I can see why Interlagos was "simplified" to be safer (just like Imola). That beginning and middle section required drivers to be precise and fully committed to be fast.

I would like to see the old track return: it is visible from the air - albeit with the “new” corners at Descida Do Lago and Juncao.

It's not just visible, it's fully driveable in a race, just needs new asphalt as it's pretty old. Only issue is that we can't have the middle sector due to the new parking lot we have in it's place nowdays.
Fun little fact, the old straight is still used to this day in some weekends for drag races.

It would be good - I imagine it would eat tyres and driver fatigue would be a problem, the high g-forces on the longer corners would be challenging

Don’t forget that there’s high speed corners, please. You can realize how fast the cars are and that makes races more exciting. And oh, the static and wide cameras.
Edit: I’m talking about the old layout.
Edit 2: I hope the old layout gets brought back with improved safety. High-speed corners are what I love about Formula 1.

Actually, shortcut for oval was created 16 years after Interlagos was opened. If I remember correctly, Stock Car Brasil was racing on oval circuit

I don't know why they couldn't modify the old circuit to modern standards. Today's circuit is a downgrade, no question about it.

Mate.They modified the track cuz.The track was too huge.It used to be 7-kilometers bumpy tarmac and the most ridiculous about this track is the track was so huge that their are no enough room for larger grandstands.Runoff areas and extra room for other facilities cause almost 2/3 of track was bumpy tarmac.
