Ive had a welger RP12 baler for 31 years, but after making nearly 40,000 silage bales it was worn out. Ive now got a welger/ Lely RP235 with wide pick-up reel ,net tie and crop chopping knives, 20 years younger and twice as fast baling !!

I bought a Krone F130 baler, it's a little different than the Heston as it is a fixed chamber and does not use belts. I use a 40 HP Kubota tractor (32 PTO HP), does a great job. The Krone makes F130 makes 130 cm bales (German company) which equates to 4.26 feet, it is marketed here as a 4x4 baler but is actually slightly larger than 4 foot diameter. I too am a small farmer, just grow hay for my horses on a single 20 acre field. Growing my own hay was one of the best things I ever did. I now have a consistent, reliable supply of very high quality horse hay. Prior to doing this hay was always hit or miss, the quality and supply was never certain. Cow hay is much easier but not adequate for horses.

@@essickfarms7585 It's a grass mix. I planted what the local extension agent recommended for horses, has some timothy, alfafa, clover and other grasses I would need to look up. It does very well in my field. I fertilize it with horse manure regularly.

@@robertlee8714 did you have to use a seed drill? I thought about planning alfalfa.

@@essickfarms7585 No. I am not a real farmer, used what I had. In this case I used a 84" reverse rotation tiller and a three point cultipacker to prep the field. I planted with a three point broadcast spreader then ran the cultipacker one last time. It's a lot I know for 20 acres but it turned out nice, very smooth.

@@robertlee8714 you figured out how to plant a field by using what you have, you are a real farmer.I don’t have a seed drill so I’d probably have to plant it similar to how you did.

Hesston 530 here. I replaced the narrow smooth top belts with 6 inch rough top belts and it made a world of difference.

You have a nice baller, and the Hesston 540 operates better than my Hesston 530. With the 530 I must start out in first gear to get the bale to begin spinning and then shift to second gear to pick up the hay. If I use third gear, then the hay jams in the pick-up area (only have single windrows!) Yesterday after 22 bales the door started to open with only a half bale inside the chamber (both latches were locked in place to begin with!). Any idea what causes this problem? Had to use a square baler to finish picking up the hay.

What size tractor does that baler require? I'm in the market for small round baler. Great video!!!

My tractor is 55 hp 45 hp at the PTO it doesn’t have any trouble running the baler. That baler is small but it weighs a lot I’ve got some hilly Fields and I can feel it pushing some. I wouldn’t want to run it with a smaller size tractor. Thanks for watching.
