  • Last year, Fender shook the guitar world with the introduction of the ‪@fender‬ American Acoustasonic Telecaster. The funky looking guitar with the recycled name made waves. Many of us didn't know what to expect. The previous plastic backed acoustasonic instruments from Fender had never been something that many people pined to own. This was evidenced by their short life span. However, the new, wood bodied Acoustasonic pair that Fender is now producing is a different instrument. Blending guitar categories and made for the modern, genre shifting musician, the Acoustasonic Telecaster found a home with guitar players wanting something new. The new Fender American Acoustasonic Stratocaster brings this recipe to the beloved Stratocaster body and name plate and adds a few changes. The body and parts are clearly different at first glance but as you focus on the various aspects of the guitar there are more changes. There is a comfortable belly carve, the knobs are top hot knobs, the body is a bit different and of course the modeled sounds are new. Some of the best tones from the Acoustasonic Telecaster have carried over. There are new ones as well and the whole order of things is changed to work within the access you have when changing settings. The electric side of the guitar is expanded upon as well. All of these little changes add up to make this guitar more suited to a particular style of player. Watch as we breakdown each guitar to help you determine if the new Acoustasonic Stratocaster is the better option. Make sure you watch until the end. ;)

I prefer the tele from all demos I have watched, at least when it comes to the acoustic voices. I tend to hear a little more "boxiness" from the strat. A low midrange, hollow ambience that does not sound like a quality acoustic guitar. And I am listening to demos on my Blue Sky studio monitor system, not my phone by the way.

Great demo guys! Full disclosure. I own a natural acoustasonic Tele and I love it. From a purely aesthetic POV, I think the tele body lends itself better for this hybrid. It just looks better - like a perfect blend of acoustic and electric bodies. I wouldn't kick the strat out but I prefer the tele. Fender did a great job. I love this direction. I got a Fisher loudbox mini and it is a dream paired with that guitar. Thanks for comparing.

I had the 2010 model of the Telecaster Acoustasonic (the solid body), and the Fishman Aura sounds (1-4) were excellent. The Twisted Tele pickup was great alone, or blended in, and I love that it had a master volume ... BUT - (there's always a but) this new Acoustasonic Tele has so much more resonance than the solid body. The solid body was a bit top heavy, where the hollow body is very well balanced. I prefer the matte finish to gloss, too. I haven't touched the Strat yet, but from all demos I prefer the Tele about 6-4 (I gave each sound a point) As an acoustic player, I prefer the Tele. If I was doing more electric work, I might be swayed, but so far I believe I've made the right choice. Excellent demo - helped alot!

It works great with a modeler system (ie Helix, Rush, or even Boss etc) My problem is the weight of the PRS is getting to my shoulder even with a wide padded strap. Excluding 12 string songs, I could use this Strat for about 65% of our songs in a four hour gig. The remainder would be on my electric Start. I would be willing to carry a third guitar (12 sring acc, Start, and acc Start) for the sounds of the Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster. I always wonder what guiatr I am going to buy next. The noodling with fingers didn’t really present a contrast for how they would each perform in a live performance.

Both, tele and strat, are digital. Because of this I prefer Taylor T5 and Godin Spectrum. This to instruments are all analogic. No digital process

About 4 lbs. They are really light. My PRS custom 24 with piezio is getting to be a pain in my shoulder...

They are both really cool compared to older designs but putting the body wave hole directly under the strings just defeats the whole purpose of the design. The holes belong on the sides. I should know. I've been building correct guitars for pro musicians for twenty years. I don't care who builds them, gets the credit for the innovation or gets all that cheddar. I'm old and don't want to build anymore but they won't leave me alone so I just keep crankinging them out a couple a year for obseen amounts of money. Still Fender is so close I gotta give them props. Nice.

When comparing the T5 and the acoustasonic its worth noting that the two guitars were designed by the same person AFAIK

I much prefer the Tele body - it is more subtle. The oversized Strat body does not appeal. Looks a bit silly esp in the red. Overall I love the concept of these guitars - I fine constant guitar changes tiresome for me and our audience, so I will investigate further. Colors are a bit naff. I like the black. Shame there is not a blue in the Tele. The green one looks like they havent finished the paint job. Thanks guys. Tele for me

You should tell your subscribers about the show Scar-my-guitar. It is like Pimp my ride but for guitars... They could win a free guitar or upgrade to a hand made custom

For the Strat in Position 2B, you demo’d “Fender Electric Clean” instead of “Blended Electric and Acoustic” as done with the Tele for Position 2B. For the Tele, “Fender Electric Clean” was Position 1A. Then, for the Strat in Position 1B, you demo’d “Fender Electric Dirty”, which was not demo’d for the Tele. Why? Does the Tele not do a “Fender Electric Dirty”?
