Hey Shirvan, thank you for another enlightening video.
A small suggestion for future videos: It can often be somewhat difficult to keep up with foreign names (individuals, groups, or places), so I think it would help immensely if names appeared on screen when subjects are introduced. I know when captions are ready for the video that this is no longer a problem, but I think it would just be very helpful to see the words on the screen, for ease of further research and memory retention. Keep up the phenomenal work!

@Δημήτρης Ντάβος worry not. The chances of Egypt directly intervening in Libya are very slim. The economy cannot afford a war and the army certainly learned it's lesson from intervening in Yemen decades back under Nasser. The massing of forces on the border and the military exercises are only a show of force. The losses from intervening would be many times greater than the benefits. Plus, the armed forces have much greater threats to deal with, such as the Ethiopian dam or the insurgency in Sinai that's been going on for years.

Thank you for this good video summarizing many aspects of the history of the MB and in line with the quality content you always offer us. I have following remarks on the content that I share below:
    1. I think that the influence of Jamal Din Al Afghani on the early development of the MB has been overpresented. It is true that he contributed to the rise of Pan-Islamism (also due to his origin and the fact that he was mostly active in far-away Egypt but still his work was resonating with the people), but he is still ideologically quite different (more liberal) from the MB who received ideological influence also from Rashid Rida and also far influence from the Wahhabist movement of the 18th century (and this movement was not a reaction to European expansion in the region).
    2. There should have been more emphasis on the effect of the abolition of the Caliphate by Atatürk in 1924 on the founding of the MB. That was the last drop that filled the cup and made Al-Banna and his sympathizers feel an urgent need to step in and make an attempt for a Islamic-inspired leadership to fill the void created by the lack of a Caliphate (and the failed attempt by Sharif Hussein to claim the title for himself due to the humiliation he suffered after the betrayal of the British + his military defeat against the Saudis that prompted the loss of Hejaz including the Holy Cities and all his argument for becoming a Caliph).
    3. A key moment of the MB-Nasser conflict was the arrest and execution in 1965 of the highly-influencial philosopher and political theorist Sayyid Qutub whose books are still quoted today by different reactionary forces today. This contributed to the aura of the MB and different Islamist organizations that have no trouble to cast themselves as living martyrs among a considerable part of the people. This execution should have been included in that video.
    4. The socio-economic conditions of Egyptians and the quasi-monopoly of the economy by the European elite were a factor in the rise of the MB but neither the only nor the main one (other factors are mentioned above) as those conditions were most important for the secular nationalists (like Mustafa Kamil, Saad Zaghloul and the nationalist branch of the Wafd Party) who used it to trigger insurrections like in 1906 after the Denshwai Affair or in the 1919 Revolt that paved the way for the abolition of the 1914 protectorate (effective starting 1922).

You had it mentioned in the video that one part of Muslim brotherhood that wanted to continue violent fight and overthrow government went its own way and crated Hamas. And seeing how Hamas currently rules Gaza it’s pretty understandable why would Egypt cooperated rather with Israel with whom they signed peace treaty, under which Israel returned Sinai peninsula to Egypt, and which grants both Israel and Egypt yearly aid money from US to buy military equipment which had sweeten the deal, rather than with Hamas that would rather overthrow them.
      .
In case of Jordan, Palestinians tried to overthrow government there, so once again, that government will rather cooperate with Israel than with them.
      .
In terms of Lebanon. Palestinians tried to overthrow government there and to this point Hezbollah rules over half of country, so it’s not like they are seen in good light there either. And to be honest there are dozen other groups that hate each other regardless of this, so they will rather go to civil war than to go fight somewhere outside for Palestinian cause.
      .
Syria is last the last on Israel enemy train. And they are in civil war.
      .
And then there is underlying cold war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. And since Iran funds all militias that go against Saudi interest, and Saudis fund militias that go against Iran’s interest, and Israel is currently in conflict with Iran too. It’s seems like pretty straight forward enemy of my enemy and all that jazz.

@@stafer3 Good summary, it's seems, and is very complicated and I think Egypt just doesn't want to get involved and introduce even more instability into the region. Also the last time all the Arab countries combined to try to go against Israel it didn't end up too well for them. If the border was opened to the Gaza Strip and weapons were found to be smuggled in it would provide Israel a reason for retaliation and so Egypt is happy to leave the border closed. It would be nice the think that eventually there could be a Palestinian state with open borders to surrounding countries, but that isn't ever going to happen whilst Hamas are in charge, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The Arab split into two forces then: the first wanting to change arabic culture to adapt to the west, the others wanting to return to the "core" of islam to resist to the west while making some adaptations. All arabic political parties can be understood through their position in this spectrum.

The statement that the Muslim brotherhood were "collaborators" in the 1952 Coup/revolution is simply incorrect. The coup was started independently by the free officers movement. While there were some brotherhood sympathizers among them, most notably Mohamed Naguib, the actual brotherhood were not an integral part of the overthrow, just another organization who wanted to get rid of the current regime.

Useful video to outline the major features of the MB, albeit it's important to remember that the army officer who perpetrated the assassination of Anwar Sadat, Khalid al-Islambuli, didn't belong to the brotherhood. He was affiliated to the so-called "Egyptian Islamic Jihad" ("Tanzim al-Jihad") extremist group which wasn't part of the MB galaxy of affiliated groups.
As disclosed by none other than the current leader of al-'Qaida, Ayman al-Zawahiri, (in the book of al-Zayat, Montasser, "The Road to al-Qaeda", 2002) " [the EIJ] is different from the Takfir wal Hijra group (the extremist offshoot of the MB, formally detached from the MB) as we do not consider people infidels because of their sins. And we are different from the Muslim Brotherhood because sometimes they do not oppose the government".

I didn't learn anything about the Muslim Brotherhood from this video, except that they used violence only for self defense! I am not too sure about that. @@drunkensailor3736 The reason why there was a south and north yemen was because there was a socialist movement in yemen that ORIGINATED in the south, they planned to take the entirety of yemen but because the more north you go, the more difficult it is to fight in the mountains, so the south socialist yemen just decided to not bother and make claim to the land they have and leave the rest to the republic of yemen, which was dubbed the north. Now, the north was still somewhat "backwards" and very tribal and highly conservative religiously, as opposed to the very secular and open and "progressive" south, thanks to the british occupation and socialist government. Alcohol was sold openly and there was a brewery in Aden producing local alcohol that matched the standard of american or european ones, it was the only brewery in the arabian peninsula. people went to work or school mixed with males and females, females very rarely wore the hijab let alone the full abaya, it was even totally ok to wear skirts and wear bikinis on the beach. People could produce music or shows/movies or radio shows as they please and talk about whatever they wanted. Even ghat/gat, the plant drug thats plagueing yemen right now, was VERY limited, you were only allowed to chew it on non-work days, which was thursday and friday. It was basically like any other "normal" country. But after the unification, immense pressure from its northern neighbor to change their southern ways became too much, and the north being allied with the wahhabist saudi's made the south so wary. that were was even an open revolt that happened after the unification but was crushed. Genders were segregated, drinking, selling, producing alcohol was illegal, every female is pressured to wear the full abaya, residental buildings and any other buildings were neglected but in every street mosques were built even tho the country had no money and the houses/buildings were getting worse and worse. Even afterwards, multiple huge protests happened in the south but nothing came of it. Then the arab spring happened, then the houthis came, yemen again fell into a civil war and the south movement gained some momentum that there might be a chance for it to rise again and claim independence just like before.

Hi, thank you for the high quality of your videos, there were some small mistakes in the informations given here, which is understandable, however the assassination of Anwar al-Sadat was executed by independent members which are ideologically more influenced by al-Jama'a al-Islamyya and not by the brotherhood, also the relationship between the government and the brotherhood in the 1970s-2000s was not as simple as it sounded in the video, and I don't think that the brotherhood can be described as mere governmental tool, which it uses to ged rid of its opponents. thank you again and if you are more interested in this subject Fawar Gerges's book the Making of the Arab World is a really a good source about the complex relationship between the government and the brotherhood in the last century.

Salafism/Wahabism was there long before the Europeans came.

Salafism is as old as medieval times, what you call whabism is an old concept called Islamic revival. Mohammed bin Abdualwahhab like many Muslim scholars in his times have intercepted that the Europeans might invade sooner or later and saw that the only way to prepare is to unite and reform society.

@@mohammedalsuwailem9628 That's not true. Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhab was against some form of sufi practices such as intercessions with the grave. He consider that shirk. Of course that's not new,. Also he wasn't aware thet European powers would come, although he dislikes the Ottoman power very much. I think the word salafism or wahhabism is stupid because those ideas existed long before.

@@oghuzdynasty777 Abdual Wahab married within the Saudi family and together one being king of politics the other king of religion were used by the britsh to destory the Hashemite family ruling Hejaz. The cancer of Islamic world today is Salafi/wahabism. They are the reason why the world today view us as terrorists.
