@@HockeyNationLiveShow as the NHL's first Analytics and video guy (all the way back to 95/96 I see Mailloux as our #1 RD for the Habs or any NHL cup contender. Guhle as a 2 or 3 D. Hutson as a 3-4 PP specialist, Reinbacher hasn't showm me enough to grade him clearly. I like Kostenko. I'm not going to rank the Habs Vets on D as they probably are not long term. I also them Xhekaj (who I nick named "Happy") is a keeper if his shoulders allow it as a 4-6 dman with that grit you need without sacrificing skill.

We have lots of young talent. I would go for someone like Adam Lowery or bring back McCaron for the third line. This would take fighting pressure off of Anderson and Xhekaj and allow them to work on their game. Stabilize the line up and let the young players grow.

Necas is talll yes... a great skater yes ... a great shooter yes ... a great passer yes ..... BUT HE he is afraid of getting hit .... A European trait M.O. ... However to me he would be an upgrade over Caufeild...... Caufeild $8.00 trade for Necas $4.5 ...
Thanks for your comment today. If you have a chance, check his NHL EDGE stats for Necas and tell me why 10 of his 24 goals are in front of the net and 7 more of top circle left side. Not afraid to be in front of the net
@@HockeyNationLiveShow Necas is a frightened player ... he does not hit anything and he runs away from being hit ... 3.44 hits per 60 mins on the ice.... a bit better than Caudeild......In other words un lache a coward. You can keep him ..
Great interview with good insights.
I like Marko's target of Holloway as it fits right into what we'd want in terms of need and age but agree with Enortap; find something other than Arber (or Mailloux) for that matter. We are already lacking in players with size and aggression that can play so I'd prefer to leave the few players we possess that fit into that mold alone. Good thing is I trust that our management will make the right deal for our team.

Please leave Mailloux alone. We’ve invested in this kid and he’s gonna be a huge piece of our D core for the next 10 years. We’re talking about a 21 year old 6´3’ mobile and physical right shooting defenseman here. He can put it in the net as well. He will munch 20-25 minutes a game in the playoffs. As soon as we trade him, we’ll be looking for that kind of player.
I agree on Holloway, depending on the price.

Jesus, Arber Xhekaj AS A DEFENCEMAN is outscoring Holloway the big power-forward thus far in their respective careers.
Currently there are 31 NHL teams that would give up ALOT more than a 22 yr old forward that has scored a mere 18 career points in 89 games.
Matt Roy at roughly $3.5 milion looks good.
My mock trade would probably be;
MTL: Wyatt Johnston.
DAL: 2024 1st WIN, Logan Mailloux, Alex Newhook.
I get its a lot but this is that pure goal scorer we need. Hes a superstar or at least will be a superstar. Mailloux is a big piece but not for us in a rebuild. Newhook to fill in that young fast talent in that middle 6 and the first for value. Maybe an asset in another trade for Dallas? Johnston has the size as he is 6'2 184 LBS and performs in the playoffs while being a goal scorer. He would challenge Caufield for that #1 goal guy. I think we might need to add more depending on how the Stars feel on him. If they said no to that then 1 for 1 Guhle Johnston
He is a clutch player for sure. Now Dallas won't trade him but it's a mock trade proposal. To get him Dach 1st WPG and Mailloux
@HockeyNationLiveShow I agree. Dallas wouldn't ever give him up unless we offered Caufield which I thought about but too risky. Exciting player and if any team ever takes him from Dallas they are lucky.
Question: if you were Dallas GM, would you trade Johnston?

I like the Marko Holloway idea. But I do think Xhekaj is kinda an untouchable. I think they could look at Evans as a deph Center to maybe fill in for McClod next year Struble as a good physical defenseman and good defensive player and then maybe Dobes to up their goaltending system? That should get us Holloway.

First proposal: We all know that the Oilers are in "Win Now" mode and if they would be willing to part with Holloway, I think they'd want at least 1 NHL ready Defenceman, with at least 2, but preferrably 3 or 4 NHL seasons under his belt. Xhekaj fits the bill for his physicality, but lacks NHL experience and the right defensive skill set the Oilers are in need of now. Proposal Two: Dealing with Carolina will come with some baggage so that might be problematic in itself. Second, there will be lots of teams calling Carolina to try to extort their key pieces (all the other GM's know Carolina is in a Salary Cap crunch) and besides, Necas' salary was $3M this season and while due for a raise, taking on the Matheson contract is MORE expensive (AAV is $4.8M Base salary is $4.5M) so Im not sure how that works in Carolina salary cap issues. Id assume the Canes would want at least a couple young prospects possibly Mesar and possible Struble in exchange.
It all depends who we can take at 5th this year.
If Demidov and Lindstrom are taken, then a Leshunov, Silayev, Buium, Dickinson could be interesting.
If you take LD Silayev or Buium then you can trade Ghule, Mathesson or Hutson.
And If a RD then Mailloux would be my trading piece, I'd keep Reinbacher over Mailloux.
Silayev - Reinbacher as top pair would be up in your face, no gap for the opposition.
But a Ghule - Leshunov, Hutson-Reinbacher would not be a bad top 4 pairing.
I still hope we can get Lindstrom 🙂.

Terevainens money will go to resign Guentzel and they need to give 8 mill to Jarvis - No money for Necas
also they might need somebody to the bottom D pair so maybe something like
Barron, Struble, Andersson/Armia 50% retained, Matheson
Trade #28 and Matteson to Columbus for Lindstrom, Demidov or what's available at 4. Then pick our #5.
There is a simple way to measure our GM's success or failure in the next few years (apart from winning the cup lol) is who he trades for in return for his plethora of defensive talent i.e. just don't do another SERGACHEV FOR DROUIN deal but trade ANY of the defensemen for someone who turns into a future 100 point center (hard to do but not impossible) /SUZUKI would be a great SECOND line center on a cup winner

Great show Folks…always trade weak and get strong..so keep Mailloux and Matheson and jacleye…good grief..
Xhekaj? Mailloux? Those two, plus Reinbacher...if the price is any of those 3, forget it. Take a lesser return and hold out ... draft Lindstrom if available at 5 or Iginla and be patient. Harris, Struble, Barron with Winnipeg's pick + prospect...Matheson or someone higher profile (not RD except Barron) for the right return. They drafted Reinbacher 5th when he was ranked 10's-20's and it made a stink doing it. Trade Mailloux and draft another RD all hell will break loose again.
Keep the young quality Dcore that's been built. Guhle I have mixed feelings about, injuries especially concussions are concerning. Willing to gamble Xhekaj's shoulders being okay, the combination of toughness, size and growing skills are much needed.

no i dont think any of those would happen . i dont see an upside with holloway and the canes wont trade us necas .
they dont have a lot of cap space imo . would have to be money in money out .
im looking at teams like jersey or detroit being a more welcoming partner in trade .
imo now is not the time to tie up any cap.that they will need in the next few years .flexibility is key .as well as having a deep talent pool .having too many players coming off elcs at the same time would/could be a problem .
they could pick up a alex nylander free of charge in the offseason for dirt cheap imo . im thinking the habs will go that route .pick up a busted first free

What's wrong with considering a trade for Holloway with the 10th overall pick in the NHL and acquiring a player like Martin Necas, who scored 24 goals last year and 28 the year before, totaling 71 points?
That’s way to much for Holloway, I wouldn’t even trade Mailloux alone for him. I don’t get the hype around this guy, look at this play or NHL/AHL stats and Mailloux is better as a D.
