Same here - 55! I’ll add one and say I also remember watching Julia on WGBH after Mr. Rogers. In the days before PBS advertised other shows they played Take 5 by Dave Brubeck between broadcasts. Not a bad way for the under 5 set to pass an afternoon: puppets, French cooking and jazz. 2/3 of that is exactly the same today! ♥️

I am a huge Jacques Pepin fan. As soon as I discovered him I realized how useless the Gordon Ramsays of the world are. They don't show you how to cook but they only seem to want to impress you.
Jacques never wants to impress, he just wants to cook and he wants you to share his passion about cooking. I literally cannot get enough of him.

My husband’s grandma is a native French speaker from Canada. She was sent to an English speaking convent school at the age of twelve, and from there married a Ukrainian man and never spoke a word of French again in her life. At 95 years old, she has a strong accent, but cannot speak a word of French. I could never believe that French was her mother tongue, her accent always sounded so strange to me compared to other French Canadians I’ve heard. After hearing Jacques Pepin speaking English this is almost exactly the same accent that grandma has! French after all!

I am slightly irreverent to famous chef's ideas on "that one special kinda way of doing something". Because of strong ideas of my own ;). I do it with kinda same ingredients and ratios - but with added vinegar and tiny amount of sugar, omit the scallions and serve it cold. I tried it exactly as described above, served it luke warm. Mind blown. Now I realize slowly why Jacques Pépin is a bloody legend.
