  • We took the chance of having this guitar for a couple of days to test it and this was one of the things we did with it. Great guitar. Thanks to Mr. Phil for his excellent drumming.

    How do you keep the groove so tight?

    • @SoloDallas
      @SoloDallas  Před 2 lety +55

      NICE question - the only one I remember recently in thousands of comments; here's the deal: one has TO CONSTANTLY, every instant, every moment, feel the rhythm within themselves; dance to it, MOVE your body (literally, dance, "bop" to the rhythm). The 'faces' however disturbing to some (aware of this) ARE a necessity for the playing guitarist; they simply show the inner timing, inner sound manifesting itself on the outside, as well playing it on the instrument. It's a whole, completely surrounding feeling that has to encompass the whole body and mind. It IS a big effort, but it is necessary in order to play in a way that will give you - instantly and constantly - the true satisfaction that I KNOW you have been looking for. That satisfaction in fact can (in my humble opinion) ONLY be found in timing, more than ANYTHING other technique. A musician's best secret and most precious skill is nothing else but their sense (and skill - to be developed) of timing. Merry Christmas, Fil!

      Powerage (my favorite album) really showed how good the band had become as the playing and Bon's lyrics were superb. It showed they were ready for the next level. Unfortunately Bon was not there to enjoy it.;(

    I’ve noticed every single cover of AC/DC on CZcams never sounds like what they do live or on the records. I swear it’s a deep secret when it comes to tones with Malcolm and Angus. RIP Malcolm Young! Greatest rhythm guitarist of all time

    • @SoloDallas
      @SoloDallas  Před 6 lety +24

      Scotty one of the reasons why 'Classic AC/DC' was so good (still is in fact, because it's a *classic*) was their attention to perfection: their recording style and technique added to their talent is still unmatched. NO cover band has the talent nor knowledge (and commitment!) to get anywhere close, now or in the future. The amount of time and (once again) knowledge relative to such process is just unreplicable today, with few to no exceptions.

    • @gwhiz3708
      @gwhiz3708 Před 3 lety +9

      Maybe they could nail that sound if they focused more on the playing and forget about trying to act like Angus. The rythym player was working his ass off trying to move his mouth like Angus does when he’s playing. I don’t know why people think they have to act like Angus when playing his music. That’s just the way Angus reacts while playing. It’s not required to play AC DC songs😎

      @@gwhiz3708 Are you playing Guitar? I do for about 30 years. And nearly every good Guitarist i've played with did some stupid looking moves and things with his eyes and his mouth. Including me. I didn't know that until i saw myself on video and was really suprised and a little bit scared 😅 It is like you re on a trip when you re grooving and moving right. This is not an Angus thing. And for the 2 guys in the video: perfect performance! Really really nice! ACDC brought me to music when i was a child. It is simple an clean. Everybody can learn the notes. But only a few hit the groove right, hit the tone right....sorry for the poor grammar, german english.....rock on

      Thanks, really appreciate the comment. We'll probably go with an early to mid 70s Super Bass for the next recording as it's slightly cleaner, and perhaps think about a different speaker choice. Again, that's to add to the clarity/tightness of his sound. The SD50 is a very versatile amp though... clean to dirty, it's all there.

      Little late commenting, but do you happen to remember what your settings are for Mal's sound on this? I'm so close with my own Gretsch, but I feel like I'm missing out on some sort of 'secret sauce' so-to-speak with the tone.

    • @rev2203
      @rev2203 Před 6 lety

      Jimmy: We are using the latest TSR here with the boost off, using only the optical limiter for a touch of compression. This was a bit of a work-around because we didn't have a 1992 Marshall Super Bass at the time of recording (it's here now) . I'm not sure where the settings ended up: naturally, it changes throughout the process. Where are you so far? Which amp are you using? Presence on these old (or old-style) amplifiers is a major part of dialling in the sound, and this sound especially - the amp 'volume' knob isn't everything. Of course we should mention there is numerous UAD plug-ins on top of this sound, but nothing earth-shattering or really that "magic". To my ears now, it has a bit too much 'grit' in the tone, but that's 50 watts for you. Not bad, though! We'll fix it. Cheers

      @jimestooper1480 Před 6 lety

      rev2203 Thank you for the reply! I am actually using a JCM 900 that a friend sold to me. It’s surprisingly good for Malcom’s tone, albeit sometimes I find myself fiddling with every knob to try to get closer and sometimes even using an EQ which personally I’m not a fan of. Like you said, it’s an everyday hunt for the proper tone! Again, thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I’m definitely always on the lookout for a superbass as well, it’d be a dream to finally have one in my possession.

    Nailed it, boys. Bravo! This song is not as easy as it looks/sounds. Rock On ! Now if we could just get Bon in there...

      EVERY SINGLE AC/DC song is extremely hard to play - playing the WAY AC/DC play it. Contrary to EVERY SINGLE voice who has affirmed "AC/DC songs are easy to play", AC/DC songs are almost impossible to play making them sound the way AC/DC made them sound. Shocking as it may be - that's the reality.

    The Young brothers were such great song writers. Awesome cover off an awesome album. LTBR/Powerage/HTH AC/DC is untouchable. Always loved the break at 4:17. Classic AC/DC.
