This song sticks in my memory forever. It was 2016, my (now ex) husband had tried to unalive himself (on my birthday 12/12) shutting his kidneys down and had to be put on a vent. I had to work to keep insurance for us, and it was Dec. 22, my last day of school before Christmas break. After school, I was driving to the hospital to spend the night with him. This song came on while I was driving. I suppose the emotion and the weight of carrying all that got to me and I broke down and had to pull off the road. It still gets me when I hear it. Great version, I actually prefer this to the original.
About the ex-he made it through after being on dialysis for 4 months. After all the mental abuse & physical threats I left to save myself. Thanks to this video for having a new memory to think of when I hear it. ❤
Yes, besides his tremendous talent and hard work ethic, Sturgill inspires us to live life on our own terms.
Very few people really understand his message, I think you hit the nail on the head. When he did the Joe Rogan podcast, I became an ultimate fan.

I quit country music so long ago because there wasn’t a him. 😢 now that I know there’s a him I feel restored but so ashamed I didn’t look harder for him. Thank God for him.

I posted Brace for Impact as well as The Promise. Did you watch both videos? Besides those, I also have Oh Sarah, also from Newport. I was thinking of posting it but I don’t have the full song. I also have Sturgill’s entire acoustic solo performance from April 2018, opening for John Prine at Radio City Music Hall. I haven’t added it because the video is not good, but the audio is wonderful. I’ll be going to the Outlaw Festival on Sept 21, so I should have some awesome video from that! Also coming up is Farm Aid on Sept 22. I’ll do my best to get some awesome video of Sturgill and others!

My apologies Chris, for having to remove that video from my CZcams channel, but copyright and legal issues prevent me from being allowed to share it on this platform. I had filmed 7 different versions of Brace for Impact and all of them had to be removed, along with Sturgill’s Mercury in Retrograde and Sing-A-Long. 🙁
