I think this incident is a healthy limit on player empowerment. Durant was abusing his 'superstar leverage' on a selfish tantrum and got checked. It wasn't just the money they were spending, KD and Kyrie were demanding the Nets make objectively bad trades and signings so they could get their buddies on the team which has resulted in the Nets being a much worse basketball team than they could have been. He’s basically the chaperone for a high school grad party full of talented but selfish children who only have him there because someone is supposed to supervise them and they figured they could get away with the most if he was at the helm. He’ll get no credit if they win 60+ games and make a finals and a bunch of criticism if they lose even though his diva star players literally said out loud that they could run the offence. The whole situation is truly pathetic and I honestly hope it goes well just so we don’t have to watch it crash and burn….with Ben Simmons of all players trying to make his way to the dance floor after standing in the corner with a cup of fruit punch all night.

This off-season has just proved that KD isn’t that dude. Even though I hated the GS move, I could at least understand it and even almost defend it in hindsight since he performed so well and seemed like their #1 option (or at least 1B to Steph) but now? Now I think he’s proven himself to be what we all thought he was when we first heard the news about him joining the Warriors. I don’t think he’s got it in him to be the undisputed best player on a championship roster, I don’t think he’s an alpha. I think he’s a childish, fragile player who just can’t handle that kind of pressure and expectation. Good on the Nets for not bending to his demands, because I would’ve told him that his two options are either play out his contract, or ride out his contract from the bench

I was with you up until not being the best player on a championship roster. KD put up 48 in Game 7 versus the Bucks. The bucks went on to win the title. If KD wins that game, maybe the Nets win the title instead? Also, childish.. perhaps but seems a terrible word choice, fragile? You know this dude came back from a torn Achilles right? That injury is basically career ending for the majority of players.

@@jonathansykes4986 I’m not calling him physically fragile, sorry if that didn’t come across but I meant mentally. And childish is not a poor choice of words we’re talking about the dude who was clapping back to Twitter haters with a burner account, went to Brooklyn to build this exact scenario he’s in and now he wants out because it didn’t work, not to drag Lebron into the conversation but we know how the media would be reacting if he did the same thing. He can’t hack it. He doesn’t have that dog in him. And In terms of him not being the best player on a championship team, I’ll believe otherwise whenever he shows it to us. He might be a unicorn and fill up the box score with otherworldly scoring but that hasn’t translated to really any amount of post season success yet, the only time he’s ever appeared in a finals he’s had at least one (and arguably at least two) future hall of famers on his team. I’ll agree he got some bad luck against the Bucks but that’s the only time he’s come close to making that case for himself.

My problem about player empowerment is that the movement only empower superstars, who don't really need that empowerment. When players get traded, they have to move their family and learn to settle in a new city. If a player is constantly moved around, it is bad for their mental health and stress level. Now we celebrate all these superstars moving around as if those moves can make the lives of average role players better. The fact is that when a star request a trade, role players got moved around like pawns. Superstars like Harden and Durant makes a ton more than an average NBA player, and moving from one city to another is not as much of a burden for them.
