This show at The Stone Pony was the final of six sold-out performances by Sturgill Simpson during a short tour in the United States that began on September 29, 2019 in Los Angeles, CA, and ended on October 8, 2019 in Asbury Park, NJ. Sturgill and his band donated all proceeds from this tour to the Special Forces Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides immediate and ongoing support to Army Special Forces soldiers, “Green Berets,” and their families. All ticket sales and merchandise profits went to this cause. "The Promise' was recorded and released on Sturgill's 2014 album "MetaModern Sounds in Country Music".
"The Promise" was originally released in 1987 on 10 Records, by the band When In Rome, and was their lead single from their self-titled debut album. It was written by all three band members, Clive Farrington, Andrew Mann and Michael Floreale. The song was released in the U.S. in 1988 and made it to number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
