The Coelian or Flakpanzer 341 is one of the vehicles that was removed from the German tank tech tree. It's a pretty good SPAA, but not a great tank destroyer.

They probably shouldn’t have removed because it at least had a wooden mockup. As far is I know though. The Ostwind 2 never even had one.
Ho - Ri Production never even had a mock up as far as I'm concerned

The Ostwind 2 in game is apparently completely made up as well, War Thunder has a normal Ostwind turret with two cannons, while in reality it would have gotten a completely new turret.
Also it is not known wether a prototype was build or not, if there was one build no images exist.

The Ostwind II is so fake that the gun mount they gave it is wrong... The guns can't work in that configuration, since the shells of one gun would eject into the other gun. This is why the ground mount 3.7cm flakzwillings are arranged vertically, not horizontally. The naval mount however is arranged horizontally, but the guns are turned sideways so they feed from the top.
Fun fact, the '341' is actually the designation for the turret! The entire vehicle is actually called the Flakpanzer 554 :)

@@rafaelsousa5 they need to fix the designation of the T95, because the T28 was it's final designation, with or without its outer sections of track.
The ingame Coelian is actually the paper Daimler-Benz and Krupp design that used Flak 44s. The Coelian that had the mockup turret built was the Rheinmetall-Borsig with a different turret and experimental 37mm Flak 341 cannons. Therefore, similarly to the Panther II, there is still the "real" version that could be added to the game.
What is the experimental flak 341 cannons and how do they differ from the flak 44?

When they removed the 341 it left a gap in the AA line for Germany that they never really filled would’ve be nice if they’d left this in over the ostwind II which never even existed in any aspect

I'm mildly frustrated because of the stock belt, when you have access to the 100 % belts.
Since there is practically no reload, one could just change the ammunition type after the first shot if anticipated.
Also, the improved HE belt has Minengeschoss with the 914 m/s muzzle velocity!

I have over 700 battles in this thing, absolutely love this AA, and boy is it frustrating to see him just use stock belt.
Minengeschoss will literally oneshot any aircraft if it connects

The thing with SPAA fire is you have to 'run a buzzsaw' on the enemy plane. Essentially instead of trying to aim perfectly for the plane by leading it and following along its trajectory, you aim well ahead of its expected flightpath and 'walk' the fire into it by moving opposite/into its trajectory. That way you're much more likely to intersect and hit it, since you're basically laying down a wall of fire for the plane to run into, rather than trying to pull lead along the flightpath which is much harder to adjust. This works particularly well with high rate of fire weapons.

I think what makes this so much more fun to play is the really good turret rotation speed of 56.4 on expert vs the Ostwind II meager 32.9

This actually had a prototype. It existed, or atleast a full scale wooden mockup.
The Ostwind II has no proof of ever leaving paper and quite possibly came from after the war, and even if it did come from Germany, the one in game is 100% made up by gaijin as the game has a different turret and the gun configuration is wrong.
you should have used M.Gr.18 to shoot down planes it has more tnt and velocity than Spgr.18 used in mixed belts

Tbh I would like gaijin to introduce vehicles that at least had mockups built, especially for underrepresented vehicles types like SPAAs. It wouldn’t help the fundamental problems with SPAA but having more of them that better fit the power scale of your lineup instead of massively uptiering one just to have it (like France) would definitely have some positive effect. If they make them premiums then that would defeat the purpose though.

I've said this before, but I really enjoy your style of editing.
Taking down planes with AA really needs a points buff. Regularly bagging 10-15 planes in a match, and having less points than someone with 1 ground kill and 1 assist is just painful.
Imagine an april fools event where all the removed vehicles are re-added for only a specific game-mode then after that locked again forever.

If you're up to it, some other SPAA video would be cool. Some dual purpose vehicles in mid tiers, something like Phong Khong, SUB I-II, ZSU 57 etc. Very nice to see burning planes and shredded tanks

There is a function in the game called "turret inertia" and it is most noticeable on turrets with fast traverse speeds but are *relatively* heavy.
Please play the Kpz-70. Even though the dart was nerfed, the thing is insanely mobile with an autoloader, so if you play as a light tank and do flanks you slap the enemy

the zerstörer 45 did not have a mockup or development drawing to my knowledge, also as a flakpanzer 4 variant it would most likely receive a 3cm flakvierling in a wirbelwind type turret, not the möbelwagen skirts
I think the reason germany lose that much ( as a german gb player myself ) is because we kinda stop playing the objective since The chances of actually capping are very low because of the lack of support
So at the end you end up worrying more about getting kills and rp than to wining because we assume the game is already lost

@@nercksrule exactly , eventually you get tired of getting your ass whooped by the enemy , the cost benefit is not worth it under those odds ,most times i found myself outnumber and outplayed just trying to get to the objective.

I can never seem to find anyone who remembers it but there was a time where the coelian had an HVAP belt that had the same pen values as the HVAP belt on the G model Stukas, that pen being around 100mm last i looked, and that made the coelian terrifying to literally everything around for like a month before they removed the belt, gave the 37mms a nerf and then a while later just flat removed the Coelian from the Tech tree

I can never aim the 37mm guns, the fire rate and low velocity remind me of the Duster or M19. Maybe I'm just stuck on the ease of using 20mm guns but that being said can you play the early M4A2? It's one of the highlights of low tier

The 37 mm guns on the ostwind and this panther are probably some of the most powerful anti air cannons in the game to me, it doesn't matter how big the target if i get a single shot on it always feels like a one hit kill

The 341 project had its own guns (not in the game) with a much more respectable 1050m/s velocity even for the APHE, no APCR needed tbh

@@tomppeli. Not that much documentation survived the war in addition to it being a one-off prototype that was also cancelled. It's kind of a shame considering the design showed great potential as it only had some smaller issues in testing.
Challenge for Spookston after ruining someones' nuke:

They corrected (nerfed) the armament for the German anti air a while back - I recall even the Wirbelwind used to have 64mm of pen which made it fun even as a regular vehicle but now with the reduced pen its only really good for anti-air

FYI German 37mm autocannons do have one tiny area on the side of T-34s where they can pen - right to the left of the the front large wheel if the T-34 is driving left to right like in the Test Drive.
It only works (or worked, it's been a while since the Sd Kfz 6/2 was high enough BR to meet T-34s) when the T-34 is perfectly side-on.

6:54, theres dual versions of that mount on the Des Moines, Newport News, and Pittsborough. The naval ones have longer barrels though I am pretty sure, either way I'd LOVE to see that thing in ground. Had no idea they put that on a tank.
Ehh you're 1 mm off there bud to which iirc that automatic artillery piece had a different designation then the 3"/50 Mk.22 cannons (Mount Mk.33/34/27) found on the three CA's you've mentioned + the the crap tonne of Destroyer Escorts, three Destroyers & one gunboat.
Although they're terrible cannons in NF especially on the Destroyers & Destroyer Escorts as their main armament & the ammunition costs for them (Ohh boy here I go spending 6700 sl for 900 useless shells)...

FYI the upgraded HE rounds have much higher muzzle velocity and explosive filler and would be a much better choice for shooting planes. There's no reload time so there's no advantage to using the default belts.
Actually SPAA can be very rewarding if you hold down in a spot with decent cover (especially with open topped). Much like you nicely showed on that Sinai match

Historically, the Kugelblitz was armed with the low velocity 3cmMK108. FlaKPanther Coelien was intended (I believe) for a tank friendly version of the 3.7cmFlaK43, a high velocity weapon. Thus, Coelien had the larger "AA unbrella".

The upgraded he has higher velocity, use that for planes don’t use the default mixed. Use the full ap for tanks. I think other people have told you this though, but that’s been my default use for this, served me well in rb and winning a few seasons of squadron battles
One of my biggest regrets in WT is that I did not get the Coelian. I got screwed over when it traded places in the tech tree with the Kugelblitz. I was currently researching the Kugelblitz when the switch happened so the Coelian just got skipped and I just never went back to research the Coelian because I didn't need to for progression in the tech tree. Had I known they'd remove it I would have gone back and researced it. Oh well, at least I have the Maus.

1:56 I found that when I use spaa I scroll the mouse wheel so that the distance is at 1000 meters at air targets. I get more hits that way.

@Spookston just a tip: The M.Gr.18 has really fast shells with much more explosives so it's really worth using to kill planes.
A little info on coeliac ammo. Always go with air and ground belts never with mixed. The mixed belt is worse because the HEI round is 300m/so or so slower than in the pure HEI belt.
I actually love this thing, one of my favorite AA's, decent RoF, deadly damage, great armor for an AA (I've literally bounced cold war rounds on that slope at good angles) the no reload infinite firing and instant ammo switch at such a low BR is really nice.
It's a shame it lost nearly half its pen though, struggles to kill anything frontally or even from the side that isn't a no armor vehicle.
It also should have never been removed, replaced with an even more fake tank, meanwhile this at the very least has a confirmed wooden mockup.
