Just realized this is from a year ago - hope you see my comment. It was so much fun to watch - AGAIN:) This time, I painted with you. It's my 2nd pastel painting. I did it on 1000 grit wet sand paper. I could tell by the time it was finished; I was losing tooth in a few areas. Overall, it worked great. First time using the CaranD'Ache - These are amazing. I did my color swatches and couldn't believe the pigment. The possibilities are endless:) Thank you sweet Sensei❤

Just discovered your site. Looks nice. Most important to me is are your pastels Fugitive or Lighfast ( or Both ) ? Must the finished art work be mounted under glass?
I have SUCH a hard time creating loose, painterly works. I aim for impressionism but fall short. This helps to see the big shapes. Thank you for posting and explaining. Oh! The music was lovely and perfect for this!

@@monetcafe Thank you Susan, the weather is starting to cool a bit, so I'll be able to get outside more. My youngest granddaughter. Has graduated from SPC and has been going to USF. We alway studied the Bible together. She came to me yesterday and ask... What has been my inspiration in making sure all my children has understanding, when it came to scripture. My response: Proverbs 1:4 To give prudence to the simple, (To the young man knowledge and discretion) Notice it says "To give" to the young "knowledge and discretion" Meaning, give you knowledge, come understanding comes wisdom and let you decide by giving you "discretion" She touch my heart. :)

Hi Susan, I've decided to go with making abstracts with pastels because I just can't wrap my head around the rules of realistic pastel painting. I enjoy abstracts and watercolour so I think that will work best. This painting inspires me to make one tomorrow morning and I'm very excited!! Thank you and take care!!

This is one of the most beautiful paintings I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched it several times now. I’ve never tried pastels but I’d love to try to recreate this. I have no idea how you came up with the under painting. Your eyes are magical. It sure came together. 😊 I wish you mention the pastel color as you use it, because as someone that is new to pastels, I doubt I’d be able to differentiate between some of the darks. Anyway, lovely painting!

Hmmmm.....I've been toying with the idea of trying to plein air with pastels but didn't want to lug my gear with me (hubby made wooden pastel open boxes for me --- they are kind of heavy). I think that Sennelier Paris set might be a wonderful solution. Just keep it separate and ready to go. Love, love your painting. Thank you for sharing your skill with us.
Beautiful! I liked that you did this on Lux Archival. I tried this paper out using softer pastels and didn't have good luck with it. I'm going to try it again using these techniques and see how it goes.
Nice!! I hope you have success on this surface. You may want to try pastels with a medium hardness first before filling up the tooth with the softest pastels. Have fun!
This is so incredibly beautiful. I love your work! I am new to pastels and a bit confused about the different types. Are wax pastels different from pan pastels and soft pastels? (I’ve used gelatos in some of my paintings….are they different from wax and pan pastels)? Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much Lynne. Yes, wax pastels are different from pan or soft pastels. They literally feel like coloring crayons, but burst with color when you add water. I usually just use them for underpaintings on a water-friendly surface. I just posted a new video today using them if you want to check it out. Happy painting!
