If you watched the first video I made on this truck you will know that I had an issue with the throttle body. When I would let off the gas, the RPM's would drop so low that the truck would die on me. After doing some research and talking around I had an idea that it was either a dirty throttle body, bad/dirty idle air control valve or possibly both. I went ahead and ordered a new IAC because it was so cheap and replaced it along with cleaning my throttle body. The truck runs great now.

My 98 Dakota is in the shop right now having this same exact part replaced. (Dec. 10, 2020). I should be getting her back later today. Tomorrow, 23 years ago, my husband bought this truck for me for my birthday. Best birthday present I ever got! My husband passed away 2 years ago so my Dakota means even more to me now.

Good instructional video. You did good, clarifying the TPS linkage - how that is positioned. Another video left that in the dark. Good general comment on wiring - tight harness runs are prone to the damage you touched on, and positioning plugs and the like to relieve strain is good general practice.
    Thank you.

This was a great video. I just put a spacer on my 01 ram 360 mag. This truck I have brought back to life literally. I know it very well for a shade tree mech. During the spacer install I noticed while on my prep stage of the manifold surface looking inside there was some burnt and newer wet looking oil down there. This indicates the plenum gasket on the bottom side of the manifold is letting oil suck up there. My hughes kit that i ordered just arrived today. I will update on how that went if anyone is reading. Also to note, my truck runs very well even with this issue, like a sewing machine. I had noticed some oil consumption but it doesn't leak a drop of any fluid. Also note. Mopar PCV is the best for these trucks.

It's probably the plenum gasket on the under side of the intake manifold. Pull the PCV hose off the throttle body and plug off while the engine is running. And check to see if there is vacuum on the crankcase hose on the other side. If there is vacuum you have a blown plenum gasket. Look for Matt Payne CZcams for repair. Excellent series. I'm changing mine now! Also check for all vacuum leaks!

I had to clean the throttle body to my 2000 dodge as well and it looked as dirty. My idle issues included the vacuum line going in next to the MAP sensor. It was plastic with a 2 inch length hose at the tip. Next vacuum line replaced was the one from PCV valve to manifold. After so long it became loose and spongy and my dad never put the ring clamp back on. Didn't need to replace the IAC but after a good cleaning and replacing the hoses and gasket my idle went from a high 1300 RPM to a quieter 900.
