This has to be one of the most interesting interviews you done. You always ask such great questions for your guests that help your viewers to get to know who they are and how they come to create their quilts. Who would think to create a quilt that looks like a map? If a quilt show needs a commentator, you should be the one. While watching this I imagined the room I was sitting in at the time as a quilt!! That was a fun mind pic. Love the quilt of your dog. I’ve become so used to watching your videos I look for one everyday when I get home from work.

It’s such a relief to know that other quilters, especially ones of Karen’s and Valerie’s stature, that have such strong positive and negative feelings during the course of working on a piece. I feel like I’m in good company now. I absolutely love starting projects and have many going at any one time. I also feel hugely inspired when I finish a project.

Oh I have to speak to Valerie on one point: regarding has she passed her love of quilts on to family? Sometimes these things skip a generation, or get found late in life. I myself have been around my grandmother, and great grandmother's quilts all my life, and now I am 68 I am starting my first quilt. Both died decades ago, so they never knew, which is my only regret. And if you don't mind me saying it - your work is definitely inspirational to me, so some of your love of quilts has passed on to sisters unknown, by other mothers. It's what artists do, they inspire people.
    PS
Are you or have you ever been a professional interviewer? That is a very difficult thing to do - and you did it wonderfully. Focused on her and what she could share with all of us that was inspiration - WOW. Thank you Karen!

Wow❗ The caliber of quilt legends your interviewing is mind blowing. First Susan Shie, now Valerie Goodwin. I almost fell off the couch.
I remember the first time I saw one of her quilts in a magazine I was mesmerized. I tore out the page and pinned it on my design wall. I could not figure out how she did it. With each new quilt I became more enthralled. And finally she published a book. What a treasure. I've admired her work from the start. It would be an honor to take a class with her or see an exhibit in person.

It is 5 miles by 2 miles wide so I'm not sure the trueness of the scale I will use but I'd like to show his street, house and favorite spots. It will be quite the step outside of my comfort zone but it is something I plan to try.

Fabulous interview with an inspiring quilter. I love non-traditional quilters and your questions were insightful. Any chance you will interview Bisa Butler?

I enjoyed the discussion of Art and Architecture and the ways of using
fabric as another way of both- even separate. she can use Quilting as a traditional blocks or using free expressions with maps and drawing-
I loved it and want her journey and it will be my collage as well

I'm in a "hot mess moment" right now! My reverse applique is something of a Frankenstein's monster. But I'll keep going! Fascinating stuff, quilting is truly an art form that stretches you intellectually as well as creatively

I can identify with your guess. I was an architecture student until I had to give it up so to family reasons and in would love to have te time to go back to it and turn it completely into my quilt. Love the interview
