- Here is a DIY project any BBQer can appreciate. Simple, easy and cheap. Make these fire starter blocks for pennies. In this video I use household paraffin wax, but this is also an excellent way to recycle old used candles!

Cool Grumpus!
Thanks Johnny. You know what they say about “idle hands…” 😉
👍👍
Thanks Billy!

Thanks Alton. Wishing you and Jeanne a Happy New Year!!! Cheers… 🍹🥃🍻!
Hey Brutha good DIY
Thanks William!
Nice cook Grumpus but I was waiting for the slice and juicy squeeze at the end. : ) Tips like this are great, thanks for sharing brother.
LOL, Now that’s funny right there… Thanks for watching KB.
Man thanks that was VERY interesting!
Glad you enjoyed it, Dash!
Very cool. Met you at Carol’s live last night.
Thank you Maureen. It was nice meeting and hanging with you and Carol. You have a lot of good stuff on your channel... enjoying it very much. Call me #898! L8R....
Well thank you very much Mr. #898! I really appreciate it!
thats pretty cool Bill, thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mike!
I actually find this awesome. You are one of the reasons I like Texas so much. Really like your videos sir.
Hahaha Adam. What’s the old saying…? “Low n Slow is the devils workshop”... or something like that? 😂😂😂!
Great instructional video....now do one while using them!!! Thank you!
Thanks Robert. I’ve been using these for the last couple of months. I’ll be sure to get it on camera soon.
Flannel shirt? Who is this imposter? 😄 I've seen many paraffin wax fire starters through the years but this might just be the easiest one yet. Well done sir. 👍
Hahaha Victor. I don’t usually let the public see me out of uniform… but it was in the mid-50s that day!
@@GrumpusOnFire tell you the truth, you need to skip the Hawaiian shirt once a year just so we can see if Dash catches it. His reaction to the news during the live was great. It's a good thing he is a big man so there is room for all that inner child he has. His smile was great. This is the first day of 2021 as I type this. Have a very happy new year sir. 😃👍🌞
That's a great idea! I could be like a BBQ Easter egg ya'll could hunt 😂! Here's wishing you a great 2021 as well... 🍸🍹🍸!
Great tip there Grumpus. I never thought of that. Hope you're keeping well. Cheers
Thanks Marky. Doing good here. I’ve been watching your stuff (from work), I’ll go back and leave comments soon… 👍
A little different than what I make but looks like a good idea!
You know what they say Terry... idle hands...
That was an awesome idea! I had no idea you could do this. I’m totally on board! Wish I still had an offset firebox, though😏
Use a nice, soft and absorbent wood and these will work perfectly. You could do this IN your cooker. I think I cook over my firebox more than I do in the smoker.
If this had no context, it looks like you’re cooking some wood blocks 🤪 neat idea, like you said will it save money, probably not but they sure look like they’d come in handy if you don’t have any of those parafilm wax cubes or fire starter cubes. Emergency backups
If you soak these long enough, I find they work just as good, and last longer, than the store bought.
Great how-to vid man. Happy New Year to you and yours, Grumpus!
Same to you!
I really like this idea Grumpus, The wax does not build up or create dirty smoke any longer than normal.
Have you ever tried wood chunks or slices. I would really like to see video were you start using one of the blocks and progression until you put meat on cooker. Your video's are interesting.
Happy New Year
You got it John! Next cook I’ll show these in action starting my fire. 👍
My kids lost some of our jenga pieces so was looking to see if anybody made some fire starters with wood chunks.
That’s some good Fat Wood!
Thanks Chris… LMAO! 😂😂😂
Very timely video bc I was running out of fire starters. U really don’t think it will be cheaper than buying new? Seems like u could cut those in half or even thirds and still work fine for smaller cookers like Webers and kamados. But maybe the full size for an offset.
I agree. Cut those pieces I half and place them under the chimney. I still think this is a visit saver compared to the wax cubes or tombleweeds.
Hey Elliot! Not just a single batch. But, over time these are very cheap to make. I usually make these with smaller cubes. One of my men at work cut these for me, but they still worked great. Also, these can be even cheaper if you melt down old used candles. White pine, fir, hemlock, balsa, any light weight porous wood works great. I’ve used cedar, but it pops like lump charcoal.
What a great idea!! I might have missed it in the video but what temp did you have your grill at to melt the wax? I am going to have to try that this weekend. I have a video showing how to make mine with cotton balls and Vaseline.
Coleman, I had a pork butt in the smoker at the time. I’m not sure how hot the top of the firebox was. It doesn’t take much heat to melt the paraffin. I’ll for sure check out your video.
Nice video
Thanks Al!
