  • Lesa Terry is a violinist, arranger, educator and composer. She frequently performs around the Los Angeles area and beyond and is a professor in Santa Monica College's music department. Here, she discusses the Uptown String Quartet, which formed in the 1980's and received significant support from Max Roach. The group may have been the first string quartet made up entirely of Black women.
