i have done it both ways and have seen way too many videos of people getting hurt using fire. It takes a bit of work but it worked out in the end. Good luck.

I can guarantee you it works! He's the first video I have seen doing this. A veteran tire guy showed me this years ago. If the tire is stiff, put it in the sun or by a heater.
