Architects - Doomsday is incredible, one of my favorites and a lot of their music around that time centered around the tragic loss of the -singer's- drummer's brother, who was also their guitarist, Tom.

If you wanna get an older vibe of theirs & a great example of Sam's brilliant lyricism then look no further than "These Colour's Don't Run". It's got a fantastic lyric video & It'll give you an idea of their 2012-ish era sound which nicely sets up a journey through their more recent (and more recognised/acclaimed) discography. They lost their guitarist/main songwriter & founding member (also twin brother of drummer Dan Searle) Tom Searle in August 2016 after an ongoing battle with Melanoma, which you I'm sure you'll discover had a huge impact on the band & their fanbase & the modern metal community as a whole.

These Colours Don't Run by Architects is one you *have* to do. The lyric video itself is the one that hits hardest. I'm convinced you'd fucking love it.

This entire album has got an industrial-symphonic metal vibe, where they have taken a step back to their usually heavy music, but at the same time incorporated several other elements. The album as a whole sounds like a message to all human beings, as to what we as a species have been doing and are currently doing to the Earth, in the name of humanity and it's survival.
Most people will recommend you their older stuff, which is no doubt great, but maybe listening to the entire album might answer the questions you had at the end.
