    Knowing numerous persons with FASD, I have to say that the physical symptoms are often not correlative to external appearance.

      meaning the physical signs could be internal (like joint problems), as opposed to the facial features mentioned in the video?

      @@interestingrobot9247 Yes. Also I'd consider the neurological and intellectual deficits part of what is going on internally as well.

      A FASD person I know was born with cleft lip, undescended testis , very violent, and what I don't hear anyone talk about is the bad sexual behavior, in which I can't go into detail , CZcams censored . Some people with full FASD are sometime danger to self and other's and have to be in asylum.

    Thank you for this video. Its easy to understand from a consumers perspective. I will be using to show pregnant mama's in an effort to raise awareness on FAS and how to prevent it.

    I have FASD and while my IQ is on the higher end, I have trouble with co-ordination, and sometimes balance. I also have issues with meltdowns. At 70, I guess I should be grateful to have lived so long--and I am. It's just that my ife woud have been so much easier if my mum hadn't got hammered every weekend--we're talking drunk from Friday all the way to Sunday night. All I can do is do the best that I can.

      I've read that the father's sperm can also give you FASD . I'm wondering how many fathers are responsible as well

    Wonderful video I have FAS myself and I have been to a lot of therapy at a young age. And have to go into specialized classes for people whom have FAS. I’m doing well I do have a lot of trouble understanding. Yet all that I’m doing well yet life is very challenging and I’m 21 years old ☺️but I have a horrible time learning and I truly hate it, with math reading or just learning like in a normal classroom I just can’t even. 100% a normal school is so frustrating and I hated myself for not learning what everyone else was. I have a wonderful memory and a wonderful family. 🙌 without my birth parents. ^-^ but yes I did go to class yet I never had seizures. We learned life skills numeracy, literacy and other skills about how to live. We also did co-op in high school . I loved the program I was in also the teachers where wonderful! And I’m gifted with a pretty good singing voice on my channel. Despite having global delay, Fas and other disabilities. I’m a horrible speller and didn’t have much friends. And I still don’t I’m so shy and lol 😅I’m enjoying my life truly doing what I love. ♥️👏 yet I don’t blame myself for being this way. ^-^ thanks for the video.

    Good video. I do wish you had listed the behavioral symptoms seen when the frontal cortex is damaged, like impulsivity, difficulties with abstract thinking, judgement, emotional control, and sensory seeking behaviors. A majority of people with an FASD do not have the facial features you mention, as they are now thought to only occur within a 3 day period during early pregnancy.

    This is a frustrating video to watch. Recent FASD research has shown that facial abnormalities and height are only effected in a percentage of kiddos. My son is tall for his age and has no facial features. His diagnoses has been hard to get because of the lack of up to date and conprehensive education shared in the medical community. Keep researching.

    • @ChialukaGold
      @ChialukaGold Před 3 lety +5

      Wouldn’t need to keep researching if mothers didn’t drink and destroy their child’s lives

    • @lilia3944
      @lilia3944 Před rokem +3

      @@ChialukaGold The risk for FAS is highest when the mom drinks at the end of the first trimester, but it can happen earlier as well - and if you aren't trying for a baby and protection fails, you probably don't notice a pregnancy super early and might still drink alcohol and damage the baby without knowing.
      Now there are parents that just don't care about their babies health, or who don't care enough to get help for their addiction before trying for a baby, but that isn't always the case. And if it is, and children land in the system, a diagnosis can still be difficult to get, especially if you don't know if the birth mother consumed alcohol during pregnancy.
