- Disassembling an engine that has run faultlessly for over 30-years, my quest to rebuild a 1992 Honda XRV750 takes me on a journey into the world of a Ducati V-Twin engineering master. Featuring Brook Henry, the mastermind behind Vee-Two Australia, a company that restores and re-engineers some of the greatest, most classic Ducati Engines ever made.

Aside from exceptional storytelling that you present I also love the old-school values that you share in your movies. Praise for craftsmanship. Respect for quality irrespective of date of product. Glad to see I am not the only one to still value these :)
LOL dream on romantic. What old-school values? To leave the engine mostly undone and dirty when rebuilding, actually not rebuilding just changing pistons and adjusting the cylinders? Something commonly done on the road in decades before, as a repair fix or maintenance, when traveling far on a fragile or old engine. Or the old-school values to stick with complicated badly measuring produced engines of italian design that require a lot of fitting alignment to make them turn when cases are closed? I’ve seen all the struggle and went through some minor of it myself with my old bikes. No old bikes are what they are, but not great, just good enough at the time. And the well done bikes of today are so much better and have to be so. Old-school values, lol. New-school precision, and new-school solid materials how about that? Sure there’s a lot of crap around, but that and more has been around then, even with the big names.
Take a Bevel-Drive and go around the world, or just for a Ride across the long stretches of dirt road Australia, you have to rebuild it from scratch to much higher standard than it has ever seen, veetoo may get it there. Even doing a big trip on tarmac, i.e. Northcape to Agadir, the italian girl with the great old-school values will go through a proper sweat. None for the 20years younger japanes, sure, but even less for any of today’s cheap transalps, T7 or whatever.
Get a bit more marmelade on your bread it sure helps living sweet dreams.
As a mechanic, I love to see this kind of videos and the testimonial of old school mechanics so full of knowledge and passion. It's one of the best feelings to rebuild an engine and fire it up for the first time and that sentiment of seeing it work like a clock it's so rewarding! Love your videos Adam, wonderful work!
Boys , let’s not forget the riding skill set. As much as we love the story telling and The Warhorse , Adam is a serious rider !
The Warhorse series should win an emmy award ;)
BS you are watching niche...it doesn't put a blip on mainstream. I like it though.
In this modern throw-a-way society we now live in, you’ve demonstrated how much fun can be had on a bike that’s had 30 years to mature. You’ve given the Warhorse the TLC she needs to continue with many more adventures for years to come. You’ve shared with the community those old school vibes of learning how to do jobs from a necessity perspective; from basic maintenance, trail-side repairs to more complex tasks, all whilst showing there isn’t anything to be scared of. Learning new skills keeps our body & mind engaged.
I learnt to strip an engine & re-build it so my parents didn’t have to spend money paying labour rates before I was working. Over the past 35+ years my tool box has grown, because tools are cheaper than paying someone else. Fixing things is like therapy.
Adam, I'm already looking forward to the next episode.
I'm travelling the world on my africa twin, just arrived on the third continent with it. and these vids just make me love it soooo much more
Post some videos or link your channel
I road raced Japanese in line fours and owned many sport bikes in the same configuration. I thought them to be superior to anything else in performance and durability, never to consider anything else. Until my banker lent me his Ducati 999S for a summer. I road on the best roads in Northern California and fell in love with the V Twin. The low end grunt and torque with an intoxicating sound to match. But more than anything combined, the bike has character. I came to prefer that soul a v twin offers and have always been thankful for my friend Charles providing the opportunity to grow.
I’m in love with motorcycles man , and the v twin is the cover girl.
I bought an XRV750 RD04 earlier in the year, it was a bit of a pup that needed a lot of work. The output shaft was shagged along with other stuff that had worn so had the engine out to start the rebuild. Replaced the output shaft, re-ringed it, carbs cleaned and balanced and so on.....runs like a new bike now and definitely a keeper.
How awesome does the Vtwin with the Akro sound echoing through the bush. Great to see the passion that Brooke has, hard to find these days. Just listing to him, you know your getting quality.
Feeling jealous of your knowledge and know how. As an XRV750 RD04 owner I can only dream of riding the stuff you do. Keep the content coming! ❤
Same here bruh.
But amma make dem dreams come true. Gonna live that life. Soon.
With the help of God.
God bless you my dear friend.
Great to hear that V2 engine roar into its new life. Love your films, what an inspiration after scouting in mud and forests today on my Transalp 600 (not a legend, but a reliable donkey). Günter/Nürnberg
I enjoy these series so much, I cannot even describe it. My dream bike
That second you blipped the throttle you can hear how much more crisp it is than before. That Akro changes the whole RD04 too. Awsome job
I love that you are that familiar with the horse, just from watching the films 👍
@@MotologyFilms I was actually in the market for a T7 when I stumbled across your video where you restored the frame. This made me go back and watch every single video of the warhorse. I then went out and bought a '92 RD04 because of you instead of the T7 and for that I thank you. It's the best bike I've ever owned. 🤙
@@Fortlox_ September last year I knew nothing about these old Africa Twins. They weren't on my radar. Even when I bought the bike I was in the mindset I'd just sell it after the trip or leave it Norway with my brother in law. 1000km into that first journey I was in love ... the rest is history.
@@MotologyFilms I look forward to seeing what the future holds for both of your RD04s. 🤜🤛
Hard to go-past a v-twin for riding-experience .Brook Henry is The-Man , making legends stay alive . I foolishly sold my old 750 GT Ducati , now in my old-age I ride an 82 XV1000 (TR1) which is a remarkably-similar-ride Dave nz
The production, passion, knowledge, riding skills, editing, personality...the list goes on why this channel is one of the best on CZcams period. Well done, I am always looking forward to the next adventure/episode 🙏💜👏
Brook Henry built my bike for me over thirty years ago (a 1978 Ducati SD900 "Darmah"), He really is a legend.
That's great. I suspected some of you guys would already know of Brook's work
Great video as always. Pleasure to watch and "experience" those moments through those episodes.
Good for another 30 years.
At 51 I must say: Motorbikes have almost killed me... But, they have also kept me alive. I wish you all good health and more time with friends for 2024!
Something i can relate to as well. But im here for a good time
The battle sound and beating heart of adventure, thanks Adam
I would love a video of you and the old-timer taking motorcycle anything!
Loved the chat with Brook! I'm being a bit selfish here, but would be great to see more videos picking his brain! Thanks for taking us on your journeys ♥️🏍️🎉
Knowledge like that needs to be saved the man is a master at his craft it has to be passed down
For new people to learn
Credit has also got to given to the original Japanese engine builders they took pride in what they were doing.
I wish people had pride in there work like the Japanese used to have true masters that’s why the legend of the Africa twin lives on
I believe you're right. Modern production quality is being compromised for maximum profit @@sean172
Amazing story! Now i have the motivation i needed for refreshing my rd07. Cheers from Sweden!
Great to see you reviving the war horse! It sound amazing. I just pick up my 2019 AT BLK& Gold Setting her up for spring riding the backroad around Bend Oregon
Great video.....Thanks again Adam......All the best from Canada!
Thank you for the wonderfull videos of 23 Adam, your ahead of us, here in Germany we still have 30 mins to go till '24, So here's to an even more exciting biking year to all in Oz and around the world. Let new adventures begin. Happy New Year Adam.🍺🍺Prost and 🥃 Slainte
That thing sounds as smooth as silk
She sounds like a lion roaring with the dB killer out! I love it! The sound of an uncorked v-twin is intoxicating 😈
Great stuff old school engineering
what a humble legend Brook Henry is great story , what a way to end another awesome year looking forward to 2024 Adventures
Well produced, again. Bravo!
I was so nervous for that first start wondering if it would fire up like it always does. Still has the magic. Wow. Awesome work.
I had to tell myself everything was good to go but I was stressing about starting her. Such a relief and was blown away to hear how crisp and smooth she now runs.
I don’t have a mechanical or engineering bone in my body to truly understand my own bike’s engine wish I did but I appreciate the passion & knowledge others like Brook & yourself Adam have…but mate the growl of the horse as she came through the trees in that last part of the vid 👌🏼👌🏼
I can watch warhorse Videos all day Long 😂❤Love IT 🎉thanks Adam 😊
Thank you motivating me adam 🙏🏻👍 that was awesome
As a motorcycle lover, I like and wait for your videos ..
Stay Blessed
TC
Only one word.... PASSION
The Vee Two Team makes a great job. Have had camshafts im my Cagiva Gran Canyon. Works exelent...75HP at wheel. Left Hand for Greating...DlzG from BRD
Love your passion for the Warhorse. She sounds & looks amazing! 😊😊😊
Hi from a new subscriber. Got directed by CZcams to your channel and have really enjoyed the war horse story. The trains you love that bike are exactly why I love my Super Tenere 1200. You can't beat a big twin with a personality 👌🏻😎
I personally repaired my engine from an XRV 750. The only failure was the transmission bearing housing clearance due to aggressive off road driving. Only with the xrv am I safe to drive the Alps.
Yes.
Hell yes.
Great stuff mate.
Well done.
Well done Adam!!!
Just nuts how such a old bike can rip. Giving the war horse so much love and attention.. I should do the same to my own XL650V Transalp and take her out to some adventure riding. You and Pedro Mota really are inspirations to the younger generations of bikers and those who want to become one. Cheers.
Awesome rebuild n vid Adam, thank you
Hi Adam, my names Toby and I'm 14 years old. I've been following your channel for a couple years now and I love your videos. I love motorbikes and I've put all how to videos and bike set-up videos to good use on my BW kx85. Love your vids, keep it up.
Thanks Toby. I love the KX's. My first ever new bike was a '96 KX250, then got a '96 KX500 and later got a 99 KX250.
And your first bike was an RM80, I've been following you for a while. @@MotologyFilms
Yeah, you did it mate…!!
Awesome, love it Thanks
Now that’s a great video, thanks for sharing🏴🏴👍👍
Makes me miss my old Cagiva Elephant - very similar bike from the same era and also with a great engine.
I have been repairing engines for 30 years. Nice to see that there are still some dudes of us around. But you also have to admit that an LC4E from 1990 can't keep up with the new 690.
Or maybe the 990 Adventure, a milestone with a mega sound with a 1090 Adventure R. It's just nostalgia that keeps these motorcycles alive.
And that's good. Everyone is having fun.
But the feeling of starting a completely overhauled engine can only be understood by someone who has already done it.
The Warhorse is not an overly powerful bike, it winds up like a diesel. But letting her torque pull through each gear change is a novelty that never wears off. It is such a pleasure to ride, even on the most boring roads or trails.
@@MotologyFilms Most riders are no longer able to drive a motorcycle that does not come with ABS or traction control. Or a vital Bluetooth connection to the dashboard. We see a lot of overwhelmed drivers at the TET who believe they can beat the competition with technical experience. I cannot set my motorcycle to off-road mode. I'm in off-road mode. I know exactly what you mean. It is also an attitude. Just keep it up.
Good ol Danny 👍🏼👍🏼
Every single video on your channel is a pure masterpiece 👌👌👌
Nice to see the V2 getting the attention it deserves! T-shirts ordered 😎👍🏻
🙏
master storyteller as always, a pleasure listening to u :)
Wow that angelical sound
Nothing short of Epic Passion Adam ‼️….. incredible my friend 👏👏♥️😊
Edwin
Thanks for an incredible video Adam. That was very insightful. I have just recently purchased a second hand XL700V Transalp and it's V Twin motor sounds gorgeous.
This is awsome!
In my youth (say - a few decades ago...), I had posters of only two bikes in my room; Africa Twin and CBR1000
Love the "horse feed" Bottle!
Enjoyable viewing as usual. These Honda V twin engine are my all time favourite. I ran a 1990 transalp 600 for years and lots of miles. Now I have A 2003 deauville 650 because I wanted shaft drive and tubeless tyres so I can plug them out on the road. I intend on touring very far with it so I bough a facet fuel pump and a spare mosfet regulator rectifier unit the only weak Areas with these bikes the valve clearence is adjusted with screw 6 locknut but doesn't go out of sinc nor the carbs they stay in tune and With regular oil changes filters spark plugs and coolant and keeping up with the maintence schedule they keep on going. English couriers have put as much as 280000 miles on these engines. I also have a 1989 Honda Bros 650 same engine in a light alloy beam frame. My favourite engine in probably the best motorcycle frame ever made. Life is sweet.
"It's not magic... it's engineering." ❤
That initional turn over and it starts right up .That is a rush and a sign it was worth it .I never get tired of that .Well done .
So impressed by the quality of your videos, your mechanical skills and how you create such a passionate an interesting story about the Warhorse. This beautiful machine seems to have a soul that you've unleashed that goes beyond its mechanical parts. Amazing!
Love this episode on so many levels. The passion for developing timeless technology and the humbleness to do it as it should be. 🤟
As a BMW motorrad tech I can say I have rebuilt alot of Engines, Many K1600 engines, As with everything over the years you learn more and more, I did my VFR800 engine a few years back at 69,000 miles and it's just ticked over 140k miles, nothing gives you pleasure then riding a motor you have built especially when you're just a poor tech like me :).
This rebuild turned the Warhorse into a beast. Can´t wait for the next episode.
She's strong and punchy now. I'll get her on a dyno one day
Wow! Another lovely video that filled in mu heart! The biggest mystery for me is how you managed to source original Honda 0.25 pistons....it took me ages to find repair pistons for my XRV 650 and there was only one German company producing the 0.25 pistons and piston rings...so I waited like 19 months for them.
Sweet sound . I’m almost crying for my 18year old vstrom situation 😅
Those old bevel drives are something, the red one in the video, the Darmah,or Tiger. A friend had one, still has it.
I rode a lot behind it on my RD350, the noises it made were great, the backfires at crucial moments were deafening, like a cannon.
Love seeing the War Horse get the attention it loves, shes quite the beast.
Awesome to see vee two! There's a Vee Two Squalo for sale over at my Ducati specialist here in the Netherlands and I've always wondered what kind of company was behind that. Now I know,
Always a treat to see your notification pop up Adam!
Thanks for taking us along!
Heading out on an adventure on my Norden 901 this weekend and the inspiration from your videos is as big a reason as anything!
Thanks
🏍️💨
Thoroughly loved it. ❤
Your editing skill and passion for this sport is off the chart. Many thanks!
What a magic moment for the War horse
How good does she sound
Looking forward to the next chapter
Nice work
Thanks
Dave
9:20 as a motorcycle enthusiast the next minute or two sounds like magic.
lol "Horse Feed!"
what a sound! last 10 seconds of the video!!!
Technically beautiful. The arts of engineering. Thanks Adam Rieman.
The war horse lives to run another 30 years.......The letters on the gas can is priceless......love the sound of that motor....Look at her go...the horse loves to run and run she does. Great job!
That. Healthy. Sound.
love your videos. especialy the warhorse trips
Great build! Awesome!
Oh yerrrrr.
Adam thankyou for your phylosopy on motor cycles.
I feel like you are in the zen and the art of motorcycle maitanance crew.
Brook Henry is a god in my eyes. I had Ducati's for about 30 years. One of them had a brook Henry gearbox.
Nothing beats the feel of a Ducati.
I was a bit disappointed that the new Ducati desert X had it's airbox in the wrong spot and it didn't use the Evo 1100 air cooled motor that we first saw in the development bike. In my opinion adventure bike's should be simple oil over air cooling.
Bevel drive valve is also so easy to deal with. And once you get the hang of desmo valves they are a beautiful thing.
Ride on into the sunset you ledgend
Such a pleasure to watch and listen. Keep on going and a happy, healthy 2024! 💯
I couldn't help but notice the elegance of the coolant union sleeve joining the 2 cylinders. Absolutely brillant of simplicity and robustness. Anybody would have used a piece of rubber hose.
nice but would have liked some more in depth build content and what improvements were done etc
Your passion really shines through in all of your videos. I feel for the warhorse like it's one of my own prized bikes even though it's on the other side of the world. Thank you for sharing this journey and for future travels.
Magnificent work full of passion. Spectacular sound. I love the xrv
Another stellar video
Hey Adam. Loving it sick. Cheers John from Gold Coast
Your stories with the warhorse are now legendary!
Lovely video mate.
To let you know, you're one of the biggest reasons why I am so interested into offroading and why i've done the trips I have done.
Thank you for that.
Brook Henry is a modern day Burt Munro the passion these guys have for perfecting builds is astonishing. I mean how can go at something for decades and not burn out?
He's the real deal. Brook knows his way around a motor
ABC TV here in the west did feature article on Brook, I just googled "ABC TV article on Brook Henry" It is headed "Ducati master re-creates Mike Hailwood's Isle Of Man-winning motorcycle and engine parts in tiny WA town"
The sound of music. V_twin music. Love that. Thanks Adam
The Workhorse engine rev beatifully. Awesome sound with the Arkra exhaust.
That's Awesome Adam, great video of Vee -Two Australia , love it!!
Good deal. Always remember not only your efforts but the help of the others who care and like to see you succeed. It will last longer that way. Looked like new inside.
Horse Feed! Love it
