Thanks to your videos I purchased the Sony 200V, glad to see that I made the right choice
really good and informative review, thanks!
Awesome comparison video, setting up the links at the start of the video was *supremely* helpful. Thanks!
Great Review!
Thank you for all of these amazing reviews and comparisons. Just a few days ago I bought an AS200V for just 130€. Your videos helped me a lot to make my decision easier :). Keep up the good work!
Thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. Tell your friends ;)
nice as always
gopro hero+ is gopro hero1?

Thanks for the great review! Is the Sony AS200v good for snorkelling without the included underwater case?
+Kenton Chan No, you need the flat lens dive case. Otherwise the footage is muddy and blurry. The case it ships with is really only intended to protect from water damage, not allow it to film usable quality images underwater.
Hi I need help ... in my country Chile will not arrive submersible housing mpk as3 ... do you know where to buy this submersible housing ? I have seen in pages like amazon or ebay but I do not know if they are of good quality ... please help me
What about the audio? it's better on the Sony?
Hey Mark, great video's have watched a few. Very thorough and very informative great job. Have seen your drone a couple times in your vids, what drone is that a nd do you recommend?
is referred sony cover as200v water ?
AK3 says in the video but can not find .
Could you tell me the exact reference of the accessory.
Thank you.
+Diego Robayo This one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HPM07U4?keywords=sony%20underwater&qid=1447444572&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1
Hi Mark great videos, I am debating v200 or the x1000v is it worth spending that extra money?
Also for me i do a lot have hand held shots so this is what is leaning towards the sony Cam I really like the fact it has that image stabilization, is it reason enough ?
+Andrew Head I really like the X1000V but if you aren't going to be taking advantage of the super slow motion or 4k, I'd go with the AS200V. Both are pretty good. Have you seen this comparison we did? czcams.com/video/GuCUbw5_jlY/video.html
+MarkHawkCam Hi Mark, Thanks for the feed back, yeah i did watch both, a few times actually. and i have now ended up going with the as200v, because i don't have a huge editing setup or a 4K tv and the amount of data that even that one will provide, i think will be more than enough for me to handle. on a side note I would like to make a suggestion that at the end of your videos you do a summary and maybe do a quick pros and cons section, sometimes these are subjective but you do have a wealth of knowledge so i think people will listen to you and it would round your videos of really nicely. Keep up the good work and maybe one day i will bump into you in Big Bear :)
+Andrew Head Been adjusting somethings base off suggestions like this. The reasons why I don't normally do an overall summary is because it's added work to cut in video over new VO, adds more time to the video thats already pretty long (average view vs output), and I feel I end up repeating a lot of what I said in each section. Mainly it's time during production and length of video that stops me. I have started adding summaries to our reviews though. Still working to improve the formula and come out with videos for people who want to know which is the best camera for what adventure. Hopefully I can find a way to get it all done somehow... :/ Thanks for the feedback :D
Very informative :)
Was that a prerecorded comparison, or are you doing new ones at the moment? :)
+NicMediaDesign I recorded the footage sometime ago. On my plate for the next 1/2 weekends for filming is the AS200V vs the Session and a big 3 Way Side by Side with the Hero4 Black, DJI OSMO, and Sony X1000V... Then a ton of other videos but those are the two big "get out there and film" ones.
should I get the as200v or the Kodak pixpro sp1? I'm stuck between the two
+VagraintPuncher I would go with the AS200 based off my experiance with the SP360. Never used the SP1 but Kodak might have something new soon with the SP line and SP360 line.
+MarkHawkCam thank you so much for the reply. picked up the as200v because it's on sale for $200 at best buy right now. Thx again
Raw Image link missing :/
Gopro marketing machine will have to work lots of extra time to sell many of these 2nd rate cameras. Sony vid quality so much further ahead now than gopro... Gopro doesn't even have image stabilization which pretty well all competition now has. If they don't come up with something better in 2016, they will be history...
Mark, can you please tell me what is the flat lens for underwater filming? is this the item number? AKA-RD1?
+Tom Tom There should be a link in the more information section below this video.
+Tom Tom Actually sorry, double checked and it wasn't there. Added now but here's the link: amzn.to/1KissI2
The Sony also has GPS and the better live streaming service!
+AJS79 GoPro has teamed up with Parascope App for streaming.
Hi Mark, so with the he AS-200V if I use steady shot does that mean that my picture quality would not be as good as if I don't use steady shot? Thanks heaps
I have that Sony cam and its only difference in angle
+PurreGold There is a dip in quality. Similar when going from 60fps to 120fps. Not nearly as strong but it's there. I would say it's not enough to detour you from using it though.
+MarkHawkCam hey mark, first of all i wanted to say that i really admire your work, really professional and always as objective as possible. after watching your videos i got my hands on a as200 and i wanted to ask you if you have some specific advice on editing the footage of the as200 to get the best possible video quality? i think a video of you showing your workflow on editing one of your videos as an example would be great and appreciated by your followers.
thank you!
+powPueblo Not a bad idea. Been wanting to do some tutorial videos. Currently rebuilding some hardware from my main machine but hoping to wrap that up soon and start producing a lot more content like this.
Personally I'd make sure you have a good micro sd card. You'll want a XC formatted card with at a UHS-1 or UHS-3 class. XC formatted cards allow the camera to enable XAVC-S mode for a higher bit rate. I then depending on the situation rotate 1080p 30fps or 60fps. 30fps for low light or darker and 60fps when outside. That's about it. Everything else is default. I'd experiment with using Steadyshot too. It's a great option to keep your playback footage enjoyable to watch. I personally use Adobe Premiere Pro CC. You can rent it monthly and be up and running with 1-2 10 minute youtube tutorials. However to start, Sony's ActionCam software is free and fairly straight forward. I'd use that for a while till you really get into making edits then switch over if you don't mind the month to month cost. Think it's a few bucks but you get 2 licenses per account. So you can always go in on it with someone and share the account.
+MarkHawkCam Thank you for your answer! first of all its great to hear that you are considering to make some tutorial videos, i think if they will be as great as your other videos, they are really professional and you have a good voice and style of explaining things without beeing boring.
The image quality is really amazing for only using XAVC-S mode and default settings, plus you had amazing weather and view for your shots..the weather here in Austria is mostly grey and cloudy the last days an weeks at least we have some fresh snow
For my as200 i bought a kingston microSDXC 64GB that writs up to 80MB/s and for editing i think i might take Final Cut i think that will suffice for editing my snowboard, surf and travel footage :)
You should refer to them as the Sony and GoPro. It was exhausting to hear you Continually saying the Sony hdr as200 vr1762227894322lmnop is better at low light, however the Gopro hero 4.0 lcd xyz 1742222223+ is more famous.
+LeviathantheMighty Sorry, didn't name them. Am not a fan of the complex name of the Sony series.
You're supposed to turn off stabilization when on a tripod. Otherwise you're trying to stabilize the rotation of earth.
Lol
i like how you have to hold your nose underwater
+VvPrime TimevV Not that it's to interesting... but I go over it in this review: czcams.com/video/obXPaOJ_EVk/video.html
Sony action cameras beat the shit out of gopros for a better price, but there accessory ecosystem cannot match up. Honestly if sony had a better marketing strategy, or atleast a higher budget for it, sony could become the dominant action cam supplier.
Just wanted to mention there are some mount adapters from Recmount and PolarPro that allow you to use the GoPro mounting system with other cameras. Doesn't help with all mounts but does open up the Sony camera line to other mounts on the market.
I really dislike the timelapse-thing on the sony cameras. I would love to be able to use it to shoot continous high Resolution inmages from a RC plane. Instead I only get 2MP 1080p shots...Sony is just really bad in supporting their products with a proper firmware.
+BlackPixxelDE Someone recently linked me to a 3rd party app that allowed you to take full res timelapses with the Sony cameras. If I find it I'll swing back and post it here.
+BlackPixxelDE Here you go: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thibaudperso.sonycamera&pageId=107766410515533838904
Awesome, thanks. But I guess that you have to stay connected to your camera the whole time, which is not possible if it is 200m above you :D
+BlackPixxelDE hmmm... yeah this might not work in this case. I guess the app is forcing the photos over and over instead of push on till push off.
on 6:40 he has the same water bottle as me
+The Amazing Place Stay thirsty my friend...
MarkHawkCam Hello sir! I need your help ... in my country Chile will not arrive submersible housing mpk as3 ... do you know where to buy this submersible housing ? I have seen in pages like amazon or ebay but I do not know if they are of good quality ... please help me
My comment was a bit abrasive, sorry. I just really dislike Sony's naming for their camcorders, you can't tell which camera is newer, cheaper, or anything based on their idiotic names. I even think they're better than the gopros quality wise. It's almost like Sony wants to make sure the cameras dont sell. It would be easier for future videos to just hear Sony's cam.... Gopros camcorder... because you know which cameras are being compared because the wording is there.
+LeviathantheMighty Nah don't worry about it. Don't mind the criticism and it's valuable feedback on both fronts. Thanks for writing back. Wasn't joking about Sony's naming process either. Completely agree. Would like to see them fully commit to the "ActionCam" sub name that they have been embracing for years.
