  • In this video, I cover how to remove and install tires on a Beadlock wheel. Got a nasty flat on one of my rides (see other video) so I had to replace rear tires on my YXZ. Since dealers typically won't do beadlocks, I had to do it myself.

    Thanks for all your awesome videos. Question, do you have to change both tires if you blow similar to a car? I'm guessing that's why you did so, but wanted to check. Thinking I will have a spare without beadlocks to get me back to home base, and two tires if/when I need to swap. Thanks for your help!

      QUESTION.. SO YOU TAKE OFF BEADLOCK RING 1st BEFORE THE TRAILER TRICK ??

    • @crumguy321
      @crumguy321 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes, you need to take the beadlock off before you can dismount the tire. Be patient and careful unscrewing the 12 bolts, I wasn’t patient and stripped the bolt, and needed to buy a whole new rim

    mix up a little dish soap and water then coat the tire beads with that solution. You will find that the tire will slide much easier on the rim.

    Nice video. I'm about to do weld-on beadlocks on my older Jeep & found your video while looking for info. Maybe I missed it or maybe it doesn't apply to your UTV, but what do you do about making sure the tire is centered/balanced as possible? I'm concerned the 33" I'm installing will have more wobble than can be balanced with weights.

    • @RoughRidersTV
      @RoughRidersTV  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for the comment. I don't think it really applies to my SxS. We are not hitting highway speeds where balance would be a real issue. I know some folks toss in balance beads but I haven't found them necessary. 33 is a big tire for sure and a lot of rotational mass. If you are driving highway as well as trail, I could see that balancing would be desired.

    Question, I wanna send my beadlock rings to paint, only the rings. Do I need to take air out or anything in order to remove the ring or?

    • @RoughRidersTV
      @RoughRidersTV  Před 3 lety

      Yes, you should. Removing the ring will break the seal anyway so it's best to take the pressure off the bolts before loosening them.

    • @crazy3rdgen
      @crazy3rdgen Před 3 lety

      Thats where the drill comes in handy but do a cross pattern method a little at a time. You don't want to warp the ring.

  • @firstbase4947
    @firstbase4947 Před 5 lety +6

    when cleaning the bead ring,why would you do it right over the new rim that you just blew off, why not clean it away from the tire so dust and crap don't fall on your clean rim.

  • @water2sand621
    @water2sand621 Před rokem

    Great video. I recommend using a good anti-seize on the bead lock bolts. WD-40 will cause you “over torque” without realizing it.

  • @dutchb6863
    @dutchb6863 Před 5 lety +4

    Not to be rude it is a good video but when airing up the tire should have left it on the bucket and pushed down no need for the strap. The strap would come in handy on a non beadlock tire and wheel 👍

    • @RoughRidersTV
      @RoughRidersTV  Před 6 lety +1

      Yep, I considered that as well. I think I am gong to just fab up a bead breaker with some scrap square tubing. Shouldn't be too hard to do. I wouldn't mind brushing up on my welding skills again. MIG welders are pretty cheap these days.

      If you have an old bumper jack they work good the base is curved and goes around the rim nice.

    • @RoughRidersTV
      @RoughRidersTV  Před 2 lety

      Agreed. But then you would likely be changing the wheel and tire. I never carried just a tire on the trail. I think most people carry a full spare when out on the trail.

    I don't understand what the benefit of using a beadlock is. Most tire shops wont touch them. DIY takes a lot longer. Am I missing something?

    • @RoughRidersTV
      @RoughRidersTV  Před 4 lety +1

      Beadlocks actually clamp the tire edge in place. This allows you to air down really low without breaking the bead. This is helpful when you are in loose conditions like sand or need more tire surface for traction like rocks. Additionally, if you hit a corner really hard and the tire sidewalls want to roll from the lateral pressure on them, they won't lose the outside bead and you won't get a flat. Tire shops don't like them because they can't use automated machines on them. You have to remove and install each bolt by hand so it's not an efficient use of their labor.
