Today I'm mixing up an Espresso Martini - twice! The original name of this cocktail was Vodka Espresso - you can guess what was in the thing. I'll give you a hint, it's not cognac - but I'll show you it is really good that way! I like using Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur for both of these recipes because it isn't overly sweet. So if you enjoy an Espresso Martini, you'll want to try these recipes with Mr. Black - Cheers!

Will be trying both versions when my Mr Black arrives.
I have enjoyed espresso martinis made with vodka for years so I am going straight for the cognac. Mr. Black sounds perfect. I have a feeling this is going to be love at first sip. đ
I like either an aged or smoked grappa in place of the vodka/cognac. œ a pinch of sea salt as well.
Whatâs your take on using a nitro cartridge instead of double straining? Never seen it done, but Iâm curious after watching this video.
finally a personalized code for me
Out of all the cocktail channels on youtube you guys have without a doubt the best looking one. The lighting is really nice, graphics are cool (although some could stay up a tad longer), your set/bar is well laid out, your editing is totally on point (love the cutaways to tight shots). And of course the content is great. I work in production and find most channels horrible looking or just amateurish. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the kind words, Kevin! Cheers to you!
@@AndersErickson I've always assumed your girlfriend has industry experience with video making, if not then you guys have picked it up very quickly.
Agree! Fantastically shot and delivered
@@Spaxcore Iâm pretty sure she does cause the videos in this channel have been gorgeous and well edited since day one
@@Spaxcore She's a professional food photographer, so it makes sense.
I need to stop. I have been watching bartender videos on CZcams nonstop for days. I have cut off contact. Please help me please help me.
You will get through it, I was in your shoes last year. Stay consistent
Dude same! đ
I can help you ..to know about bartending
I donât watch nor do I make. I just drink it. And itâs goooooooooodâŠ.,
Just understand that's its a disease, not an addiction. There's help out there
Ok I just made this. Fantastic. Iâve had espresso martinis before but they were made with kahlua, Mr. Black is a MASSIVE upgrade from that. I did add some fee brothers chocolate bitters, and that elevated the cocktail to a whole new level. I highly recommend trying that out.
At this point you should make a phone app with all recipes you know so we have your versions at one place :D honestly yours are by far the best!!!
The cognac is a welcome addition, I once had a similar drink with brandy in a Peruvian bar (it wasnât called espresso martini). They used 2 shorts of pisco, 1 shot Mr Black, simple syrup, and a barspoon each of freshly pressed ginger juice and lime juice. They also stirred it rather than shaking. Let me tell you it was amazing. Happy weekend Anders
Woah that sounds incredible, what bar was this?
Wow, what a combo! I'm going to have to give that a shot. Thanks, David! Happy Friday!
I absolutely love the history lesson along with the recipe!!!! đđŒđđŒđđŒ
Love Mr. Black! Discovered it in 2019 when I took a trip to Australia and saw it popping up in the States soon after. Been recommending it to every friend that enjoys a good espresso martiniđ
I love how you give history behind the drinks, you're amazing. đđđđ
Definitely trying the cognac version! Just ordered myself and my pops a bottle and cant wait for it to get here! Thanks for the hookup and keep doing what youre doing.
Absolutely love your channel! I think your recipes and methods have got to be my favorites!! Also, love getting the history of the different drinks!!â€
I just tried this cocktail with Cognac and loved it!!! Great video, as always!!!
Love the lemon oil ingredient, haven't tried this, so look forward to doing so!
I really love the tip of the lemon oils. Appreciated.
Really nice for winter season
Good job mr anders!
I just want to say, I'm so happy I stumbled across your channel not to long ago. You've been a fantastic inspiration on my own cocktail making and have really forced me to go out and explore different distillers. Heck, I even started expanding the types of spirits I like to use now. So thank you Anders, for all the great content and amazing personality! Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next video. Cheers
Thank you so much, Sean! Happy to hear you're finding value in the content, and love that I can help as you expand your cocktail interest/knowledge. Cheers to you!
Sounds & Looks fantastic I would definitely go for the Cognac Variation đ
Definitely trying this with the cognac, sounds awesome! đ
Just stumbled across your channel about a week ago and canât get enoughâŠlove the content, editing, personality, âsips, tips and recipes.â
Keep it up!! And thanks so much.
Thanks, Garrett! Cheers!
Recently discovered your channel. Very much enjoying the content. Thanks for sharing!
I'm a bar manager in downtown Chicago, we put 3 different espresso martinis on draught. Let me just say it was a pain in the ass to set up. But once you get it working and get it nice and foamy, it's a huge hit.
We tried one with a Reposado and it's fantastic. Repo and coffee is actually a great flavour combination.
My favorite youtube channel by a mile. Thanks for all of your videos and suggestions! you guys are the best at what you do.
Thanks, Luis! Hope you're having a great Friday and enjoy the weekend!
Thanks for the video and discount. I ordered two bottles today. I think my wife and I will love the Cognac version but we'll try both. We love your content, sir!
favorite cocktail hands down
Coffee is my favorite drink!!! Its so interesting recipes and I hope to make it so soon)) THANKS a lot)
Love it! Can't wait to try it tomorrow, cheers!
Thank you AndersïŒïŒ I followed your recipe making espresso martini with vsop. Fabulous! I love the lemon peel oil. So fresh !!
I like using a good rum rather than vodka. Canât wait to try the cognac version. Mr. Black is fantastic stuff!
Loved Anders Erickson explaining the history and stories of cocktails
Ooooo!! Love the Cognac and lemontwist đđ Gotta give that a try. Thanks guys!
Itâs dangerous! Cheers Johan đ
I appreciate this channel. Canât wait to try the cognac version.
Thank you. I Have an espresso every weekend and never had a mr black. I`m trying this during XMAS. Thank you.
Mr Black is now my favorite liqueur! so happy to have found it and now i need to try your version of the drink.
Gonna try that tomorrow!
So glad you showed both ways, I think I would prefer cognac. Can't wait to try this.
i've been swapping the vodka for bourbon, and the lemon expression for orange. one of my go-to cocktails. :) (also works really well with cane simple syrup instead of demerera if you want to amp the sweetness and make it taste more... breakfast-y.)
Az & Anders, what a great channel and awesome recipes!
I finally located Mr Black in my area. The difference between Mr Black and another brand was amazing! Thank you guys for great recipes and entertainment.
Much love and encouragement đ
Thanks for the story and the idea of adding lemon oil.
Love your channel!
Love your videos, looking forward to this one
when I make my espresso martini at home, I like to add half an ounce of Cointreau triple sec to the mix. I feel the rich citrus flavor accents the coffee flavors well, and it gives the cocktail an overall sweet yet complex taste, kind of like that of a Terry's Chocolate Orange
Sounds delicious! Citrus and coffee always rock together.
Love this. Never thought to use Cognac. I think I'll be using that on the next one.
Amazing video. Just started to delve into the wonders of cocktail making. Have tried a couple of espresso martinis but just tried this version with Mr Black and it was great. Will definitely be checking out some of your other videos for cocktail ideas
Don't just watch 'some' of Anders' videos, watch them all. So fun and interesting! Have a great day.
Tried both. Amazing!! Youâre version is my new favourite. Used Remy Martin for the cognac version.
Anders - love your show. Great receipes with open-minded approach and great attitude. Have replaced the sugar syrup for maple syrup and orange peel instead of the lemon. Works a treat!
Anders, you have nice sense of humor and good taste for beauty.
Thanks for sharing!
I flipping love mr black!!!
I made the cognac version and loved it!
Mr. Black is blowing up the internet đ„
Made the Morgenthaler cold brew concentrate for this. Just tried it with cognac and it was delicious. Thanks! I bet this would also work well with a good rum like an El Dorado or something.
I usually make a version without the lemon. Last time I tried adding some cocoa bitters to it, and it gave it some interesting spicy flavour, with cinnamon notes. Worth the try.
I've just found your channel and I have to say I'm usually a neat whiskey kind of guy but I went out and bought the ingredients in this just to try it and I loved it keep up the great work
I was planning on having more than a few of these at Christmas, hopefully I'll be able to elevate them now! Another great video thanks đ
It'll make for a festive holiday!
I make mine with spiced rum. Banging combination.
The cognac version was an absolute hit after dinner tonight, Merry Christmas đ!! . Thank you for the fantastic creation . We enjoy your CZcamss very much. They make me miss bartending. Was tons of fun and kept me alive in college.
Ps the Mr Black does it. Not a syrup coffee liqueur. Itâs wonderful.
I just made my first espresso martini a few weeks ago but I'm glad you pointed out that most coffee liquors are too sweet. That's the first thing I pulled out of drinking mine is that I wish it wasn't like drinking a sugary cold brew. I'll consider picking up Mr Black next time I'm shopping for alcohol
Love the channel and enjoying working my way through the recipes. We always have our espresso martini with rum rather than vodka, especially diplomatico reserva from Venezuela. Lovely
Mine was just delivered! I can't wait to try a cold brew old fashioned!
Just made my 1st espresso martini based on your recipe. Used mr black, 2:1 syrup and remy martin accord royal as well as an espresso from my quickmill carola. it was delicious!
I just decided to make these yesterday and looked for your video on it and suddenly itâs here!
Yesss.....this one has it all! Great video, great story, great cocktails I will have to try out! Ever tried a rum or whisky(e)y as the other spirit?
Thanks Anders!
Just made this after trying it at a bar yesterday for the first time used the absolute vanilla was a nice addition to the flavour
I always have such a great time watching your videos, I wish they were longer lol. Going for espresso rn
Thank you so much! Enjoy that espresso âïž
I just discovered your channel and Love all of your videos. I live just south of you, if you are still in Chicago, I wish I could visit your bar to try your drinks. Every drink you make looks fantastic and I really love when you use rums in your drinks. Cheers.
Great channel, Anders
Nice one Anders. Previously ive made a version of this using a smoked rum, and it was awesome. Well worth a shake, if you ever happen to have a suitable bottle behind the bar.
what a well made video!!!
Hi Anders, thx for film. I love any recipes where I can exchange vodka for cognac, your recipe is perfectđ
Great looking beverage
This is most elegant channel, you also look at the camera and personal like just talking to us in the bar. Thank you for being honest also about the sponsor about the Mr. Black.
I finally got an espresso maker, and I've been wanting to make this, so I did! Unfortunately didn't have any Mr. Black, but I used Kahlua, and it still tasted great! Thanks, Anders!
At the bar I work at we also put a shot of frangellico in and my God its an amazing touch
wow. the swap of cognac for vodka is...a revelation. I've always enjoyed the standard espresso martini as a treat, but with cognac it is sublime!
In my bar we do our Espresso Martini with Gin and put one cardamon bean into the shaker - itâs amazing
Just found your channel. My new favorite. I'm an at-home hack cocktailer who really enjoys a night on the town with friends and a talented bartender. Making my way through your library to become less of a hack and start enjoying more cocktails at home. Thanks for your insight.
Great recipes, I make mine with Rum or, on occasion, Kraken Spiced Rum. Delicious.
I am going for the cognac espresso martini right away, Anders! I am not a fan at all of a super sweet cocktail so I have never liked coffee liqueurs. But as soon as I tasted Mr. Black in Australia a few years ago, I loved it. I brought some back and I hope Mr. Black is available in Canada soon. I don't know why it isn't at this point. We want Mr. Black! The cognac is a fabulous idea to use in this cocktail. I am really looking forward to it. And I will absolutely give the vodka espresso martini another try. I don't drink them often but they are very enjoyable. When I was in Melbourne I got a huge sense of how much they love their coffee, as we do here in Vancouver - huge coffee friendly cities!! We take our coffee seriously! I can see how Mr. Black was developed in Australia. It makes sense given their love of coffee and the espresso martini. High end coffee and Mr. Black are literally part of the foodie/coffee/cocktail culture. They are adored in AUS!! Have a terrific weekend, Anders. Great video! I hope you are well! Cheers!
Thanks, Christine! Hope you can get your hands on some more Mr. Black soon. I think you'll love the espresso martini with the cognac! I haven't had the pleasure of visiting Australia yet, so I can't say I've experienced their love of coffee first hand, but after tasting Mr. Black I can tell they know good coffee! Have a great weekend with something fun to sip on! Cheers!
My favorite Martini! Ordered two bottles!
the lemon is great in this! I cant believe I just made a better espresso martini than any that ive tried at nice places. thanks!!!
Cheers again Anders, substituted the simple syrup and normal vodka for salted Carmel vodka and it worked a treat.
My favourite channel on CZcams ! Incredible videos always Anders
Cheers, Edward!
Keep them coming
Those Espresso Martinis look tasty AS! We will be sipping the Anders' riff this weekend đ
Cheers!
Using what's in my shelf and substituted small batch bourbon - that adds good flavors too. Excited to try a splash of cointreau and cognac next time! With the addition of black walnut bitters.
I read your comment and decided to try the black walnut bitters in my espresso martini, it truly gave it a new depth!!!
A great resource as always. I don't know how easy it'd be for you to source, but you might be interested in getting a bottle of Kavi, its a Canadian coffee infused whiskey, but the prep involves blending casks between ~10-18 years old, then re-racking that with high end cold brew, which is then rested for a couple years. Ends up just under 40% ABV, so I use it as the base in lieu of vodka altogether.
for holidays, adding 6-8 mint leaves+ .5 creme de cocoa doesn't suck either.
It looks very good. Maybe rum or whisk(e)y would be good too (such an Irish coffee upgrade, hehe). I will definitely have to try this, I have some homemade coffee liqueur. Thank you for your videos, very informative and entertaining. Cheers!
Amazing content as usual - wonder what would James Hoffman sayâŠ
Don't tell him about my cheap espresso machine đŹ
Heâd probably say something kinda snobby.
No problem with Mr. Hoffmann as long as you don't put any cheese into it. czcams.com/video/W2cIOOG4ImE/video.html
@@TomRyanMKE ah James is great. Heâs very aware of the wanker-ness around coffee and heâs always been basically do whatever you want.
@@AndersErickson I only drink espresso and you don't need a fancy machine. The stovetop Bialetti works great, too.
I just bought some coffee liqueur in Mexico. This video is just want I needed!
Iâve been waiting on this video đ âïž đž
Looks great! Another example of how any vodka cocktail is instantly made better if you swap out the vodka for something else đ ..still no Mr. Black in Canada so in the meantime, Iâm sticking with my homemade imitation mr black haha
Haha you're not wrong. I still need to try making your coffee liqueur recipe - it sounds excellent! Thanks, Rob!
@@AndersErickson Iâm on batch 3 haha đ
a cosmopolitan made using cognac...?
Love lemon in coffee cocktails. I also can't wait to try your way. How in the world haven't thought of that??? Oh ya, because Anders is a GENIUS!!
Hahaha it was only a matter of time before you did it too. Cheers, Carl!
FABULOUS Anders!!!! Did the original but had no lemons so substituted an orange peel. Came across great as sort of an orange chocolate truffle candy but coffee. Anyways LOVED IT!!!
Mr. Black is the best!! Hello again from Wisconsin, Anders!
Hi neighbor!
This looks amazing. I wish I could get my hands on some Mr.Black here in Canada. Cheers!
Make for breakfast after a hard night out - a great pick-me-up, refreshing, and 'hair of the dog'.
Hey Anders! Love the channel and donât ever miss a one! Definitely gonna be trying this one out. When are you gonna be back behind the bar for real?
i love seeing people's takes on this drink. seems like everyone builds it a little differently
And they're all still so good!
I just made these with Park XO. What a treat! You're great! Keep it up :). Cheers from Germany.
Love to see the addition of cognac it really compliments the cocktail well. actually at the bar I work at we use a Spanish brandy and just just a bit of crĂšme de cacao, everything else is done by the Jeffery morgenthauler way with cold brew espresso and lemon zest. Really nice to see the addition of zest and great job âșïž
Mmmđ Iâm gonna try the cognac one Iâve never tried it!
