  • I go over the features of the new Surefire Backup MaxVision EDC light, compare the beam pattern with a few other options, conduct some drop tests on concrete, and go over what I think of it overall.

Awesome EDC Flashlight - Great detailed review. Surefire brand is expensive but worth it when you need it. I have used multiple other cheaper and/or imported lights (Fenix, O-Light, Eagle Tac, etc). I carry a couple of different flashlights with me virtually everyday everywhere. A Surefire backup in my pants pocket, and a dual cell G2X Pro or 6PX) in my coat pocket. While I don't typically use them for defense I use them for daily walks at night, around the house and work. In the winter, where I use them a lot I leave them in active mode, while in the summer I will normally leave it in lockout mode to prevent accidental activation. Either way I use them everyday and get 4-8 months out of the batteries! I also have Defenders, older Backups and newer style Backups. I like this body style the most, the new Backup models are just a little bigger, heavier and bulkier (still a great light). The bezel on the regular Backup is more square and bulky, while this is tampered and blends into your pocket better. This has a much better design for comfortable pocket carry and the beam pattern works best in my opinion for general use. A tighter pattern is great for searching outside, however, for use inside or general walking & hiking this beam is perfect. While it is expensive, you won't regret it!!

A good alternative is the Malkoff MDC. Fully potted electronics, LED options, comes in multiple lengths for different battery options and is much less expensive than a Surefire with the same durability. If you're a big spender then step up to a Prometheus Alpha.

  • @fixedfocusmediaofficial

Please be aware that cr123a cells and rcr123a cells are VERY different and are usually NOT interchangeable. The rechargeable version has more voltage and can damage the light in the long run. Some cr123a lights are compatible with rcr123a cells but MOST ARE NOT. If you need a rechargeable option, Surefire makes some rechargeable ones that have a similar voltage to prevent damage.

How's the tint compared to an elzetta alpha?, been slowly switching over to neutral's for all my lights, surefire is generally cool white, they are slow to change for neutral, everybody seems to be playing a chase the lumens/high output game.

  • @jacobmanalang8162
    @jacobmanalang8162 Před 7 lety +1

so you had success running an olight 16340 in this light? i dont have it but i had an older backup and it did not like the olight 16340's or the less powerful tenergy 16340s even at 3.0v so i sold it to a straight up surefire battery user and he loves it through this day.
the fury and so i assume the g2x series as well loves them from my experience. 16650 being the best option. elzetta will also answer your battery questions as well as sell you one of the strongest lights on earth.
i could switch to an alpha today and not trip. if they made a light that supported 14500's eagletac and the four sevens preon would get benched.....high cri game over mayne

  • @fixedfocusmediaofficial

Unfortunately, not all Surefire lights have any potting whatsoever. Not right now anyway. Elzettas modular lights do though. None of my Surefire lights do, not even the high-end ones.

You're incorrect. Surefire lights don't have potted electronics. I really liked my E1B Maxvision but ended up returning it because it started to flicker on high even with new batteries. In addition, there was a significant amount of dust on the inside of the lens and reflector. Unacceptable for a $190 flashlight imho.

400 lumens is not enough for a edc tactical flashlight all my edc tactical flashlights have to have over 900 lumens or more my nitecore mt10a is way better than that surefire backup

in what lumen category must an edc tactical light, above 900? i think it's subjective. others even 300 lumen is enough. well, i don't know if your nitecore can keep up with this torture test. surefire is surefire bro.

Did you not watch the video Perfect explanation on why you would want the backup versus a full throw 900 lumen nothing wrong with 900 lumens in the right setting in the wrong setting a 900 lumens is way way too much

$200? Guaranteed unless i bump into you i will never meet anybody who ever bought one,,,
Edit, seeing as how you have 175k subs they probably give it to you to advertise so i will never meet anybody who bought one at $200

I know 3 people that have and if you read the light forums you'll see hundreds that have. Know anyone that owns a Mercedes? Same thing.

I'm really digging hat pocket clip. I definitely use my flashlight more than any other piece of gear. The one thing I've found over the years is I must have rechargeable. Come home take off gun knife and put the flashlight on charge for the next day.
