    Hey guys - just wanted to let you know that yes, I'm aware the dirt was a joke. Tyler himself messaged me when he saw the video and explained that he made a joke listing on ebay and sent the bidder an albo cutting.

    • @bluebear74
      @bluebear74 Před 4 lety +31

      Kaylee Ellen I thought it was a case of trying to trick someone not reading the listing properly. Dad made this mistake once and ended up with the MANUAL of the thing he wanted. This person was literally selling the printed manuals that are available free on the parts website. Of course they refused to refund us. Lesson learned for dad.

    I stupidly purchased “variegated monstera” seeds on eBay a year or two ago. It was a deal offering 50 seeds for about 3$. Thinking that I’d have more successful growth with more seeds, I thought it was fitting to plant them ALL. Months later I had something growing, wasn’t a monstera though. It looked more like grass so I decided to research different seeds to see what the hell I was growing and it turns out they were yucca seeds- and I planted all 50 🤦🏽‍♀️So in about 20 years I guess I’ll just have 50 full grown yucca trees in my home 😂 thanks a lot eBay

People are selling stolen,poached and just bad plants online and charging a HUGE amount because if the name or title of the plant. For example this guy was selling ariocarpus on eBay in huge poached amount but the sad thing was you can tell they were just ripped from the ground (15-20 year old plants) beacausr they have a mane tap root and roots that grow off that tap root and they were just stripped and it was a half broken tap root just so wrong and sad.

    I ordered variegated monstera seeds several times. It became entertaining. The first seeds I got were Chia seeds. The next ones looked like mustard seeds. I knew they were not Monstera because I actually did order Monstera Deliciosa seeds from someone in South Carolina, which actually DID grow into Monstera plants. None of the seeds I got as variegated monstera seeds were monstera seeds at all.

      I have multiples of both the Thai and Albo (I’m a seller and importer) and the tissue culture Thai is far less fussy making it ideal for first time growers. It can be grown like any other house plant and grows very fast since they typically have more chlorophyll. I’ve also got quite a few Thais that have the prettiest half white leaves - solid white on one side and variegated on the other. I do prefer my huge albo to any other plant tho!

    I ordered Monstera Seeds on ebay from a guy who had a very good rating. It wasn't Variegated seeds because I knew that that doesn't exist. I just thought it would be nice to see a Monstera Baby grow. The seeds didn't look right to me but I thought that maybe it was a different type of Monstera. The seller had a good rating so I didn't think too much of it.
    Actually I was a bit excited to see what kind of Monstera or maybe Philodendron I'll have. I planted them and they germinated very fast. And looked like grass. But the seeds didn't look like grass seeds. I was confused and after some LONG research I found out that I now had Sugar Cane plants. They looked nice... And you can eat them... I'll order Sugar Cane seeds again some day.

    I dont really understand why people are jumping on the hype to begin with. Yes, variegated monsteras are beautiful, hell, I'd take one in a heartbeat. However, I wouldn't ever dish out that much money on a cutting. You see, the thing with hyped plants everyone wants is that also everyone is going to grow them, wanting to cash in on the trend. The market will be flooded with them in no time (well, as long as it takes commercial growers to get them ready), after all, we're not talking about a species that is especially difficult to grow or take care of. As "exotic" they may seem now, they are a perfectly easy plant, even for beginners, which makes them even more valuable for plantshops. It's fair bet that we'll see tons of those plants everywhere pretty soon and with a much, much smaller price tag. Why not just wait a bit? And thank the people who created and financed the hype, without it, we wouldn't see them coming into shops after all.

    I do think part of the responsibility lies with the buyer. If you are going to spend that much money on a plant you need to make sure you know enough about the plant to care for it. That includes how it grows, which will tell you something about how to take proper cuttings. Doing your research is important. Plus, the only reason why these sellers are doing this is because it works. If people did their research, these sellers wouldn't be making money and they'd stop doing it and move into the next scam.
