    In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens czcams.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 3 lety +1

      It depends on how you want to offset the depth. If you are trying to take into account the depth of the water inbetween the surface and the transducer, then you set it to a negative number. If you are trying to add in the depth of let's say a keel sticking down below your vessel and the transducer that is located above it, then you would set it to a positive number.

    Please explain your pyramid geometry picture.
    Timewise, a vertical picture line at the very top of the display is recieved just now, while a line printed half inch lower from the top was recieved some 10 seconds ago….so your pyramid top and bottom represents a time and boat position difference if crusing.
    if a fish is right under the boat, it shows up in the water column on both sides of the midline….the closer to the midline the two dots are, the closer to the boat/surface. If they show up close to where the bottom starts further away from the midline, they are close to the bottom.
    A fish further to the side, is difficult to position, the only help is if it is big enough to cast a shadow on the bottom, and then imagine a focused torch shining at it from the midline (at the water surface) creating the shagow, and judge its position from that.
    I do not understand your statement, that you miss a part of the bottom? When you see a known bottom structure right under the boat, that extends further to each side of the boat, a log or a sunken boat f.ex., it shows up on both sides with the expected geometry (depending of boat speed vs scan speed) in the graphics. Please explain….kind regards h.

    • @nightanddaymarine8823
      @nightanddaymarine8823  Před 2 lety

      Yes there is an area that is missing on the sidescan and that's the area directly beneath the black water column area. The sidescan imaging isn't a full 180 degree sweep. It's like two 70 degree beams shooting out on both sides. The area that you do not see on the sidescan that is directly below you is the area that shows up on your downscan. It doesn't just take a full image of the bottom and then split it in half for the left and right view.
      And the pyramid image is it help visualize that the black water colum area that you are seeing is at a downward angle. So a fish that shows up on it is going to be so many feet down and so many feet to the side. It won't show any fish that are directly beneath you. They will be out to the sides of you when they appear. But again the fish directly beneath you, will show up on the downscan imaging instead.

      Go to this link and its like the third image down. That's for the most part what it's like. Altho there is a little more overlapping with the down and side beams. www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/835191-transducer-placement.html#&gid=1&pid=2

    Hi, in the start, I hear you say the (black) water column stretches out 20 feet to each side, and that you do not see the bottom right below the boat
    …..this is not true in my view…..the water column stretches 20 feet down, as the boat is on 20 feet of water…..and structure or fish right under the boat close to the bottom shows up in the picture close to the 20feet distance line on both sides of the centerline. So the bottom seen at both sides at 20 feet is right under you, but 20 feet down. Fish further out to the side will show op at their distance from the transducer as light hits them (as if iluminated by a torch) and cast a shadow on the bottom where the straight line from the transducer to the fish hits the bottom……kind rgds Henrik

      My understanding is the same as yours… The empty area in the centre is the water directly below. When you start getting structure on the display, that’s when you start counting the distance to either side. For example, if you’ve got 20 feet of water below, you’ll only start seeing structure at the 20 foot line either side, then you can start calculating the distance away from your location. With 20 feet of water below, the 40 foot line on either side means the object you’re seeing is only 20 feet away. I may be getting this wrong, but that was my interpretation of how this feature works?

      Lol why do you think I make all of these videos??!! Tho it's not always customer service's fault. Granted their tier 1 support is sub par, but their senior techs are usually pretty knowledgeable. But Navico's logistics and inventory forecasting is absolutely terrible! They are usually out of stock on almost ALL products for the first 3 or 4 months of the year, every year! Plus they can't keep up with production as well. They are in serious need of a factory expansion!
