I was blessed to be a child from 10 on listening to this music and loving. I now remember words to things I listened to with my parents and their friends and kids. Such a fun age and time. I am truly blessed with the best parents but I learned with them. They are amazing people in every sense of giving kind fun constant presence. I learned but didn’t appreciate or realize until later.

An old friend invited us over to his apartment during a junior high school skip day during the early 80's ( '81) and played this guitar sequence for us. He was highly talented musically but tortured too and succumbed to drugs shortly afterwards. He was a kind soul and everyone cheered for his future success in music, life but unfortunately, we all have our demons! This song reminds me of the fleeting innocence of our youth, the kindness of most people then, and great music allows us to revisit these memories with mixed emotions. R.I P. Doug!

I heard this haunting epic when I was 12 and ELP didn't make sense to me. When I was younger I heard "lucky man" and didn't understand it. Once I was 14 or 15 it started to make sense. This was the song I appreciated the most. Share these feelings and senses you have with people. They will be quite surprised by the musicianship and the meaning.
