Way back in Summer 1998... David Gates appeared solo at the Cove Haven Resort [Lakeville,PA] accompanied w/ a small string orchestra for one evening. My late wife & I happily sat 2 rows away from the small 300 seat theater's stage. David if you someday read this comment. I just wish to say thanks for making the long trip East for your legion of Bread fans.

I'm very much a fan of David Gates, and always have been, whether it was with Bread or going solo. It wasn't just his performing by any means. He's always had the ability to write pretty songs, whether fast or slow, quiet or loud.
I have one comment about this performance, and by no means is it limited to him.
I've mostly never been able to warm up to medleys. A tiny taste of my favorite songs leading to another has never left me feeling like I got what I was hoping to get. About the time I'm warming up to a song and ready to hear the rest, it's over. Then that cycle repeats.
I'm not totally against the medley concept. If someone sings one complete song blending smoothly into another, I'm good with it.
But, if all they have is 3 minutes total, I think I'd rather hear only one complete song than 4 or 5 snippets.
Again, though, Gates is the best. I've always been a fan of something pretty enough that even if I didn't catch the lyrics, I was moved by the sound playing in the background.
Hey, maybe I'm just an elevator music man at heart. What's wrong with pretty?
