don't have to keep doing the same thing. I just wish they made it more grounded. Yes, the animus was improved and became more powerful, but I find it hard to believe that all of Greece can fit into the genetic memory of a single person. Like, did she go in every nook and cranny of Greece? Maybe they could have made it the amalgamation of genetic memories of people from different parts of Greece and explained it as such.
      Also, the point of the synchronization bar is that if you do something that is not in-synch with the ancestor, it will deplete the synchronization bar. That's why killing civilians and getting hit (yes, the ancestor is really good at fighting that he/she doesn't actually get hit) deplete it little by little and going to a place the ancestor never went to results in imminent desynchronization.
      And remember how the previous games are divided in chapters called Sequences, which represent fragments of genetic memory sequences? That's gone now. The newer AC games don't even feel like memories anymore. I liked AC Origins and AC Odyseey, but they just don't give you the feeling that you're in the animus. Even the modern part of the story feels unnecessary, unlike in the older games where the modern part is well-integrated in the story and it actually feels like it's the main plot and what you do in the animus is just a driving force for that plot.

      And given what assassins creed is as a story about these two historical factions fighting throughout history, and the nature of japan as an isolationist warring state for hundreds of years, I can see how choosing a relatively famous "Samurai" who was also a part of one of the first Italian Jesuit missionary groups to reach Japan might play a role in the narrative.

For the female it's fine, she gonna be either ninja or onna musha. Everyone gonna compare that game with GOT, and gonna be disaster. When was the last time Ubi made a great game? I play R6 siege almost every day, but it was from 10 years ago. Played all AC games till Origins, their last good, not great AC. It's a shame really, players arguing over these stuff because of someone else's woke bugs in their head. There were plenty black warriors as well in Alexander the Great army, but person would think about Macedonian Falanga, elite might unit made by Macedonian white soldiers only. Do you get my point. If you want to play as a japanese man whose a samurai you can play literally any other samurai game ever, this is unique and could be used to create a very memorable experience due to how different it could be to play as Yasuke who will doubtlessly be different from other samurai.
      Seriously, I don't get your problem, is it really that big of a deal that hes black? He's a real historical figure, he provides an opportunity for a brand new and unique experience and theres stil a japanese person you can play as if you're really that butthurt about it.
      Like really, no one plays assassins creed for the "historical accuracy" its a unique dramatised reinterpritation of historical events that follows the assassins and the templars, Yasuke not being from Japan might even tie into that story, he came to japan as part of a missionary group in real history.
      You are right that the game probably won't be that good, its modern Ubisoft after all, but I fail to see why you're upset at the concept of a game following a black samurai.
      Its an assains creed game, you're here for the assassins, whatever they choose to do in the game is just sugar on the cream. If this was Ghost of Tsushima 2 and it followed Yasuke instead of Jin that would be fine, but its an assassins creed game, not a samurai game or a game with established characters, so who it follows shouldn't matter.
      I'm sorry, but saying that they did this because of "woke bugs" is just stupid a nd reductive, its a video game about a real historical figure in a dramatacised alternate history world, they aren't doing this because of race, but because its a cool historical figure. And not much is known about him beyond a few records due to him not having a japanese family to carry on his legacy, so the writers have more freedom than they would if the game followed the lord he served, Nobunaga.
      Sorry but I don't believe you when you say you don't have a problem with black people, it sounds like your only problem here is that hes black, and given everything else, the only reason i can think of for you not liking him is your're racist.

The guy who was so cruel he was called a demon in the text books. You know a tyrant? I know guy is romantisized a lot, but you have to see the problem here right? @@RainyFun They already have made it stand apart by having a female and a Black protagonist ....... If you want to play as a male Japanese then go play Ghost of Tsushima, if you don't care then play AC Shadows ..... Personally I'll likely play both .... I don't have a problem with the protagonists, I'm more worried about the gameplay loop which sucked in Valhalla, a boring story and protagonist and horrible combat like Mirage and poor performance and crashing like Valhalla which still crashes every 8 hours on average while Odyssey and Origins almost never crashes and I can easily go 100 hours between crashes. I also worry because I see some of the exact same promises they made with Valhalla (like stealth ) and failed to deliver on being said again about Shadows.
      I'm cautiously optimistic that the game engine rewrite will fix a lot of the issues that Valhalla has because they tried to hack DX12 into a game engine designed for DX11 and DX11 and DX12 are two entirely different beasts

    The entire vision they have for AC makes such little sense at all based on the game and mechanics they are making it for. I could write a 2 page post about why the gameplay loop for AC games is not designed for just looping outpost capture forever, the game needs a cinematic and captivating storyline that makes you want to go find the next mission. The outposts are like the bread at an Italian restaurant, it goes WITH the main dish. It’s not exciting or fun enough to want to play for more than a couple weeks at a time.

      @@theastralwisdomYou must have a lot of hay with the strawmans you’re making.
      Assassins Creed has always had the native people be the main playable character in the time period they’re set in from a demographic speaking stand point aside from Revelations.
      Having Yasuke and a Japanese woman be the only playable characters and not a Japanese man was very much obviously decided due to ESG and DEI initiatives that have minority quotas for black people only than genuine creativity. It’s extreme pandering. Yasuke was never a samurai. Assassins Creed has always tried to look and feel as authentic as possible with some obvious sacrifices for gameplay reasons aside from the couple previous entries which had more mythical creatures incorporated.
      If you’re going to be ignorant, at least try to educate yourself beforehand as to why people are really upset. We want to be a Japanese version of Ezio, Altair, Edward, and Connor set in feudal Japan without ESG demanding minority representation because they’re too fragile to play as someone typical from this era.

    It's not that they are "massaging historical facts a little bit" its that they are doing it to pander and every AC game before it had characters who where from the region the game was set in, a game set in Africa should not have a white guy as the main protagonist and this is the exact same situation.
    Nobody likes this sort of pandering and in a game supposedly about stealth and assassination being the least inconspicous man in the land is a bad idea. This is why the current gen of AC games should have been RPG spinoffs instead because they are barely about assassination and stealth anymore.

      The Samurai isn't stealth focused. The Shinobi is. Also black man doesn't automatically mean pandering. You said it yourself. Every AC game in the past had characters who were from the region the game was set in. So the FIRST time it's not like that and you're jumping to conclusions? That's not critical thinking. Not to mention future titles like AC Jade and AC Hexe have protagonists from the region the games are set in too.
