One of the most popular reasons that people buy their first network-attached storage (NAS) is the ease and versatility of setting up a cheap and fully featured Network Video Recorder (NVR). Almost all modern NAS feature surveillance support to a greater or lesser degree, whether it is a proprietary application like Surveillance Station or QVR Pro, or the NAS can support 3rd party applications like milestone surveillance. However the NAS server is only part of the ideal surveillance network setup and in order to capture your recordings, you will need network supported cameras, known as IP Cameras. There are hundreds of brands out there that will try to sell you their IP cameras, but only a small % are actually compatible with NAS systems, as it requires the camera to be used and controlled by the NAS software.

The short cable is for the initial set-up of the camera account and IP address on the bench, before you deploy it up on the building 200ft away.
Generally you wouldn't want a long RJ45 cable going from your switch to the camera. You generally want a female port. That way you just plug that short cable into the longer run and if it breaks you only need to replace the short cable.
Good review, thanks for covering this from the vandal-proof viewpoint, pretty important aspect of set-and-forget home security. Installing these properly also negates the need for a home security system with paid installation & monthly subscription, so it should pay itself off after a short while. POE also provides an opportunity to simply swap the cameras again after 5-10 years when they fail with little fuss, you mentioned that flexibility too, all good points.

Nice thing about POE on a decent setup, like with a decent router which has a failover 4G/5G internal or external adapter in conjunction with a decent POE switch is that you can whack a UPS on your switch which supplies your cameras and your cameras will still record if you have a power outage, or better still if you stick your UPS on your Router and POE switch and your router has a failover mobile connection and your power goes out you can still effectively receive notifications on your phone even if you have a total power outage. Plus Reolink has just launched a POE door bell to add to that too, so what's not to like?

Hi. I've recently installed 3 842A cameras for a customer. All went well on the day. Since then, I've had calls from the customer one of the cameras has crap night vision and all 3 have problems when viewing video files in playback and on the memory card. Are you a tech guy for advise, or can you point me in the right direction. Thanks

tbh man, this video (and about 4 others were JUST after got the Covid all clear. I WAS damn tired!
@@nascompares Allot of peeps suffer from tiredness for weeks or even months after having COVID.
It might be worth having a look in to POST COVID fatigue and tiredness information and see if you can manage your fatigue through your food intake, eating the right foods, vitamins and minerals suitable for you. It might give you the boost you likely need.
Their is definitely information out there with regards to that, even on CZcams amongst all the other COVID spam.
