    Learn how to paint with water-soluble oil pastels!
    I very much enjoy participating in the Sennelier Monday Live art tutorials. Hosted by artist Yves-Marie Salanson, I never fail to take away something beneficial. As a teacher, I love to keep learning, and I think it's invaluable to learn from a variety of instructors. I'll have a link for you below re: how to participate in these Monday Live events.
    I really enjoy learning from Monsieur Salanson, and these weekly lessons give me a few minutes of a guilty pleasure, which is trying to understand the spoken French language. I took 7 years of lessons in High School and College - mais il y a beaucoups d'ans!
    Mungyo Gallery Water-Soluble Oil Pastels are a student-grade product and as such, do not carry lightfastness ratings. If you are using them solely in a sketchbook, as I have in this video, they will serve you well.

My first experience with oil pastels and I have them in my Amazon cart to buy when I finish your video. I love what you did and I'm not trying to be rude but I would get more out of a tutorial if it wasn't so fast so I can actually see what you are doing. The Mungyo water-soluble oil pastels are student-grade, whereas the Neocolors are professional-grade. I tend to reach for the Neocolors more because they are more richly pigmented.
      The Neocolors are a wax-based medium, so they do act a bit differently than these. I’ve got a playlist here that includes my thoughts on the Neocolor Is and IIs; I hope this helps you decide: Caran d'Ache Art Supplies

      Thanks Chris! Are you using soft (chalk) pastels or oil pastels? The paper I used on this video is lovely-it’s Sennelier Pastel Card. For a much more approachable alternative and my favorite practice paper, I do have 2 more pastel videos up. In those I use Caran d’Ache Neocolor IIs. The methods are by in large the same for any pastels…the water solubility makes blending very simple!
      Here are those videos:

    Hi, I am really new beginner. I don't understand how these are different from using watercolors

    • @artonthecreek
      @artonthecreek  Před 6 měsíci +2

      No worries-I can see how some of the mediums might be confusing. Professional watercolor is a combination of pigment, gum Arabic & sometimes honey. Student-grade watercolors add a higher percentage of binders or fillers, which results in a lower cost but also paint that isn’t as crisp, clear, or transparent.
      These are student-grade water-soluble oil pastels. Although they can be used “like watercolor” in that they can be blended out with water, they are an oil-based medium.
      I hope that helps🤠 I know you didn’t ask; I have a series of beginner watercolor lessons that might interest you, and I will add to this list in 2024: czcams.com/play/PLR7d_Il9GxrTWjSmq6RL8yPypkwq-y7_q.html&si=_ju30_lP9kt8_Yh_
