Seems a good review for a look around the software to that'll be helpful for some people, but what about assessing camera image quality or night vision?

What is the workflow where you require optical zoom and 2 way audio at same time? I'd imagine a camera that needs optical zoom is far away and thus 2 way audio will not really be applicable

No near and distant audio test? That's the only thing I came to check.

i think it would be a great idea if you could show how it setup a home network in the uk using a BT hub, with a NAS, Cameras etc

I've shown/published lots of surveillance setup guides here on the channel, it would be tough to go into specifics with ISP routers exactly though, as that would introduce thousands of variables. I would recommend checking out my surveillance setup guides, as they are quite broad

The RLC-833A is an improved 822A with 2way audio and better LEDs. Can't wait for you to get a CX410! 🎉👍

Hey RJ!! I'll hit up reolink and see if this a possible. Had this little guy operating now for 3 months and fairplay to it, it's been absolutely spot on, with the recognition being particularly good during building works nearby (person detection and those AoE lines). Tbh I need to do a follow up on their solar products soon, as going cable free on CCTV is becoming the desired option more and more.

If a noob was to use this, or a similar camera, connected to a Synology NAS, would it be a requirement to use the Reolink software, or could the Synology Surveillance Station software be used instead?

I have 5 Reolink cameras and a Synology NAS as well as a QNAP NAS. I use the Reolink app and it works surprisingly well. You need to setup FTP on your NAS to get the cameras to save the pics and video. If you don't use ftp much it can be a bit of a challenge but is well worth the time. From my NAS, I use the Cloudsync app to upload just the jpg's ( not the video ) to my Google drive account when I'm away from home. The whole system works very well. I have tried both the Synology and the QNAP Surveillance apps and find that they are far to complex for the average home use. Especially when the Reolink Windows desktop app works so well. Be sure to make sure to set IP address reservations in your router and / or static IP addresses on each camera to match the router.

      Surveillance Station supports it.
The bigger issue for a "noob" is that this requires Power over Ethernet (POE) - that is the Ethernet cable provides the power as well as the networking. That in turn requires a POE capable switch. If you plug it into a average consumer 8 port switch then it wont have POE and the camera wont get any power.

Reolink software for the initial camera set-up, then Synology Surveillance Station set-up recording. But you could use either the Reolink or Synology mobile phone app.

@@whya2ndaccount When I say "noob", I mean more that I'm a noob to using a NAS (i.e. I dont have one yet, and am gathering info on what would be best for my needs, etc).
I have my house wired up with Cat6 cabling and am planning on having POE to each camera (current stop gap is Ring cameras, but needing to charge the batteries is a ballache! lol)

being able to twist and take the camera is a deal breaker

Please don’t call this a good quality cable 😭

Sorry man...but...it is. I've seen some really tatty/thin/poorly flexible ones in the past and, for a PoE outdoor camera, that is something that is worth highlighting
