i know right, i just started watching f1 because of netflix. it's like bumper cars. no wonder it's a very expensive sport to get into. the possibility of crashing is 99% each race.

@@GODOFLIQUOR Thats the rental indoor karts and its better that they have that sort of protection if you look at the moron you see sometimes at karting tracks. I am racing in an indoor karting Championship and outside in a classic karting Championship with my old mach1 kart with 100ccm and 18hp.

He felt pain in his right knee for a while - taken from an Autosport interview:
"Just [on] the initial hit, I hit my knees together. I think it like was a nerve thing, so the first five minutes I could feel my right knee a little bit, but now it's normal, so it's OK."
Bottas's team radio captured him breathing heavily in the aftermath of the crash, about which he said 'the last hit into the TecPro it just took my breath out a bit - I noticed I forgot the radio was on".

Can we all take a minute to appreciate how well built these cars are? There are some damned hard impacts in this video and all the drivers are still alive and whole. 30 years ago these would have been deaths or grievous injuries.

They're still pretty bad, like Gio at Spa or Bottas at Mexico, but I get what you're saying; we haven't had any 'Ericsson-at-Italy' moments, nor have we experienced Hartley's 20 suspension failures. They just looker weaker in comparison. But it's good to see less serious crashes.

@@sgtepicspeed3033 Oh, it was old front wing which didn't work so good as a new one. Williams despite previous promises gave him on Quali. Hockenheim edition of the wing, that's why Kubica was so frustrated because this car hadn't driven like in FP.

Anyone noticed that nearly all of these crashes where either in FP or qualifying.
Its because Thats when they push the car to the max, so the crashes with the most g forces are taking place, i guess😂

FP is a good time to check the limits for the car, track, corners... and sometimes drivers try it too much ;)
That's is usually where the biggest crashes happen. In FP they see how far the car can go and what they can do and cannot do in the race and qualifying. Or they try different suspension setups etc. That does not always end well. In qualifying you are pushing the car to the absolute maximum every inch of the road. That also increases the risk of crashing. In the race, you just try to get to the line, so you don;t take stupid risks and you are not pushing it as hard as you can all the time because you have to conserve fuel and tires as well
And the first corner incidents, and the not so big crashes (like for example Vettel and leclerc where both cars only had problems on 1 wheel) are not included here. Only the big ones and such crashes ususally happen when the car is pushed to the absolute limit

You get used to crashing. Youre most likely busy with focusing on yourself to figure out whether or not you have been injured. At least thats what I did on my motorcycle crashes. You get emotional later.

You know what amazes about all the crashes. 1) the improvement of the integrity of these machines and 2) the pit team crews checking on the drivers. Talk about togetherness in the sport.

Yup. Just a few of these would make it to the top 10 of 2020 season and even then just barely.
2021
I was witness to 2 of these, both Magnussen in Canada & Albon in Hungary. Both were pretty huge and made sure to bring the crowds to a silence, which wasn't really a nice feeling, but knowing both were okay was the most relief I felt those weekends. I don't really want to witness something like that again in person, but I know I probably will at some point, to be honest.

If it was, they'd show a G-force meter. I think it's just on looks and camera angles.
It's based on how forces on your body react to acceleration and speed. So if you hit the barrier at a complete stop, you can't control you head like K-mag spa 2016. In f1 it really the head, as why there is headrests

@@Moerfel Especially when it's already been compromized by a couple of impacts beforehand. It is impossible to make racing (or life) 100% safe. Once in a while everything will line up for the worst possible outcome.
Still, several of these impacts would have been lethal at some point in history. One looked very similar to Sennas crash, with both front wheels coming off. In -94 the wheels were not wired to the car as they are now, which has greatly reduced the risk of getting a runaway suspension rod lodged in your brain.
Safety keeps evolving. Every new issue and technological developement will fuel this. Thankfully. For we want them all to come home safely.
